Unbroken Promises: an emotional friends to lovers romance Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 857 ratings

From USA Today bestselling author Nikki Ash comes an emotional standalone romance unlike anything you've ever read...

When we were kids, we made all kinds of promises.
We promised to always be best friends.
To always put each other first.
And that no matter what, no one would come between us.
Little did we know that life had its own plans.
We grew up and reality set in.
We realized that not all love lasts forever, and some promises are meant to be broken.
It’s ironic that the promises we made as kids--the ones we thought would hold us together--might just be the very thing that could tear us apart.

Editorial Reviews

Review

While Nikki Ash wrote a story with lots of sizzle and heat, she wrote a far better story of a love between three characters. She changed my mind about this particular story profile. She made me a believer of all things love and all the many packages it's wrapped up in. Never again will I doubt her ability to tell a story-- Emily Goodman, Southern Vixen Book Obsessions

I was unprepared for the magnitude of this experience. Hands down this is the BEST book Nikki Ash has EVER written. MMF reads seem to be all the rage right now but this one is MORE than that and so beautifully unique. It is SO different, it needs its own category.--
Cali Gals Book Blog

Wow! This story became stronger and more emotional with every word I read. I truly loved how between the three of them they created their own love story. To me it doesn't feel like a MFM relationship because it all feels just like it is supposed to be.--
Tracy, Spunky n Sassy Book Blog

This book blew me away. Totally didn't expect what I read. Beautiful writing with a storyline that will make the tears fall fast. This is a story of true love and true companionship. Excellent read.--
Julie, Spunky n Sassy Book Blog

Wow, just wow! Talk about an emotional roller coaster; I haven't both laughed and cried over a book in a long time! Do Not Pass Over this book! Even if MMF isn't your thing, this book has the potential to be a life changer!--

It has been a while since I've read a book that has managed to bring me to tears as much as this book did. Nikki has written a beautiful love story between three best friends. Yes, it is a m/m/f book but please don't let this put you off. It's one of my favorite books I've read this year.--
Katie Montgomery

This book is absolutely brilliant and it had me in floods of tears.--
Sallyann

This story moved me in the most emotional of ways, it rocked my ever-loving world, it made me rethink the way I look at things. Sure it was a love story, sure it was hot as hell, sure it was all those things we demand in a romance novel, but it was also about life's lessons. It was just so much more.--
Tracy

This book deserves a lot more than 5 stars!! If you buy one books for the rest of the year, let this be it!--
Melissa Schaub

Unbroken Promises was a true beauty for ashes novel. Through highs and lows, love and loss, forever-love won.--

This book blew me away. Beautiful writing with a storyline that will make the tears fall fast. This is a story of true love and true companionship. Excellent read.--

This book was so hot. But in ways it was also so heartbreakingly beautiful too. This actually is probably my top read by this author by far!--
Melanie Helms

Unbroken Promises by Nikki Ash is an absolutely amazing story.--
BCD Book Review

This book is EVERYTHING! You are going to feel EVERYTHING!--
Sally Mieske

Nikki Ash has created a beautiful story of friendship, loss, forgiveness and ultimately love. This is definitely Nikki Ash's best story yet.--
Nicole Erard

This book! Oh. My. God! I've never read anything like this! This might be the best book I've read this year!--
Christine, Just Love my Books Blog

I can't think of a good reason not to give this story a try. The characters will enrapture you. The story will kidnap you. You'll never be the same after reading and you'll want more and more even after the last page.--

Friendship built through childhood adversity, becomes a love that will last their lifetimes.
How is it that you can absolutely love a book that broke your heart? That had you ugly sobbing, reaching for tissues as you just wanted to reach in and comfort the characters as much as you wanted the comfort for yourself. Well, Nikki Ash did, and I was. She broke my heart, I loved the book, and I sobbed. Then I was comforted, and I felt so much love for the characters, and still so much love for the book. Unbroken Promises, what a winning formula Nikki Ash has put together between these pages. You will see it labelled as MFM/MF and MM, but, do not mistake this for erotica in any form. Yes it’s H O T, *fanning myself, seriously*, but, there are emotions on so many levels. Emotions literally soak the virtual pages of this book! This is an amazing story of Cole, Delilah and Xander. They became the very best of friends at 12, and have stuck pretty much together since then, and I hesitate to talk too much about the plot for fear of giving away spoilers, but, I can tell you what I loved about it, and say that these three characters are nothing short of beautiful in their own right. Xander and Cole came to be foster brothers after tragic childhood circumstances, and live locally to Delilah. She’s living through a sombre and challenging childhood of her own, something neither a child nor their parents should ever have to deal with, and the two boys become the stalwarts of support that she needs them to be. I especially loved Cole and his heavy sense of accepting fate and that things happen for a reason, that sometimes there are sh!t things happening in life that could still lead to a promise of something better. He is really an optimist. Trouble is, he also continually looks back to a childhood promise he made, and almost risks their entire futures when he can’t seem to move forward. So many times we read of parents who will stop at nothing to control their children. Not so Delilah’s parents, John and Joanne. They are the heroes in this book. Their unconditional love is beautiful, inspiring, and amazing. There was so much adversity facing them as parents in this book, and they shone like stars. I loved them. I did receive an early copy of this book, but, I loved it so much that I had to buy my own. I don’t believe that I can write words well enough to convince readers that Unbroken Promises is a story that is anabsolute MUST-READ. It’s quite a big read, and deserves every one of it’s 5 Stars. Seriously.

All I have to say is this book was binge worthy, sad, and so much love. It didn't turn out like would have suggested but ended out nicely anyway. To all those who have suffered with or know someone who has had to suffer through cancer my heart is with you and them. My father inlaw passed from cancer 2 years ago in June. We miss him dearly everyday.

P.S. I cried hard at this book!

This book was not what I expected. Not at all. It’s Nikki Ash, so it’s hot and steamy romance with a nice dose of angst, some fantastic humor and the traditional HEA, right? Nope. Not even close. I think Ms. Ash may have just created a new genre where women's fiction meets beyond-steamy romance. It might better be described as “rip my heart out, tear it to shreds, chop it up in a blender and toss in a grenade for good measure" romance, because it certainly did all that. And for that, my bruised heart has a few choice words for this author once it gets over the emotional hangover. But the other side of it, that balances things out beautifully, is the reminder of what a precious gift love is, the beauty of hope and healing, and the magic of wishing on a shooting star.

This story is like nothing else in the romance genre today, and it is unforgettable. It’s devastating and heart wrenching, and it's uplifting and inspiring. Ash balances the pain, loss and fear with compassion, optimism and the promise of new beginnings. Yes, it will put your heart through the wringer, but it’s so fresh, unique and different that it’s absolutely worth going on this journey. Ash’s talent and skill truly shine in this phenomenal work that is easily her best to date. I hesitate to take up a spot of my list for top five books of the year, but I think Unbroken Promises rightfully earns a place there.

I’ll admit that I was apprehensive about reading a book with anything that deviates from the typical H/h romance, but I’m so glad I didn’t let that keep me from reading this book. I put on a brave face and dove right in and I was in love with these characters by the end of the second chapter. I thought I knew how things would resolve but I couldn’t have been more wrong. In many aspects it was a challenging read, but the reward was unparalleled. Ash held me prisoner with these very real, vulnerable and eternally endearing characters and I was helpless to do anything but devour the book in one setting. Although their story is poignant and heartbreaking it shows that there can be blessings from pain, contentment from sorrow and beauty from ashes. Tragic. Authentic. Heartbreaking. Inspiring. Unique. Uplifting. Unforgettable. Don’t miss it.

    4/5 sweet tear filled stars!

Oh sweet Delilah, you were dealt such a rough hand and life just wasn’t fair to you. I can’t count the number of times tears fell down my cheeks while reading this beautiful story! Many other times though, Xander and Cole had me wanting to smack some sense into both of them! I really loved this so much, it hit all the soft spots of my soul even when it broke my heart too 🤍

What an emotional book (you definitely need plenty of tissues with this book). From our first meeting between Delilah, Xander and Cole it's a roller coaster ride with Delilah battling cancer so many times right through to her delivery of a beautiful baby and gut-wrenching tragedy. The relationship between the 3 main characters feels so real again with so many highs and some extreme lows. I would definitely recommend this book.
