Unconventional: A Reverse Harem Love Story (Reverse Harem Story Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,720 ratings

I've never needed anyone.

And I’ve always done my best to steer clear of trouble, especially when said trouble comes in the form of three irresistibly sexy frat boys.

But when my college dorm catches fire over winter break, there’s no one else I can turn to on the otherwise deserted campus.

Enter Maven, Chance, and Banyon, and these three knights in tarnished armor are only too eager to pull me into their world of dark secrets and burning desires.

I’ve never needed anyone, but soon I find myself craving their intense gaze, heated whispers, and rough caresses. Each new spark sets my world even more ablaze, making me wonder: Will the guys still be there when it’s time to collect the ashes?

Unconventional: A Reverse Harem Love Story Reverse Harem Story Book 1
    by Rebecca Royce
    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Unconventional is heartfelt, heartbreaking and heartwarming book 1 of A Reverse Harem Love Story which is a new contemporary romance in three parts by Rebecca Royce. This is hands down one of the best stories of Rebecca Royce's Reverse Harem Love Storytelling I’ve ever read and I can’t wait to read them all. Rebecca Royce is a one click author -to-me , I’m happy to say that I couldn’t even wait to read this book, I have read it three times already and I will read it again. From the opening chapter (truthfully, the very first page) I knew that it was going to be something special. Oh my it had the hooks in me instantly from the first page, it's s wonderful, charming, utterly heartbreaking, and fantastic, I knew this book had me feeling a mix of sweet emotional things already. This story might not read like any of your typical closeted- contemporary-reverse-harem-love story because It’s so much more, plus Rebecca Royce’s writing is so compelling in a you can’t read this fast enough’ kind of way, but yet it also manages to be incredibly emotional. What I enjoy so much is her prose isn’t weighed down by unnecessary flourishes or metaphors but it's definitely pure, you get one-hundred percent
undiluted perfection that doesn’t get distracted from the characters or the blazing hot scenes. The charm of the relationship at the getting acquainted stage, the hitting rock bottom with violence along with all the personalities at this level, there is bigotry along with prejudice that some characters can wielded like a weapon against people who wants to live different, I enjoy how it's all expressed, shown dramatically and gratuitous, but without crossing over into trite. The descent into seduction and romance the following of love is hot and raw. That very personal choice to stay close as one, even when there is one woman to love three men. The inherent goodness of these characters, all with their struggles and baggage it feels all so real. I had my hand on my heart for a number of chapters because it's giving you so much feeling. But for all of this goodness, there is darkness in the story too. So much of this story is coming into themselves, loving discovering each other and owning it no matter what or who wants love and hold you. Unconventional features Giovanna Amsel, Maven Stone, Chance Montgomery and Banyan Iburgess. The story features an unconventional relationship that has it's beginning in an even more unconventional setting. Giovanna is a junior at Denberg University, which is a small liberal arts college. She's an English major and the editor of the Literary Magazine even with her introverted dyslexic she is still a good student. These are three gorgeous guys who are realistic but all may seem too good to be true. Maven baggage is his guilt, along with his fear of becoming like his father. Chance hides baggage with his easy laughter but he still has scars. Banyan baggage is he's artistic but he likes to use it as a sharp weapon because it hard to give and receive love freely. Again this book has humour, sadness, blazing hot you may need a box of Kleenex for your tears, a fan or two, this is book 1 of 3. They all make my heartwarm, I want the guys to love Vonni wrap her up in their arms to protect her. I absolutely enjoyed all four of these characters and the book makes me want to protect them all but of course Vonni has her space. The happily ever after of this romance is so perfect, so well earned, and yet every step of the way is natural without feeling as though there were elements thrown in to delay things for the sake of the plot. There is parts I had to put my big panties on just to read those parts but I definitely enjoyed every minute that I read it. I'm so excited to read book 2 in this series.

I was definitely surprised by this book! I listened to book 1 of Rebecca Royce’s college contemporary RH series and definitely fell in love with these amazing characters right away. I smiled a lot while listening and thought some of the guy’s antics were very funny. The guys were very different from each other, which I appreciated, but they had some similar issues with their upbringing that connected the 3 of them to Giovanna (horrible parents, deaths, scandals, etc.). The only reason I couldn’t give it 5 stars is because there was some repetitive dialogue that I noticed that took me out of the story multiple times. I think it was mostly hearing “I love it” a lot and small variations of that in a small amount of time. I think if that wasnt the case, it would have been a 5 star for me. I still really enjoyed it and went on to buy books 2 and 3 to listen to as well!!

The narration I thought was good too. It wasnt my absolute favorite narrator but I didnt have much to pick at (sorry I can be a little picky with narrators haha). I would definitely listen to Jessica again. She did a good job with a male voice but it wasnt easy to distinguish between them and sometimes one would have a hard NY accent but it wasnt consistent.

Overall, I really liked this series and recommend it to all contemporary and RH lovers. The plot wasnt too rushed, the relationship and tension building was spot on, and backstories of the characters and horrible family situations really tugged at my heart.

Recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars (almost 4.5 stars!)

Giovanna Amsel is a junior at Denberg University, a small liberal arts college. She's an English major and the editor of the Literary Magazine. She's a good student but has to work extra hard to stay on top because of her dyslexia. This has made her a disappointment in her parent's minds. As brilliant professors and researchers their expectations for their only child were exceedingly high and once Giovanna didn't meet them she became more of an afterthought to them. Dropped off at college she has been basically on her own ever since. While walking on a deserted campus during the Holiday break Giovanna was approached by a handsome frat guy calling her library girl. Maven Stone has entered her life bringing his two best friends/frat brothers Chance Montgomery and Banyan Iburgess with him. They open up Giovanna's eyes to the world that's been going on all around her, offering new experiences, fun, friendship and the possibility of even more.

Unconventional is part one of three-part contemporary RH story. The characters are all nicely developed. The guys are all almost too good to be true. Maven with his guilt, his fear of becoming his father. Chance with his easy laugh hiding his scars. Banyan so artistic used as a weapon instead of being loved freely. Each comes from a less than perfect family. Their families each have more money than morals or love. The guys have bonded due to their families and their desire to be better than there parents. They have set the bar high for themselves. They all desperately need to be loved. Giovanna may not come from the same income bracket, her dad may not have physically harmed her or committed a crime, but they have damaged her every bit as much as if they had. She has been made to feel less than since she was little. Her parents ignored her. She was made to feel unimportant and unworthy. Other girls grow up dreaming of Prince Charming and a HEA. Giovanna just doesn't want to feel unwanted. She never wants to be a burden to anyone. To be around three smart, handsome men who pay attention to her and seem to want her around is almost beyond her understanding. It's too good to be true. She knows that they will get tired of her soon enough and knows that she will be hurt and lonely again but for right now it's more than she could ask for. She makes my heart feel bruised. I want the guys to wrap her up in their arms and keep her heart safe. All four of these characters make me feel protective of them but especially Giovanna.

This story all takes place over a two week Holiday vacation. It ends as they head back to real life and arrive on campus. I actually screamed at the end. It's not a cliffhanger. One chapter closing, a new one beginning. This first one is the meeting, an idyllic interlude. We know from the prologue that big things are in the future. But what happens between now and then? Is it a natural transition or is there heartache ahead for Giovanna? Frats and pledges, studies, job interviews and graduate school. There are so many small daily obstacles to get between the guys and Giovanna. I'm not sure I want their Holiday to end but at the same time, I need the next part!

Wow, it was not the usual college reverse harem hook up. Sure the sex is steamy and sweetly romantic at the same time but the story itself is very well written, I like how the characters are drawn out that it draws you into the story deeply. I highly recommend this story,

I don't often write reviews for books, but felt that I had to say something about this one since it caught my attention right from the start.
So I haven;t read many RH books and this is my first one in a modern day setting.
As an English major and the editor of the Literary Magazine at Denberg University, I'm fully focused on school. Struggling with being the utter disappointment of my parents--who happen to be two amazing academics--I'm doing my best to prove myself. Stranded on campus with nowhere to go this holiday season, I'm determined to stay on task.

But then, Maven Stone calls my name, and everything changes...

I became hooked, totally immersed in this book from the fist few pages. Each character grabbed me in their own unique way and the more the story progressed the deeper I fell in love with them all. Previous RH books I've read have been more menage than this and I am curious to see how the story will progress. I would dealy love the boys to meet with Giovannas' parents and go off on one telling them how crap they are as parents. I loved how easily Vonni sized up Banyans' mom and dealt with her appropriately. All the way through I kept thinking of the start of the book which is set five years down the line where Vonnie is about to give birth to her first child. Who is the father? Are they all still friends? Do they still have the same Unconventional relationship? I will wait patiently for book two and watch the story unfold a little more and pray for a happy ending.

Oh I loved this!! A good contemporary RH romance that isn't rushed or easily resolved is hard to come by. This one definitely hits the mark! It has an unexpected start, the growing affection, the nerves from all 4 of them about their situation, and the realisation that they want more than a casual 'friends with benefits' arrangement.

The characters are amazing and so likeable - all of them have their deeper personality traits that they keep hidden from most people- that they all feel comfortable enough to open up and share that with Vonnie, and her with them, leaving them exposed, was beautifully written and testament to their attraction and comfort with each other.

The guys are amazing too - Banyan, Chance and Maven are all different, yet such great friends that they work well as a team. There is zero jealousy from the start which I loved. They didn't set out to have this sort of relationship with someone- it just fell into place with Giovanna.

Can't wait to read the next one, and I highly recommend this series!!
