Under The Bridge: A Rock Star Romance (Blue is the Color Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 780 ratings

My new neighbor is a puzzle I want to solve…

Even though I grew up sheltered, I’ve always marched to the beat of my own drum. At twenty-five, I’m finally ready to break free and experience the world in a way I never have. My first step is moving into a new house.

My next door neighbor is a self-contained enigma. I’ve only seen flashes of him through his windows until one night, he rescues me, and then he becomes my hero, a title he makes clear he doesn’t want.

But he keeps coming back to check on me and I find out a few important things about Ian Grady: he’s the drummer for Blue is the Color, he loves anime as much as I do, and he’s not looking for a relationship.

The trouble is the tall, tattooed, and stoic drummer next door is looking like the exact type of adventure I’ve been waiting for.

Review

"To put it simply, Valentina and Ian are the perfect couple." Anna, Goodreads"This is one of the most beautiful stories I have ever read." Andrea, Goodreads"This book made me laugh, it made me cry. It drove me a little crazy at one point!" Beth, Goodreads"It takes more than good writing to produce a story like this, it takes heart and Julia Wolf gave hers completely without reservation to Under The Bridge." Jennifer, Goodreads"From the first page I was hooked. I literally couldn't put it down. The complexity of Ian, his inability to express himself and their relationship broke my heart, but page by page it was pieced back together. I literally sobbed. I don't know the last time a book hit me this hard." Sarah, Goodreads"OH. MY. LORD. You guys think that you know who Ian is? You think you're ready for him? Trust me, you don't, and you aren't." Jenifer, Goodreads

Julia Wolf writes sexy rockers, grumpy billionaires, snarky heroines, and bad ass women. She’s a firm believer in happily ever afters, no matter how rocky the road is to get there.

She doesn’t believe in “guilty pleasures”, only pleasure. Reading about a plus size woman who gets absolutely railed by a hot rock star is pleasure. Reading about a damaged college student whose flaws are valued and loved by the grumpy guy next door is pleasure. Reading about love in a small town or big city or on a tour bus is pleasure. Reading romance is pleasure!

Julia lives in Maryland with her husband and three crazy, beautiful children. When she’s not writing romance, she’s reading it. Some of her favorite things are, in no particular order: goats, books, coffee, and Target.

Oh. My. Gerd!!!!!! WOW! What a book! What a roller coaster of emotions. What an awesome story! Ian may not be the most "popular" member of Blue is the Color, but he's well worth getting to know. He literally marches to the beat of his own drum and after suffering betrayal and heartbreak last year, he became somewhat of a recluse, living in his house in Baltimore. This is great timing though because he has a new neighbor - a cute girl he watches for a while before one day helping her out of a sticky situation. There was an instant spark and before you know it, he's stalking her Instagram page and sending her DMs. A friendship is born with a mutual attraction on both sides. Valentina is a pretty nerdy but cool chick who designs costumes for a living. She's not one to let Ian run all over her and she lets him know when he's stepped over her boundaries, which he does multiple times. The tension between the two is sizzling and I love how she helps Ian come out of his shell to find his way back into his family and a normal life. This book is a great slow burn and one of my favorites of the series. Thanks Julia for letting us get to know Ian and watching the layers peeled back one at a time. I enjoyed the ride.

This one started out a little iffy for me. I wasn't sure if I even liked Ian the male MC at first. He really did come off as an a$$hole but I hung in there. It took me awhile to warm up to him. I'll be honest, I was never clear in what was going on with Ian. He had issues with his parents and something to do with his speech and he had difficulty expressing himself. I just didn't understand why. His background was a little to vague for my liking. It made it hard to connect to him.

Valentina was likeable from the beginning. Her childhood was non-traditional but she was an open book so I was able to connect with her immediately. While I didn't really get the attraction she had for Ian at first I got used to the idea. The more time they spent together the more invested I became. They fit together like a puzzle.

It was, of course, great to see the rest of the band and other important characters. I won't say more because it might spoil things for some readers.

Despite my misgivings, the story was very well done. As I have come to expect from this author, the writing was excellent. No glaring plot holes, no timeline issues, or editing problems that I can recall. It had a great balance of angst, romance, and levity. The dialog was intelligent, realistic, and witty. It was a good read and I would definitely recommend it.

While I don't feel I can give it five stars, I can definitely give it four big shiney stars!

***I received an ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.***

In this 4th book of the series we get some insight into the reclusive Ian, the drummer of our favorite band; Blue is the Color. We find that the band has taken some much needed time off and due to all the things that have gone on over the last year or so, Ian has pulled back more than normal.
Enter the little pixie Valentina. She’s younger, worldly but not experienced with one on one time with people. There’s a bit of an issue and Ian steps in to help fix it (as he’s watching out his windows).

Then when he finds out she’s in to manga/anime/makes costumes and clothing, he’s really getting into spending time with her. While the relationship starts slow and both try to fight it, it becomes bigger than either expected and they fall for each other. Ian, being Ian, does all he can to wreck it before it starts but the pull is too strong for either to deny it.
Things do progress but then Ian, becomes Ian again, and things get messy, confused, and go shit quickly. Add in other stress factors (relationships, ego’s, Ian’s historical issues) and things go south quickly. I won’t go into details about what finally pushes Valentina to the break point, but some shit goes down, she leaves, and then stew’s about what really is going on for a little bit. Ian tries to help (and he does), tries to make it right (which he does in the end) but given all the history it does take time to get to HEA.
Awesome read by a great author! I feel in love with Ian more and more each page and given that there are 3 books ahead of his that give you a different perspective of him, this book really does give the insight into his character and you learn to love him for him (faults and all) just live Valentina does.
** Love the nicknames that Ian calls Valentina in the book.

I enjoyed all of the Blue is the Color series, but Ian’s story is my favorite! This is the only one that I revisited months later after the story just stayed with me. Some of Ian’s personality traits remind me of my husband which made him more real and endearing to me, and Valentina was just so authentically herself that I wish I could be her friend! I did feel like the last situation was a misunderstanding that was blown way out of proportion by Valentina, but I think maybe the seriousness of the situation with her cousin could have been emphasized a little more to show how scared and lost Valentina felt when Ian wasn’t by her side through it from the get go. Overall, loved it and I’m not generally a romance reader!

I knew Ian’s story would make me cry!! This man’s pain is so palpable it makes my heart hurt. I’m a bitter Betty and can hold a grudge better than most, it’s the Scorpio in me. After what Malka and Jas did to my boy, I almost gave up on the whole series. I’m so glad I stuck around for his HEA. I needed that closure.
Valentina is perfect for Ian. I’m so glad you gave him a strong and quirky heroine. Someone unique and special for the boy who almost lost his words forever. I love love love this book. Ian has my heart 100 percent. My official favorite blue boy.

This is the final band members book, Ian. I was very hesitant about reading this book because I didn’t feel anything for Ian. But I’m glad I did. I loved Ian. He is difficult but lovable. Valentina is precious and so perfect for him. I could have done without the last bit of angst when she got so mad that he didn’t go with her to the hospital....misunderstanding blown out of proportion. It was a nice ending for my boys.

Ian, Ian, Ian! Here I was thinking that Jasper will be my favorite and along comes the hulking Ian Grady taking that prime spot!

My heart broke for Ian in the last book but I felt that he truly did not deserve to be with Malka. He was and still is an enigma and he needed someone who will not only understand and love him but will keep him afloat and in the right path.

Valentina, with her colorful cardigans and sweaters, is the perfect muse. Not only does she marches to her own tunes but having seen and experienced all the good and bad things that the world has to offer makes her emphatic to the struggles of another person. I loooovvve her! I love everything about her and again, she is absolute perfection.

Their story is just like they are as individuals; deep, colorful and tinged with all the beautiful quirkiness that makes them perfect humans in this utterly imperfect world. They, especially Ian, are not weird. They are wired differently and express their feelings and emotions in a different manner which makes them stand out from the normalcy of their surroundings.

The book deserves more than just 5 stars!

Amazon, you really do not cut it, when you don't make the fact that we can buy this title in BOOK form as well as e book, I had to find the author to get a link to buy Under the Bridge as a book. This whole series focussed on a successful rock band, Blue is the Color, is a wonderful study of misfits who fit together and Ian Grady, the hero of the fourth in the series is the mis-fittted of all. A great musician and a great drummer, he manages with the music, but a speech problem since he was a child has made him an amazingly awkward adult, unable to have relationships because he can't communicate, says the wrong thing, can'r reach out and even worse cannot respond except with music. His privileged blood family cannot related from their conventional framework to this effectively disabled child, and when he is chucked out of his private school into a tough public school he finally hooks up so to speak - as we learn from the back story subtly woven into this novel - with the three other musicians who make up the band. He hasn't seen his blood family for ten years - his brothers are the band that he met twenty years ago, effectively his loving and understanding family through all the success and excess they have shsared, but when one of them ,Jas, falls for Malka, Ian's toxic girlfriend for two years (see Book 3 in the series ) he becomes ever more reclusive, hardly able to speak as the band goes on a one year hiatus. Living in quite a grand row house in Baltimore Ian has a neighbour a 25 year old costume designer, Valentina.....from a very unconventional background and as they--- through a coincidental meeting when Ian saves Valentina from a doorstep assault from a bad date - they slowly get to know each other and she learns to read Ian, so to speak, even when he cannot articulate. The relationship is captivating, their problems and talents absorbing, and the journey emotionally authentic - hardly smooth but opening both of them out, believably changing them to fit. I read hundreds of rock star novels and most of them are truly rubbish; the wonderful writers that touch on real dilemmas and emotion within the rock star context are few and far between. This is very real and Julia Wolf's way with the human dilemma is fascinating, absorbing and terrific. Not to mention very well written. Oh more please.

This is my favourite from all the books, absolutely smashed this Julia Wolf. It was edgy and dynamic but had the most sweet moments, a character that just blended in the background in the other books turned into a phenomenal headliner in his own book. I absolutely loved the fact that she's the girl next door who is completely relatable and proves that most women have that little bit of crazy. I would recommend this book to anybody that asks, just a bit gutted it's over as her next book isn't out until November 🤦🏻‍♀️
