Under a Different Sky (Hand Over My Heart Duet Book 1) Kindle Edition
I'm walking around with a black eye. My position on the hockey team is questionable at best, and if that’s not bad enough, I think I'm falling for my dead girlfriend's best friend.
Every day, it's a fight to feel alive, and yet, I drink to numb the pain. Everyone is standing back, watching me fall apart.
Everyone except Hannah. No matter how many times I push, she's there to pull me back. She refuses to let me spiral any deeper. And after one kiss—she’s impossible to ignore.
Unfortunately, it seems she and I aren’t the only thing being kept a secret.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 6, 2025Reminds me of my childhood crush. Never once looked at me. But I was head over heels for him. To this day he hasn't looked at me. I'm 30 now. 16 yrs of loving 1 person who won't even look at you. Broke my heart. But great read. Best I've read so far.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2019I liked the plot of this story with the general angst that is so rampant amongst high schoolers. This one depicts that well for the age group. Hannah is truly awesome. Her parents did a great job of raising her to be strong, selfless and independent. As for Nick, I see that he's a good guy, but he is devastated after his girlfriend's death and falling apart at the seams. The way he deals with his grief is rather reckless and everyone can see that. Hannah is there to help pick up the pieces and while she has no expectations, Nick is seeing her with new eyes and thinks that maybe he doesn't have to keep feeling pain and destruction when he's around Hannah. While she has her reservations, Nick is selfishly taking the bits and peaces of happiness that he can, and I think for the sake of his survival, he needs to. They have a true connection together although it's a bit of a question if it's through mutually shared pain. While I adored Hannah, I wouldn't mind seeing Nick step it up in the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2025I read a blurb in Our World’s Collide and I had to read this story. Nick falling for his dead girlfriend’s best friend is a ride! They fit so perfect together. Everything is against them and her words meant only for Mia tear them apart. It ends in a cliff hanger! You won’t want to stop!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2019Nick and Hannah weren’t meant to fall in love but some things can’t be stopped. Though it seems there are secrets that could change the entire course of their relationship.
I really enjoyed the premise of this story. Nick’s a hard guy to handle but he’s been through a lot and luckily has people in his life who refuse to give up on him, one of those people being Hannah. Hannah is sweet and a little naive in thinking she can change a guy who is so intent on self-destruct. I liked these characters as individuals. Hannah is likable and even though Nick is so angry at the world you can see how he would have been easy to love in the past. Unfortunately I had a hard time with their romantic relationship and that’s the reason for my 3 star rating. I just didn’t feel the romantic chemistry between them. I think it was a little abrupt for my liking and so I didn’t have time to warm up to them as a couple.
I also had a hard time following the storyline because the transitions didn’t make sense or there wasn’t any at all. A few examples would be how they’d be sitting on the bed having a discussion and then all of a sudden the next sentence they’re changing their clothes and then once again all of a sudden they’re talking to other people in a different room. They’d lock eyes across the room and then all of a sudden they’re talking face-to-face. They’d be laying on the bed then all of a sudden she’s standing staring out the window. Things changed so abruptly that I had a hard time following and unfortunately it affected the flow of the story.
The ending was great if you like cliff-hangers which I don’t mind. It would have been nice to have a heads up but of course an author is not required to do so. Am I intrigued about the future of these characters? Yes. Will I read the second book? I’m not sure. But I will say as having read most of this author’s books I do think her creativity and ability to give her audience a good book has grown.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 14, 2023Hannah and Nick
After Mia death Hannah the best friend and Nick the boyfriend experience a loss and spiraling out of control. Hannah made a promise to Mia to look after Nick. She been trying to keep that promise but Nick has been making it hard to help him, drinking fighting and hooking up with random girls.
Until Nick start having feeling for Hannah. Hannah start to take care of Nick and when a boy ask her out she goes out with him and Nick gets jealous and start to open up to her about his loss and guilt .
Hannah has been keeping a secret from Nick.
She been in love with Nick since Third grade and Mia knew this that why she ask Hannah to be their for him only that nothing more Nick find out and break Hannah heart.
It end in a cliffhanger.
Love the book I felt bad for Hannah. Mia forcing Hannah to keep a promise knowing Hannah had a crush on Nick it feel diabolical. It’s like Mia didn’t want Nick to keep grieving and never to move on.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2024I am sitting here at the end of the middle of this journey BAWLING. I am happy I discovered this duet when the second half was completed because if I had to wait I’d be screaming. This book is so complex and the navigation of loss and grief and moving on is so delicate. I love Hannah and Nick and I can’t wait to read the second half.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ruminations of an Insomniac...
I stumbled across this book thanks to a Meagan Brandy suggestion, and was not disappointed. I read it first, then proceeded to read everything else Lindsey has published, before reading it again.
To start, this book slayed me. Breaking my heart and piecing it back together, more than once. Nick and Hannah have so much natural chemistry, it's a wonder they didn't spontaneously combust at first glance. Both beautifully broken, their stories slid together seamlessly. Shattered in vastly different ways, yet for the same reason. Lindsey's writing runs the gamut. You name it, I felt it: Melted chocolate, sticky sweet. Take a step back and several composing moments, steamy. Real life, yup these are my people, quirky. Wishing I was that witty in high school, sarcastic. Laugh out loud (I startled my toddler on more than one occasion) funny. Sitting on the floor, ugly crying, heart hurt. It's all there.
The story of #Hannick (?is that a thing we're doing now?) speaks volumes to the startling reality of the loss of a young life. It lends encouragement and awe, with the strength these young people put forth. It proves the power of having extraordinary people in your corner. The kind of people that refuse to give up. They'll pull you in, lost in their dynamic. And then suddenly, it's over and you're desperately searching for invisible pages. But rest assured, this review is just in time. Because while that cliffhanger made me lose several hours of sleep, the second half of their duet is out now too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional rollercoaster
This is the first book I’ve read from this author & oh my, what a great first book for me to discover her! This story is so very emotional. Nick is heartbroken from losing his girlfriend Mia to cancer. He’s absolutely devastated by it & drowning in grief. He finds some comfort in Hannah, Mia’s best friend. Grieving together they some become closer and it’s not long before feelings develop between them. However they both feel guilty for falling for each other. But Hannah made a promise to Mia and the more she falls for Nick the more the lines blur on the promises she made. This book will have you ugly crying it’s an emotional rollercoaster of a ride. And the ending! Oh my I can’t wait for noon two now!

4.0 out of 5 stars Well Written Teen Angst
Perfect if you like a whole load of teen angst, grief, drama. I wanted emotional and it definitely delivered, with tears in the very first chapter! Not a huge fan of Nick's constant urge to use his fists. Get him some anger management classes. But it's a well written story, an easy read and I'm looking forward reading part 2.
