Three menacing tasks are all that separate Zander from his inheritance. Three gruesome tasks and Phoenix might finally be free. The question is can Phoenix complete them and keep her sanity in check? Can Zander play the part without unleashing the monster behind the mask?

- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2020Get your friends to download this book and do a group chat about it, I guarantee you'll have LOTS to talk about! With this quarantine happening, I've been reading a lot of books and this is the first 5 star read I've read in a while. There is no warning in the description of the book, but it does contain triggers. The book reminded me a little of the TV series the Handmaids Tell, but this book is sooooo much better than the series! Picture a world where men are superior to women....actually, that's not hard to picture. Instead picture a world where the women owe society a debt for being born a female. In this book when a women become of age they are bid on by men, to be owned. The more a man is willing to give for this woman, the more her debt is paid. If that debt isn't paid in full then you must work it off by being a slave to your bidder (AKA Master). Some masters are caring and treat their slave well, but most are a despicable and torturous with a very twisted mind. Among the fact you are now owned by your new master, a slave also has 3 tasks to accomplish. These tasks are beyond your imagination! To give you an idea though, in the past, one the slaves admitted that she was branded like cattle during her "task". I don't want to give too much away, but I'll say, don't trust the father! He's the real villain in this book, but fear not, the daughter is a very strong willed woman who will triumph in the end.
*This book may not be for everyone, but for those who like a dark twisted read, this is the PERFECT book for you!!!*
- Reviewed in the United States on July 13, 2019So Shannon Youngblood absolutely has an odd sense of humour - and I say that nicely. If this is your first time reading her books, well, welcome to the club because you'll either love her books or hate them. Why? Because she goes against what we consider the norm for books. She writes what she wants to read and that absolutely works for her.
This book is neither bad nor knock you on your butt amazing. But it is memorable. It's fascinating. And it was a captivating storyline that makes me wonder if there will be more to this story in the future. Either way, I can't wait to read more from her in the future.

Upon reading these words - Is this about a religion? Is this about a strict upbringing for the children? Is this a Cult?
Having read all the books written by this author I think to myself – she cannot shock me with her words. Boy was I wrong - When I read this book I was in shock. Shocked in a very good way – the development of the story and the characters is amazing. The Characters live in a world that we may not understand or may not accept. But as you sit here reading this there are still towns practicing as the Faith or possibly worse. The story is set in a town that Men are superior, and woman are only there to serve and be used however the men wish. The bases of this story and all the task that are covered in this story are shocking and all would consider despicable but the way this author addresses these are nothing short of amazing. Taboo, how do you handle it well? I must tell you this author has it figured out to a tee. Even though you may want to stop reading it, yell at the story or possibly walk away you never do. It keeps you reading and turning the pages as quickly as you can. I call this author amazing. I call this author brilliant. She has figured out how to take a world that we the norm cannot understand or may never be a part of and has brought it to the forefront and has laid it all out there – giving you a look inside The Faith. Shocking as it maybe the main characters in her story Phoenix and Zander are thrown into this world and must come to terms with what is to be expected from them. After all that the author has written and we have gone through with Phoenix and Zander they do get there Happily Ever After. Agree or disagree this book is a MUST READ!!! Do not and I can not say it enough Do NOT let this book pass you by.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 28, 2019Ok I'm kind of trying to figure out what the heck to write.....just going to wing it.
Just WOW!! I thought "Trapped" was dark but this one is dark BUT and that's a big BUT this one actually had a really satisfying ending to the story.
Phoenix was an extremely strong female character. I loved her stubbornness, loyalty, and her character. The things she went through OMG!!
Zander well I think I want him for myself. I don't think I could ever call someone MASTER but I concede for him.
This FAITH society is in the dark ages for sure but their is a reason for everything they do. I think it was high time for a change.
I'm not giving anything away because I think as a reader you need a little WOW factor and dang this book had in spades for sure. Shannon knows dark that's a given.
Job well done Shannon you've gotten me to like a genre I've not given much a chance on. Ding, ding, ding, winner winner from this avid reader.
Just know this book could cause triggers, it's dark and I mean really DARK! Don't go into this one thinking rainbows, unicorns and glitter.....
If you love dark then I recommend this book for you.
Thanks Jamie Nibarger Ellis
- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2021Eh. The writing was just okay, and some things were too OTT to punch any sort of impact, or even be disgusted, because it was all just too unbelievable and shallow. Also hard to believe the hero let the father do that to her, and then all of a sudden became so protective and possessive of her. Just didn't make sense.
