Unwritten: An Unscripted Series Standalone Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 341 ratings

I should have been on top of the world but I was trapped, suffocated by fame. My life wasn’t my own. I belonged to the fans and the media. Too famous to leave my house without attracting a crowd. Fame and anxiety prevented a connection. I was doomed to stay a virgin forever, or so I thought until I fell for the one person forbidden to me: My director.

Four months of working side by side while trying to keep my hands to myself or one of us would lose our job. The temptation was going to kill me.

Unwritten is a standalone, steamy slow burn, age-gap with low angst, and a dog that’s in charge.

KInda going backwards here. Was a recommended this book on Bookbug. I love MM books and the cover piqued my interest, so i got it........thoroughly glad I did.... A slow burn book that at times aggravated me, but it also made me keep reading cause I couldn't miss them finally being together. Mel was such a great fit for Tobias... The age gap was great. Tobias needed someone older, someone that understood him and could bee patient. A younger guy wouldn't have been so kind and understanding. Tobias was already living a torturous life, being a star and adored sex god at such an early age, being limited to the public because of attacks and stalkers, made his life a hell, causing him panics attacks and living like a recluse. Mel being his director on his sequel to a film that had catapulted him to stardom, was drawn to him from the day they met at the casting party. There was instant attraction on both sides, but due to company policy, they couldn't seek anything more than friendship... which was painful for both them and me! They were so great together and I wanted them to be a couple as much as they did. Mel calmed Tobias and Tobias warmed Mel's heart. It was great reading them getting to know each other and when they were finally able to be together, I cheered. Loved this book so much, I immediately got the first two. Can't wait to read them.

I discovered JR Gray while browsing KU. Unscripted was the first book I read by this author and I was captured then. In Rewritten I was intrigued by Tobias and Alfred. I was extremely excited to find out that Unwritten would be a book for Tobias.

I enjoyed how Gray was able to talk about mental health in the books, especially this one. A lot of times mental health is glossed over. We often think that because someone is rich or privileged they should not have depression or anxiety, but it’s not about how much money you have. Mental health does not choose by race, sex or pro page and JR Gray shows this in his stories.

He also shows that even people with mental health disorders need and can be loved. He explained this with compassion and empathy. I loved how Alfred and Finley were there for Tobias. Alfred is historical and acts more like a cat than a dog! Finley is amazing and definitely needs to find his HEA. Finley is a good character because Tobias is not just a job for him.

This book is a slow burn with some angst but once you get to the steamy part it’s worth the wait!

I like slow burn and relationships development in books but it was really dragged out in this story. Mel is a successful director in his forties, Tobias - super successful actor in his twenties. They want each other from the first encounter but can't since they work together. And then it becomes the center plot line. We want - we can't - but we want - but we can't and so on. At some point it stopped being believable. There were much better story lines to concentrate on - age difference, anxiety, fame vs privacy but those were put aside and not developed to its full potential. I also struggled with constant reminders of how beautiful/gorgeous Tobias is. He was such a likable character and there were plenty of other qualities that made him attractive.
Overall, nice read that could be more.

I really appreciated the author’s note at the beginning of the book that discussed his process and his need to write this as a joyous story. I read it with that in mind and loved every moment of it. Mel deserved his own HEA, and he ended up with a god among men. Tobias was so sweet. They both made me happy. I missed their friend Ella, though. She must have been directing photography on another movie this time around. I was a little surprised at how much weed Quell was imbibing, but he was on hiatus. He and Hale were still going strong. I loved Tobias’ dog, Alfred, as well as his bodyguard, Finley. Oh, and I loved Rose, the writer of the comic books that inspired all the Righteous movies. It all just worked and made me happy.

This is book 3 of the Unscripted series, and while it is a standalone, I highly recommend reading the first two books to give context to Hale and Quell who are in this story.

I love that the two MMCs are good people, there's nothing salacious about them as people or their intentions. They fall in love and it's such a sweet love story. Add a loveable and protective dog to the mix and you've got a great story.

Oh, and throwing in a Mulan reference by none other than Mushu, and you immediately have my buy-in.

This was a light, funny, and sweet love story.

    Highly recommend!!!

Being attracted to the hottest guy on the planet wasn't going to be easy because there are so many obstacles. He's about 20 years younger for one. He's also more than just famous, he's iconic. And I'm technically his boss for the next few months so he's totally off limits. Did I mention I have to watch him in spandex and shirtless nearly every day? And don't even mention the freakout about him making out with his costar. We all need to forget about that. What's a guy to do?

This slow-burn, age gap romance is sweet and sexy. Mel and Tobias find in each other an easy friendship, connection, and attraction. While Alfred (the dog) is a light hearted touch that balanced out their angst. Absolutely love him! Unwritten is the perfect addition to the Unscripted Universe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet romance.

This story demonstrates what a versatile writer JR Gray really is. I've read many of his books, and this has got to be the sweetest. Such a delightful may/december romance, which is extremely slow burn, it was lovely watching Mel and Tobias' romance develop, as they courted one another. It's not all plain sailing though, there is some angst, I really felt for Tobias. Everytime he showed any uncertainty or feelings of insecurity, I just wanted to reach into the book and hug him.

I am full of admiration for how JR deals with the problem of mental issues in such a real and unromantic way. Having had two people very close to me suffer from panic and anxiety attacks, I feel that the feelings of resentment, guilt and embarrassment are so well explored. The author obviously understands how the condition can affect not only the life of someone, but also those who care for them.

The story is well written and, despite Tobias' suffering, is full of love and humour. I loved the interactions between both the MCs and the secondary characters, the dialogue is very well done. Oh, and I nearly forgot to mention Alfred the dog, he's a real scene stealer. This is the third book of the series and could, I suppose be read as a standalone. However, I suggest that you read the previous books, because the MCs of those do play significant parts in this one. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed this latest JR Gray story, and highly recommend the whole series.

This was a nice story, easy, fun..

I’d worried, in the prior book, that Tobias might have been a guy with some troublemaking tendencies.
How pleased I was to discover I was wrong.
In fact, he was a total sweetheart of a man, a little lonely and fighting his anxiety and disfluency issues while living in a very public eye.
    I really liked him.
And Mel was endeared to me already, having met him and seen his wonderful qualities at work in the first two books as Quells very supportive best friend.

These two together were a pleasure… even though they (and I) had to wait sooooo long to actually get there…

Alfred the dog was a good bonus, his antics provided a few laughs.

I’d like to read Finley’s story… he seemed a good bloke too.

Loved that Mel finally got his HEA. Tobias was an amazing guy flaws and all. I love that JR Gray is able to make these amazingly flawed characters that make movie stars much more relatable. Finley was an awesome side character and Alfred really store the show.
