The immortal knight faces defeat in the English Civil War and battles the vampire Oliver Cromwell.

AD 1644. While Richard Ashbury finds love in Italy, disaster strikes back home in London.

When Richard returns he finds England in a state of war as Puritan rebels battle to overthrow the English Crown.

But for the first time in centuries, Richard finds himself without allies and without his friends in the Order of the White Dagger as he struggles to save the king from the immortal commanders of the New Model Army.

In an England oppressed by the tyranny of the Puritans, he cannot know who to trust and defeat follows defeat until he is driven to depths of despair he has never before known.

I write action-packed sci-fi and historical fantasy. I want to immerse readers in another time and place and for my stories to be gripping adventures. You should love my complex heroes and hate the twisted bad guys.

If you like the sound of that then check out; GODS OF BRONZE (my new historical fantasy series), THE IMMORTAL KNIGHT CHRONICLES (bestselling historical fantasy) and the GALACTIC ARENA series (smart military scifi).

The summary states what the book starts as. Richard is in italy relaxing and falls in love only to get an message to come home that forces him to go. This book is another great addition to this series and I would highly reccomend it to anyone who likes historical fantasy, Vampires that aren't sparkly and teenagers, and just great writing.

We get to see how much Sir Richard has really progressed from when he started as he doesn't have Eva and stephen to guide him like he has before. Will he be the knight who only knows how to meet threats head on like when he started? Or will he be tactical and cunning. The author did a good job of showing this yet not beating you over the head with it and making it feel artificial. We also got to see an old favorite.

Perhaps the authors greatest skill in my opinion is his ability to make everything feel authentic but not make you cringe. It is told from the view of someone who was born in the time of Richard the lionheart. Yet even when dealing with very unpleseant issues from history the author doesn't shy away from the horror nor does he make the character seem to drastically change for that one thing. These books just get better and better and I highly reccomend them.

I really enjoyed this book, more than the previous one. Its definitely one of the best in the series, which is saying something--since I thought they were all at least "good" reads. This story felt like a couple books rolled into one, but I wasn thankful its rollercoaster ride didn't stay down toward the end. So much happened in this book. I really enjoyed the simple yet memorable interaction with Richard and "grandfather". New characters added, and sadly some gone--per usual.
All in all, it just was an amazing adventure from Italy to Scotland and many other places. Its hard to pin down this book b/c it has so many flows to it, from military action, to love stories, friendships, historical narratives, and the fantastical. Truly loved this one, so glad to see the series improve again--which I find to be a rare thing with most long book series.

Intrigue, lush historical detail, vampires (sorry, vampir) loads of action...what's not to love? Dan Davis continues to thrill with the continuing adventures of the immortal Richard Ashbury and his battles with his devious immortal brother William set among true to life historical settings, interacting with real life historical figures and inspiring me to Google constantly to look up the historu behind all his depictions! 🙂

Again the Immortal Knight and his friends are trying to restore the King of England to his throne as well as look for his brother William who has been trying to kill him for several hundred years.

5.0 out of 5 stars He's nailed it again!

As far as I'm aware, nobody has written a series of historical fiction novels that have bridged the span of centuries of history so effectively. Yes, in essence these books are about Vampires but for those not into that sort of thing, it is just a tool to explain the main characters motivations for being at the heart of so many historical events, and of course, Richards longevity which is the tool required to link the historical events that make up the meat and bones of each book. I'm not that interested in the English Civil war but Davis brought the confusion of it alive and this book has more ups and downs for Richard than any previously, and twist and turns more than the serpents that must occupy Williams soul. The return of Priskos( not a big spoiler, don't worry!) is fascinating too, and I think Davis is building up something nicely there for a future book a few down the line! Top read, well done! Tldr; unputdownable!

Another fantastic novel in what is turning out to be one of my all time favourite book series.
I hate spoilers so won’t be giving anything away but if you have followed the previous books you won’t be disappointed with Vampire Cavalier. For what it’s worth, in my personal opinion this book seems to be a turning point or beginning of a major story arc that creates lots of questions needing to be answered. As a reader of the series the next instalment can not come quick enough!!!
Dan Davis is hugely gifted author and his books are some of the most enjoyable I have ever read.
If there ever was a book series that should be adapted for TV The Immortal Knight Chronicles is it!!

Book eight done and dusted and I'm sure book nines just around the corner . More surprises in this one though till that happens, one of the biggest for me was Scotland gets a good few mentions, even my home city of Dundee. I never spoil it for readers of Dans works, so will simply say, if you've enjoyed what's gone before, then more of this saga will keep you intrigued till book nine appears. Enjoy.
