This book has everything that we have come to expect in this series. It was a fast pace, a lot of action, history information, and it would have been a five stars but I hate when the author kills off a main character. Get the books and leave your reviews.

All of Dan Davis' books are great, I've been reading this series nonstop and have listened to all his videos on youtube. He is sorely underrated as an author and orator.

Much like the author I’m a huge history nut. I’m also a sucker for vampire stories. Pun intended. I love the concept of following one immortal through the great historical events. For me, this was the first time I felt like the characters got developed a little deeper. Richard began to question his vow to automatically destroy the spawn of William. Vlad Dracul was a wonderfully complex character. I really enjoyed the re-telling of this period in Romanian history.

This series just keeps getting better and better and I am impatiently waiting for the next one.

Great series if you like historical fiction with a twist. Solid characters with honor, pain, remorse, and bravery. I’ve read all 6 this last one was my favorite with the introduction of Vlad the Impaler. Love the twist and turns and the desire to destroy evil. Well done!

Well, this story continued strong at times with some great war scenes and some intense battles. The author provides alot of historical info which at times slows things down. Vlad was a really interesting character and the monks at the end were great. I found myself bored and just pushing myself through at points. Then the book would get really good again, then more so-so drawn out stuff. I give the book 4 stars b/c I think it had a great ending. The vampire lore, the monks, the interplay between Vlad and some of the other new characters was great. The old characters like Steven, Walt, Rob, Eva etc were really flat. This book was the least character driven, and the mainstays of many of the books become flat background characters with little in the way of interesting dialogue. I think most of us reading this series are interested in the Vampire lore created, and the characters interwoven into a historical book. Other from Vlad, I didn't find there to be alot of character development and the older characters basically had bit parts this book at best.

I thought the book ended well and got me back interested again, otherwise I would have rated it a 3. Hopefully it picks up and gets back to some of it strengths, and we get a bit less of a history lesson, especially one with fiction. I also like when our favorite characters don't become flat background characters for an entire book.

If you love historical fiction give these books a try . Merging vampires and historical fiction is a fantasic idea. The fighting is detailed and fast and the story keeps you reading well into the night when you should be sleeping lol . Def 5 stars across the board

I was a little lost. This book was too much about the wars and not enough about the vampires until close to the end. I shortfall the other previous books but I grew bored with this one until the end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dracula!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 11, 2019
Dan Davis really delivers what we/I want, i.e. violence of a visceral kind and on a massive scale. There are so many huge battles in this book and they are all brilliant and somehow all different. One influences the tactics and implications of the next and on the outcome of each rests the fate of Christendom, ever threatened by the darkest and most malevolent forces. Battles in the hills and across rivers, battles on the Danube, battles on the great plains. It's fantastic.

Best of all we get to meet the legend that is Dracula. Vlad the Impaler makes a massive impression. Throughout, I wondered whether he was good or evil, whether he was on Richard’s side or William’s, and what schemes he was enacting. I envy any reader who has yet to find out.

Richard and William, amid the pursuit of their ancient vendetta, are once again deciding the fate of nations in their struggles to outwit and outfight each other. William has the might of the Ottoman Empire behind him and Richard has nothing but squabbling minor principalities. The story is brilliant and epic. Roll on Drake and the Armada!

5.0 out of 5 stars FAR AWAY PLACES WITH STRANGE SOUNDING NAMES.

Yes honestly, half of them I couldn't even pronounce!! I However, back to the continuing story of Richard of Ashbury v his evil brother William. The first half of the book concentrates on battles fought in those foreign countries mentioned at the start of the review and it's only till about half way in that we first encounter Vlad Dracula. Be aware, this Dracula is not your typical Hammer Horror Dracula. There's no windows that open on there own, Dracula doesn't float in on a cloud of mist and there's no beautiful woman with heaving breasts in a night dress waiting for him to bite her in the neck. No this Dracula is cruel beyond belief. Men women and children are slaughtered by the thousand as the books cover depicts. Interspersed with all this going on, Richard still hunts his evil brother William, continues battles and hopes to eventually kill him. Phew!! Followers of the series will no doubt love this book, those who haven't can enjoy it as a stand alone read. How does it end, well give it a try and find out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vlad Dracula is here!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 11, 2019
Just when you thought it couldn’t get any more bloody, Vlad the Impaler shows up. The author portrays him as both a sympathetic and fully realised and yet also a complete psychopath who feels nothing when doing his great cruelties and horrific executions. I didn’t know which way things were going to go. There is so much history and politics in this one which makes you understand the implications and the stakes for every battle which were awesome. The books were always dark but they are also always very funny, and darkly so. The stand out is Walt still but their banter is brilliant and Stephen’s manner made me laugh more than anything. I can’t believe I read it all so fast and now I have to wait again for the next one!

You are immersed into the bloody struggle between the Balkans and the Turkish empire. There are lots of twists and turns, and the story takes in Dracula in the form of Vlad the Impaler. The story and struggle continues at an excellent pace, and this book is yet stronger than its predecessors well worth the read.
