Book two in this epic adventure and action filled saga. It's time period and many of the characters initially are composed of characters based on the adventures of Robin Hood. The primary character and others are vampires. This tale centers on the capture of William Dr Ferrers the evil vampire. The primary character Richard of Ashbury is in constant pursuit of him but William always manages to barely slip away and escape. Book two is another excellent read which I enjoyed immensely!!

The only reason I'm not giving a five star is the amount of intolerable spelling errors. For Heaven's sake. span and spun are mis-spelled twice back to back. Oy. It's not American English or HRM English, just bad proof reading. Sigh. Otherwise, I like the plot. I'm near the end of the second book and I am enjoying the series. Said to know that the next book may be a bit further away. I'm hoping that the next book comes forward a few hundred years. I'd hate to be permanently stuck in the 1200s.

This was a very enjoyable read, from its action and attention to detail to the very different take on Robin Hood. I recommend this and the whole series.

I'm so glad I stumbled across this book by accident! The author definitely knows history and writes an engaging, well-paced story. The characters are written well and with the excellent story telling makes for a great read. As others have already stated, I too would like to know more about the blood and more background on how that all came to be. Here's hoping the third book will delve more into that aspect.

I was really starting to get into this series but only the first two book are on audible. When or are the rest of the books going to be on audible?

I was hooked even more so than the first book, which is rare indeed.

The intertwined history and story were thoroughly enjoyable. Our hero having flaws and making mistakes was realistic and engaging. I would still like more explanation of the mechanics and origins of the vampirism but it isn't a deal breaker. I was also impressed with the editing and lack of mistakes.

I'm looking forward to the third book.

Most read the first book first, to set the story.

This second book of the series Richard of Ashbury continues his quest to find and kill his brother William for all the evil that he has done in England. There are more great characters and their descriptions are easy to see in your mind. There is lots of fighting and of course blood drinking and I can’t wait until the next book is published!

5.0 out of 5 stars New take on the origins of a classic legend.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 4, 2016
All the best bits of the first book are present in this one. The first book set the stage and this one just improves on the already interesting characters. Set in England in 1216 this tale of revenge revisits one of the classic settings in folk lore, Sherwood Forrest. The main character, Richard, is on a personal mission of revenge. He is an honest character written into a detailed, rich and believable world set in historical events that blend seamlessly with the fiction of the story. Despite Richard being a bloody ruthless killer, Dan Davis made me personally sympathise and relate to him. The internal struggle between his hatred for William and the love for his friends and family provides plenty of interesting and tense moments. This book is full of action, historical turmoil and bloody violence that is sure to keep you reading and I can't wait for the next instalment.

4.0 out of 5 stars A historical novel with a twist
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 5, 2018
This is a highly entertaining adventure story which mixes history and fantasy. The premise of a knight who is part vampire is well handled and has a clever twist on the normal vampire stories which keeps it fresh. The historical side is solid and although this story focuses partly around the myth of Robin Hood it is the rich detail of this period of King John's reign which I liked best. All this though is background to a cracking adventure story with well drawn and likeable if flawed characters. A jolly good read and I look forward to the next instalment in the series.

As a fan of the vampire genre i enjoyed this different take on the subject. Blending historical events with fantasy make the whole tale believable, to a point. Highly enjoyable and easy to digest,
