In the midst of the chaos, Brad learns that his Agency contact and partner, Kate Falcone, has gone missing before she could deliver the evidence of treason she carried. With millions of lives at stake, finding her cannot be his first priority, but he searches as he goes.
Then an old enemy shares a poisonous gift as they flee from battle: the Cadre doesn’t have Kate Falcone. They know who does, however, and the hints they give Brad lead him to the one place he thought he would never make war…

- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2018I received a free digital advanced reader's copy in exchange for my unbiased review. Then I bought the book, after reading it.
And my cash is pretty tight right now.
I say all that to say this: I recommend this book as both a good and entertaining read and the sort that is smart enough to make you a slightly better person.
This was such a captivating read that I plowed through it in a day and a half, after I took care of class work. Yeah, I stayed up a little late. I tend to get hooked by these stories.
I think you should go back and start at book one, but I also think they have written a book you could enjoy as a stand alone.
I don't want to spoil any of the plot for you, but I like how some of the surprises in this book are in the world building despite us already being four books into a series that I have already really appreciated for making a single star system seem big despite so much sci-fi that makes whole groups of worlds seem uninteresting.
Anyway, I've been looking forward to another book, and I'm very glad to have read it!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 26, 2018Good book folks. Lots of action and intrigue... and a definite twist at the end of the story. I wonder if it's true or a setup?
- Reviewed in the United States on September 8, 2023But don't just turn to the last couple of chapters. The ride getting there is epic. Madrid and his assorted cohorts have incredible adventures and experiences. You've come this far don't cheat yourself of a stellar ride.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 23, 2018A lot of things come out of the shadows in this exciting story. There's hand to hand combat and tense action from Venus to Jupiter to Earth. A big space battle. And spies. Lots of spies.
And at the very end, a twist. I didn't see it coming.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 21, 2018Another fun read by Terry Mixon & Glynn Stewart, full of the twists, turns and surprises that you’d expect from these authors. The adventures of Brad Madrid and the Vikings continue from contract to contract with common threads mixed in: the Cadre, tense fights, loss and more hidden motives than the number of known players. How can you know who to trust when you don’t know who all the players are and can only guess at their motives? Another great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2019Fast paced, lots of action, some minor character development a cookie cutter space opera. The MC's catch phrase should be "I should have known better!" He literally says it all the time. The protagonists of the book seem to have tremendously good luck almost to the point of precognition. The good guys do win some battles, it just seems like they are always losing the war.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2018I have followed these excellent authors books for years, and while their co-authored worried is not better than the both of of them it is a fleet equal if not better than either of them. A plot within a plot, and no one, even the plotters know the full plot save one. Our hero hates pirates, ever since they killed his family. Now all is called into question as who the enemy really is...
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2022Think the headline of my review pretty much says it all.
While Brad still a Commodore of the Viking Mercenary Company, e's also an agent of the Common Wealth Investagation Agency ., he worked towards to finally find the Phoenix of the Cadry. Secrets are revealed, blood shed, lives destroyed, Honor Kept and traitors recognized.
Definitely deserve the rating I'm leaving.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Yet!
All of the series has been good, but this is the best yet - plenty of action while always time for plot progression. Can't tell who writes what which is always a good sign of a co-authored book.
