Virtually Yummy: Recipes that Inspire Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 118 ratings

The recipes in this book come from different sources: some of them are treasured family recipes, some were garnered from our travels around the world, and others—inspired by the adventures of our characters and by their culinary feats.

Join us for a taste of hearty Rutabega soup, Mexican delicacies such as Mole Source, Berry Salsa and Mexican Omelet, French pastries such as Tart Tatin, and Indian deserts such as Mango Phirni. No matter where these recipes come from, we find them not only delicious but also inspiring. We hope you will too.

Our characters love eating and they love to cook. Often, they do it together. They come from our multi-author series, High-Tech Crime Solvers, centered around the fantastic new promise of high technology and the endless possibilities for crime that technology offers, in a world where getting away with murder can be not only plausible, but easy…if you just know how.

To enjoy Virtually Yummy, no high-tech skills are needed. Whip it up and be inspired!

This is a collection of recipes, and excerpts, from some of my fav authors. Best way for me to find great food is to let me read a quick story too! This is the most awesome cookbook format I’ve seen! Add to the awesomeness it’s short and free. Try some berry sauce, a Mexican Omlette, or Homemade Bean Chili, and you’ll thank me!

This book has recipes that were from families or obtained from travels around the world by 8 authors. I must admit that I love to cook and am always on the search for new ones. And, the ingredients must be readily available and more importantly the east of preparation is a must. I also prefere those recipes that have few ingredients.

In this book, recipes are indeed varied and include some of the following: Berry Salsa, Micah's Hearty Homemade Chili, Super Quick Pantry Chili, Mexican Omelet, Rutabaga Soup. Pad Thai Noodles with Chicken and Shrimp, Apple Cobbler, Cheesecake Filled Strawberries, Tart Tatin anda Salty Dog.

For each recipe the ingredients are listed first and then the instructions. One thing I appreciated is that the temperature for baking is listed in both F and C. An added bonus for some readers, for sure.

The ones I selected to make at some point are: Rutabaga Soup, Mexican Omelet, Apple Cobbler and also Cheesecake Filled Strawberries. The Pad Thai Noodles with Chicken and Shrimp sounds delicious but am wondering how it would taste if the shrimp were frozen instead of fresh...? That is one disadvantage to living in Vermont...fresh seafood is difficult to obtain...So, that recipe is a maybe for me.

After each recipe is presented, there is a short excerpt from a book. That will give the reader a 'taste' of what the author has written.

All in all, a recipe for everyone, I believer. Looking forward to making some of these soon.

    Most highly recommended.

I guess that if anything is true, I have learned that cooking is not easy for a person like me. I didn't learn how to cook growing up, I always was outside working with my dad. My head under the hood of a big rig and fetching tools. My brothers hated working with him, and I was the only one that loved it. I did learn how to fend for myself with cars and almost anything else. My dad always said that it was good to be a girl, but that girl needed to know how to be self-sufficient. Well, I definitely am that, thanks to him. Oh, and he always made me wear gloves to that I would still have soft hands WITHOUT grease under the nails!!! LOL That being said I have collected cookbooks so that I can fix anything that I want. I love having the digital ones, they don't take up any space. Also having a small family now that the kids and grandkids are grown, having a cookbook is the only way to go in making smaller portions.

The various authors of the High-Tech Crime Solvers series – Uvi Poznansky, Robert I. Katz, Edwin Dasso, P.D. Workman, Jacquie Biggar, Casi McLean, Barbara Ebel, and Libby Fischer Hellman – have entertained us with their Virtually Lace/Undead/Harmless/Dead, Timeless, etc stories in which culinary foci are integral parts of their stories. Now they bring us to the table (or, to the kitchen then table!) with a range of recipes that reflect moments in their books.

The variety of foods outlined is wide – soups, tarts, dips, omelets, main dishes, deserts from the many locales around the world where their stories take flight. The recipes are offered with skill – ingredients, preparation, how to serve – and accompanying each recipe is an excerpt form the story referenced.

This is both a fine recipe book as well as an appetizer to stimulate searching for each of the novels represented. Tasty indeed! Grady Harp, May 20

VIRTUALLY YUMMY: Recipes that Inspire is a deliciously different kind of book! What makes this recipe book unique is that it contains excerpts by the authors of the High-Tech Crime Solvers series: Uvi Poznansky, Robert I. Katz, Edwin Dasso, P.D. Workman, Jacquie Biggar, Casi McLean, Barbara Ebel, and Libby Fischer Hellman.

The recipes come from their travels around the world, treasured family recipes and even from the adventures of their own characters! It’s a very clever concept and there’s something for everybody here from soups and tarts to main dishes and desserts.

They say variety is the spice of life, so there’s plenty of tasty treasures to be found in this quick, enjoyable and easy read. As well as the other authors, I’m a big fan of Uvi Poznansky so it’s five stars from me.

I couldn't stand the mess how random excerpts were thrown into a recipe book. It's not a format I desire. The recipes are poorly organized and I discovered that here and there ingredients weren't listed.
