About the authors
I grew up on Long Island, in a pleasant, suburban town about 30 miles from New York City. I loved to read from a very early age and graduated from Columbia in 1974 with a degree in English. Not encouraged by the job prospects for English majors at the time, I went on to medical school at Northwestern, where in addition to my medical degree, I acquired a life-long love of deep dish pizza. I did a residency in Anesthesiology at Columbia Presbyterian and spent most of my career at Stony Brook, where I ultimately attained the academic rank of Professor and Vice-Chairman for Administration, Department of Anesthesiology.
When I was a child, I generally read five or more books per week, and even then, I had a dim sense that I could do at least as well as many of the stories that I was reading. Finally, around 1985, with a job and a family and my first personal computer, I began writing. I quickly discovered that it was not as easy as I had imagined, and like most beginning writers, it took me many years to produce a publishable work of fiction. My first novel, Edward Maret: A Novel of the Future, came out in 2001. It won the ASA Literary Prize for 2001 and received excellent reviews from Science Fiction Chronicle, InfinityPlus, Scavenger’s Newsletter and many others.
My agent at the time urged me to write mysteries, as mysteries are supposed to have a larger readership and be easier to publish than science fiction. Since I have read almost as many mysteries as science fiction and fantasy, and since I enjoy them just as much, I had no objection to this plan. The Kurtz and Barent mystery series, Surgical Risk, The Anatomy Lesson and Seizure followed between 2002 and 2009. Reviewers have compared them favorably to Patricia Cornwell and Robin Cook and they’ve received positive reviews from The Midwest Book Review, Mystery Review Magazine, Ellery Queen’s Mystery Magazine, Lady M’s Mystery International, Mystery Scene Magazine, Library Journal and many others.
In 2014, I published a science fiction short story, “To the Ends of the Earth in the Deep Blue Sea” on Kindle for Amazon. Since then, I have made all of my previously published novels available for purchase on Kindle and now, in June, 2017 I am about to embark on a new venture. I will be publishing new novels on Kindle, the first of which is entitled The Cannibal’s Feast. It’s a science fiction story of corporate warfare in space. The next, coming out in early 2018, will be another science fiction novel tentatively entitled The City of Dust, a tale set on an abandoned world after the collapse of the First Interstellar Empire of Mankind.

Barbara Ebel is an award-winning and USA Today Bestselling Author who sprinkles credible medicine into the background of her medical suspense novels. Since she is a physician and specialized in Anesthesiology, her operating room scenes shine. However, her vivid characters and plots take center stage.
She has penned two medical suspense series, a separate medical novel, and five children’s books about her therapy dog.
“Doctor Barbara’s” Dr. Annabel Tilson series includes six books (which can each stand alone), and is based on a female medical sleuth who promises exciting times on the wards as well as in her personal life. Two books in the series have won awards: Death Grip, the 4th book, won the 2018 NIEA award (National Indie Excellence Award), and Deadly Delusions won the 2017 Kindle Book Awards Semi-Finalist for thrillers.
Her first series, the Dr. Danny Tilson novels, takes place in Tennessee and is based on a neurosurgeon who has his hands full in the O.R. as well as in his personal life due to a female villainess, a favorite character of readers (who have a love-hate relationship with her). Dr. Danny’s third book, Collateral Circulation, was the 2015 National Indie Excellence Awards Finalist for Medical Thrillers. Operation Neurosurgeon, the first book in the series, was the top finalist for best-selling medical mystery books in 2012. - Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2020This book has recipes that were from families or obtained from travels around the world by 8 authors. I must admit that I love to cook and am always on the search for new ones. And, the ingredients must be readily available and more importantly the east of preparation is a must. I also prefere those recipes that have few ingredients.
In this book, recipes are indeed varied and include some of the following: Berry Salsa, Micah's Hearty Homemade Chili, Super Quick Pantry Chili, Mexican Omelet, Rutabaga Soup. Pad Thai Noodles with Chicken and Shrimp, Apple Cobbler, Cheesecake Filled Strawberries, Tart Tatin anda Salty Dog.
For each recipe the ingredients are listed first and then the instructions. One thing I appreciated is that the temperature for baking is listed in both F and C. An added bonus for some readers, for sure.
The ones I selected to make at some point are: Rutabaga Soup, Mexican Omelet, Apple Cobbler and also Cheesecake Filled Strawberries. The Pad Thai Noodles with Chicken and Shrimp sounds delicious but am wondering how it would taste if the shrimp were frozen instead of fresh...? That is one disadvantage to living in Vermont...fresh seafood is difficult to obtain...So, that recipe is a maybe for me.
After each recipe is presented, there is a short excerpt from a book. That will give the reader a 'taste' of what the author has written.
All in all, a recipe for everyone, I believer. Looking forward to making some of these soon.
Most highly recommended.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2021I guess that if anything is true, I have learned that cooking is not easy for a person like me. I didn't learn how to cook growing up, I always was outside working with my dad. My head under the hood of a big rig and fetching tools. My brothers hated working with him, and I was the only one that loved it. I did learn how to fend for myself with cars and almost anything else. My dad always said that it was good to be a girl, but that girl needed to know how to be self-sufficient. Well, I definitely am that, thanks to him. Oh, and he always made me wear gloves to that I would still have soft hands WITHOUT grease under the nails!!! LOL That being said I have collected cookbooks so that I can fix anything that I want. I love having the digital ones, they don't take up any space. Also having a small family now that the kids and grandkids are grown, having a cookbook is the only way to go in making smaller portions.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 15, 2020The various authors of the High-Tech Crime Solvers series – Uvi Poznansky, Robert I. Katz, Edwin Dasso, P.D. Workman, Jacquie Biggar, Casi McLean, Barbara Ebel, and Libby Fischer Hellman – have entertained us with their Virtually Lace/Undead/Harmless/Dead, Timeless, etc stories in which culinary foci are integral parts of their stories. Now they bring us to the table (or, to the kitchen then table!) with a range of recipes that reflect moments in their books.
The variety of foods outlined is wide – soups, tarts, dips, omelets, main dishes, deserts from the many locales around the world where their stories take flight. The recipes are offered with skill – ingredients, preparation, how to serve – and accompanying each recipe is an excerpt form the story referenced.
This is both a fine recipe book as well as an appetizer to stimulate searching for each of the novels represented. Tasty indeed! Grady Harp, May 20
- Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2020VIRTUALLY YUMMY: Recipes that Inspire is a deliciously different kind of book! What makes this recipe book unique is that it contains excerpts by the authors of the High-Tech Crime Solvers series: Uvi Poznansky, Robert I. Katz, Edwin Dasso, P.D. Workman, Jacquie Biggar, Casi McLean, Barbara Ebel, and Libby Fischer Hellman.
The recipes come from their travels around the world, treasured family recipes and even from the adventures of their own characters! It’s a very clever concept and there’s something for everybody here from soups and tarts to main dishes and desserts.
They say variety is the spice of life, so there’s plenty of tasty treasures to be found in this quick, enjoyable and easy read. As well as the other authors, I’m a big fan of Uvi Poznansky so it’s five stars from me.
