Chris Sinclair fades under a dark cloud after losing his mother to cancer. On the cusp of adulthood, he doesn’t know where he should go or how to get there. But watching life pass him by was never the plan, and when he is forced to attend a concert in an attempt to coax him out of his shell, he discovers that life might have more to offer.

Dante Heron holds the audience between his delicate bow and the tips of his fingers. He plays the violin as if every heart is his to command, but the discipline needed to perfect his skills has left him with nothing to spare. He’s a fire that burns too bright or not at all—unpredictable and demanding.

When Chris is unexpectedly offered a job to travel around Europe as Dante’s assistant, or ‘friend’, he surprises himself by accepting. Their journey barely starts before Chris realizes he’s in over his head. Every step along the way is fraught with tension, and the farther they go, the closer they veer to a breaking point.

Invisible strings are at play, stitched into Dante’s life by those who should have taught him how to love. Perhaps Chris is right to be afraid, but sometimes, what you fear the most is what you can’t afford to lose.

About the Author

Raised in one of the cold corners of the world, Avylinn spends her days either wrapped up in a blanket or basking in the precious sunlight. When she can’t choose herself, she’s holed up in an office working with climate research that has little to do with the worlds and characters she creates in her vivid dreams.

Always the emotional one, she has found her outlet in writing, voicing thoughts, emotions and fears through her characters that feel very much alive to her. And, what began as a hobby soon took more and more time in her life until she realized that she had left her old life behind and entered a new one where her emotions turned into a super power—ready to launch at her poor readers.

She recharges with the help of coffee, cinnamon buns, popcorn and occasionally a healthier alternative.

I enjoyed the plot of this story lots of twist and turns. These two needed to talk to each other so they wasn't any miscommunication between them.

This is one of my all time favorite books. The romance is a unique one of a kind whirl wind. I love the complex and deeply personal characters! I have reread this book at least three times and it’s just as entertaining and beautifully sweeping as the first time i read it. I highly suggest to anyone

I liked this book very much. I have a few issues with it, but the things I liked about it surpassed majorly the one that I didn’t. I also loved the cover, it was beautiful.

The plot was very good. I liked seen how Chris manage to adapt to whatever needs Dante had. I also love the support system he had. It wasn’t hard to imagine him as a great person considering how much the people who liked him were willing to sacrifice in terms to make things better for him. Lara was a nice example of that and, even though sometimes she made me so mad, and it was a little hard for me to like her. The pace was a little slow, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.

What a liked the most about the book was Dante, he was a captivating character, so intriguing. We don’t get to see his point of view, which I think, add to the mystery. I would love to know so much more about him, but I think the book was better because he remain in the dark. There wasn’t a thing about him I didn’t like. It was very hard to understand him, which keep me guessing all the time.

Chris was ok, but I didn’t liked him nearly as much as Dante. I don’t really know what I had against him but I did liked how beautiful couple he made with Dante. I seemed to me like the key to my enjoyment of the book was Dante. I struggle with it a little when he was off page. The romantic part of the story was lovely and so much alike what I seek in a book, slow and believable. I loved the sweet moments they share, although they were too few.

A thing I dislike was Adam’s presence. I didn’t feel it was relevant and it bother me a bit. He was a sweet character and I would love to know him, but his presence here seemed a bit forced.

Overall it was a nice book. It was the first book I’d read from the author but I’m sure it won’t be the last. It was lovely.

Winter is a wonderful story teller. Could not put this book down. Can't wait to read the next book in this series. A prodigy violinist and a sweet young man tasked to keep things from getting out of hand. They form a bond but it gets complicated as things don't always go well. A trip through Europe with several concerts is amazing but feelings get ruffled. Thankfully good things happen toward the end. Wonderful story.

    sweet moment

Yes, I've read it one sitting and it was good, but somewhere along the way I lost interest. I was SO excited to solve the puzzle that Dante was. I even thought he had some problems growing up, I even thought he might have ADHD or something close to it. He was so hard to read. He just went from super friendly and sweet to super hard to handle in a blink of an eye, mood swings and all.
The slow burn started to become unbearable at some point and I had a hard time deciding if he was just a brat or he was having trouble. I asked myself if he wasn't all there. He had many one night stands and I was afraid he might never change. I hate it when there's miscommunication between the main characters. So much trouble for nothing actually. If they just talked and sort it our it would have been so much better.
Dante changed so much. Too fast for me. At least that is how I felt. He opened up all of the sudden... he stood up to his parents and it just wasn't a believable ending. I wanted so much more.
Again a book with such a high rating wasn't at all what I expected. Just not my cup of tea.

This book had me pulled in long before its release, the blurb I had read gave me an idea what to expect but not the how torn open I would feel once I had the chance to read it.

Everything about Dante and Chris is simply raw and crackling with tension, as they shouldn't fit together but they do. With every word not said and touched held back. It's all so vulnerable.

Their first meeting sparking something more even before they both realised it, Chris so oblivious to what game Dante is playing, but unable to not be drawn in by it.

I loved Lara and Tom and their obvious care for Dante and growing affection towards Chris, though their expectations of him, to react as a adult to the emotions he was battling, when he was far from it. It made want to shake Lara.

I loved every moment of this book, it made me laugh and cry and everything in between.

I spent the majority of the book thinking Dante was a spoiled prodigy whom was coddled so that he would play his violin. Even when he and Chris really started to kind of develop a friendship, I still held onto that opinion. When he completely devastated Chris when they needed each other the most, my heart broke and I cried so hard.

It wasn't until the later part of the book that I finally really understood him, and what an amazing story Avylinn Winter created. It was deep, emotion, and so tension filled that I couldn't help connecting with Dante and Chris.

Chris and Dante were wonderfully written characters, both complex and weighed down with fears and insecurities. Their journey to their happy ending was plagued with missteps and hurtful silences with no words to bridge the distance between them. I loved every angst ridden minute of it.

Now.....I don't usually read a lot of books where the MC's are young.....But....This one I made an exception for...I love my older guys.....or an older guy and younger guy but Dante and Chris were both young beautiful but confusing.......Chris was discovering himself, I don't even know if he realised he was gay...He was a confused young man thrown into an adult world when he toured with Dante........Now Dante I took awhile to get used to him....He didn't open up but seriously when his parents came along I think I understood a bit more...But they should have talked to each other....They should use communication then those months apart wouldn't have happened....This is a new author and I really like her writing style.....It was easy to read and although there was no sex scenes (third book in a row for me now) it still kept you reading....I liked the bit we saw of Adam and knowing his books coming up next has got me tense...I love my Gabriel characters but i'm guessing I'm not going to like this one......A great read that keeps you on your toes x

I loved the beginning, it pulls you into the and makes you feel like you are watching each scene right before your eyes. However, I realised that towards the ending it felt a bit rushed and was hard to read without sighting a few mistakes. A four star is perfect for rating. I would definitely recommend it for reading when all hope for love is lost.
