Once again, Mary D. Brooks proves that she masters the art of writing emotion. Her unique narrative voice never wavers, her elegant writing style is flawless, and her talent for writing smart, flowing dialogue is extraordinary - Rosa Alonso / Amazon
The characters, the landscape, the depth of emotion, it's just the sort of book that stays with you long after you've put it down. Excellent writing, impressive attention to historical detail, and strong characters that are easy to invest in make this a story to read again and again. - Cat Jones / Amazon
WSL crafts an intriguing story that will keep you turning pages as quickly as you can, but it also gives you a more in-depth portrayal of its main players. You get a better insight into Eva whose quiet presence is hiding many secrets. Zoe is a fun and impulsive addiction -- both for Eva and for us as readers.. KT Jorgensen / Amazon

About the authors
Mary is an award-winning author from Australia with a literary career spanning five decades. She began by crafting short stories about the antics of neighborhood misfits, which found their way into various Australian and U.S. magazines. Along the way, she ventured into non-fiction, but it was her deep-rooted passion for history—particularly the courageous women of the Greek Resistance during World War II—that inspired her to explore their stories through fiction.
Her debut full-length novel, In the Blood of the Greeks, was released in 2001 alongside the short story You Must Remember This, published under the title Out of Darkness.
Since then, Mary has received multiple accolades for her historical fiction, romance, and urban fantasy works. One of the proudest moments of her career came when In the Blood of the Greeks—along with its companion non-fiction volume, In the Blood of the Greeks: The Illustrated Companion—was chosen by the Jewish Museum of Greece for its collection on the Holocaust in Greece during World War II.
Mary has won multiple awards for her historical fiction, romance, and urban fantasy novels. She lives in Australia and has been writing for fifty years, beginning with short stories about the antics of neighborhood misfits. She's written short fiction stories for various Australian and US magazines and some non-fiction articles. It wasn't until 2000 that she realized she wanted to delve into World War II and women of the resistance. Her first full-length novel, "In The Blood of the Greeks" was published in 2001 together with the short story "You Must Remember This" under the title "Out of Darkness." One book led to another and her characters haven't shut since then!

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written historical fiction book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great WWII movie, or better yet a mini TV series. To be continued. A very easy rating of 5 stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars A beautiful love story and authentic portrait of F/F relationship in late 1940's.
This is the story of Eva and Zoe, situated in Australia in aftermath of WW2.
Eva is a German, victim of terrible diversion therapy performed by his stepfather's brother. And the reason for this therapy was her sexual orientation, because nothing could disgust and make her Nazi stepfather more angry than Eva being a lesbian. And rather than letting her go or disowning her, he keeps punishing her and making her life hell, especially after her mother dies.
Zoe is a Greek, first hired to help Eva when her stepfather as a high rank army officer was assigned to Greece. Eva's stepfather was responsible for killing Zoe's parents and to revenge, Zoe was determined to kill Eva. But she didn't. Instead she fell in love with her.
Mary D. Brooks has written strong characters, independent females that are determined to be together and overcome all the obstacles that life throws at them. And despite the horrors of their past, they are very hopeful of the future and what may come. Beautiful story and characters in every sense.
Where Shadows Linger can be read as stand-alone. So no worries if you haven't read the first one in the series.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2015I have been following the story of this timeless romance between Eva and Zoe for several years now. One of my favorite things about this series is that it combines historical fiction, lesbian fiction and several other genres to make an intriguing series worthy of keeping me up nights. I also love that author Mary D. Brooks has made improvements on her series, with several of these books now in their 3rd edition.
"Where the Shadows Linger" is the 2nd book in the "Intertwined Souls" series and takes place in the aftermath of World War II, which is where the two met on opposite sides of the conflict. They have fallen in love and are looking to make a life together. As such, they have decided to make a move to Australia together. While moving can be a great way to make a new start, we also often take our problems with us as the two quickly find out. They do make new friends but Eva continues to struggle with a difficult past. Also living as a lesbian couple in that day and age wasn't without its difficulties and prejudices, which they come into contact with as well.
I loved this second installment and continuing the journey with these two. The historical elements seemed very accurate to me and I enjoy learning about history while being entertained by an epic tale at the same time. The relationship between Eva and Zoe illustrates some real issues, marred with strong emotion that hit home for me and I am anxious to keep reading these amazing books to find out what happens next. Great read.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 24, 2016I am thoroughly enjoying this series. The second book leaves us with a sense of happiness for Zoe and Eva after having struggled with the lost of family and friends back in Greece. They are now settled in Australia and the book takes a turn at tackling not just the after effects of war but the prejudices and discrimination that is, sadly, the weakness of human behaviour. Zoe and Eva along with the friends that they are meeting are engaging and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't put it down.
Couldn't read it fast enough. My favourite of the series so far. Twist after twist - just didn't see them coming. No matter what is thrown at Eva and Zoe, they work to overcome it together. I love the little cricket reference thrown in there also. Can't wait to start the next one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Read Book 1 and leave it there!
This series started out well and got sillier and sillier. Had I not bought them at the same time I would have given them up after about a quarter of book 2 - but having paid for them I was determined to finish and to be honest I am cross with myself for doing so when I could have been watching the grass grow, or the paint dry!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a corker read
The 2nd in the series, I rolled right over into it from the 1st and I'm already deep into the 3rd. They just keep getting better. Anyone into historic romance wont go wrong getting into this series.... The series moves from Greece during the horrors of German occupation of WW2 to the migrant experience in Australia in the 50's (so far). The vile treatment of jews and homosexuals is a theme that weaves through the unlikely love found by Zoe and Eva. Don't heskitate

5.0 out of 5 stars New beginnings
...and new friends. Zoe and Eva emigrate to Australia and start new lives, learning about a new culture. They face their last, and come out on top. A beautiful story continues.
