Waiting for Forever: A Small Town Single Dad Romance (Hope Valley Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 2,708 ratings

After a bitter divorce had left him jaded and cynical, Leo Drake thought he was done. To him, love and happiness were myths. Then the shy, sweet, coffee shop owner looked up at him with those big gray eyes and beautiful smile, and he was done for.

Danika Parrish had been the nerdy girl growing up. The girl who sat in her window, watching the boy across the street, and secretly longing for the day when he might notice her. When that day finally came, she was convinced all her dreams had come true. But after giving her everything she’d ever hoped for, he’d ripped it all away with a handful of words.

Leo’s made a lot of mistakes in his life, but the one he regrets most is hurting Danika. For the first time in his life, he knows what it feels like to love someone, to truly be happy, and he’ll do whatever it takes to win her back. He’s determined to prove to her that he’s worth a second chance. That he’s the forever she’s been waiting all her life for.

Born and raised around Houston, Jessica is a self proclaimed caffeine addict, connoisseur of inexpensive wine, and the worst driver in the state of Texas. In addition to being all of these things, she’s first and foremost a wife and mom.

Growing up, she shared her mom and grandmother’s love of reading. But where they leaned toward murder mysteries, Jessica was obsessed with all things romance.

4.5 Stars!! A delightful treat from beginning to end!
4.5 Stars Danika Parrish is the girl next door who has been harboring a crush on her gorgeous neighbor since the day she first laid eyes on him. Leo Drake was popular, athletic and he never noticed his shy neighbor who always watched him from her bedroom window with hearts in her eyes. But years have passed and Dani's schoolgirl crush is a thing of the past... until the boy she loved from afar for all those years returns home to Hope Valley, newly unattached and all of a sudden very interested in the sweet and and easy going Dani... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Waiting for Forever was a charming story of unrequited, young love finally getting its chance to flourish and shine. Danika and Leo were complete opposite personalities while growing up. But when they reconnect later in life, the quiet and shy girl Leo never noticed in high school is suddenly the only person he can think about. And while Dani had the most devastating crush on Leo as a young girl, she can barely fathom the remote possibility that a charismatic guy like him would be interested in a former nerd like her... Danika is the sweet and shy baker who owns the most popular coffee shop in Hope Valley. People rave about her sweets, and she has made a great life for herself in her home town. And while she still has the slightest crush on her former neighbor, Dani has decided to move on with her life and her longing for something that is never going to happen. Until Leo let's her know just how mistaken she has been about the feelings he has for her... Leo is recently divorced from his extremely bitter ex-wife who has a colorful history of manipulation and bullying. Along with two children that he cherishes, Leo has decided that it is time for him to finally find the happiness he deserves in his personal life, and Dani is just the woman he would love to spend some time with... if only she will give him the chance he's been waiting for... This book was a delightful treat from beginning to end! From lighthearted and entertaining to it's tear inducing moments as well, this story delivered a sexy and fun story wrapped up in an engaging and unputdownable package. Dani and Leo connect on a deeper level when meeting as adults, but when the intricacies of divorce, kids and life in Hope Valley intrude on their burgeoning romance, their attraction and easy companionship might just prove to not be enough... The Hope Valley series delivers one fantastic read after another, and I absolutely love every visit and new relationship that comes out of this adorable town! And while I have adored every story from this fabulous series, I think Danika and Leo just might be my new favorite reigning Hope Valley couple! I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

The ‘Hope Valley’ series is one of my favourite series. I really love the world the author Jessica Prince created here, with protective, alpha men and sassy or shy women. ‘Waiting for forever’ is the eighth book in the series and a great addiction.

This story is about 36 year old Leo Drake and 34 year old Danika Parrish (or Dani like her friends call her). Drake is a police detective, divorced and has two children, 15 year old Hardin and 12 year old Macie. He loves his children very much and misses them the week they spend with their mother. He and his ex-wife Whitney were high school sweethearts but marriage wasn’t good. There were lots of arguments and tensions. So Leo decided to end it, something his son is still angry about.

Danika is the proud owner of Muffin Top, a coffee shop where the most delicious cakes and sweets are sold. Danika takes pride in her business and works long hours to bake everything her customers love. As a result, she has little time for a social life. But the truth is that there’s only one man that makes her heart beat faster and that is the handsome Leo.

Danika was seven years old when Leo and his parents became her new neighbors. Danika’s favorite pastime growing up was watching Leo from her bedroom window. Unfortunately, Leo never noticed her in all the years they lived there. And Danika accepted a long time ago that Leo will never notice her. But she’s wrong, because in recent months Leo has noticed the shy but friendly Danika! He even tried to talk to her but Danika shuns him. But then one evening he gets lucky and can spend a few hours in her company. And with the help for his daughter, he gets to know Danika better and the better he gets to know her, the more he falls for her. Leo isn’t the only one, his children also like Danika very much. Secretly, Danika and Leo start a relationship, Leo wants to make sure that this is forever before he tells his kids but they find out and he (wrongly) blames Danika. Danika is deeply hurt by this. When Leo discover his mistake, he faces the difficult task of convincing Danika to give him a second chance. Can Danika trust him not to break her heart a second time?

I loved Danika and Leo! Leo was just like the other men in the other stories, an alpha, protective, possessive guy. Danika was a shy woman with a soft heart, who loved to bake. She was lucky that she could turn her hobby into her job. She deserved to be loved and I was so happy when Leo finally noticed her. It was so cute to seeing how shy she was around him, how he had to try his best to make conversation with her. He was patient and charming. They were a great couple together.
His marriage to Whitney was very unhappy and difficult. There weren’t many happy moments and he wants to protect himself and his kids from this happening in a new relationship. That’s why, Leo was very careful with his feelings and wanted to keep his relationship with Danika a secret. I could understand that although everyone could see that Danika was nothing like his ex-wife. His ex-wife was a bully, very unkind, she fussed all the time and there wasn’t anything nice or warm in her. When the miscommunication between Leo and Danika occurred, Leo was harsh in words. He hurt Danika deeply. But later you felt that he realized that he had gone too far and he was very sorry. He really tried his best to show Danika his feelings, and not just her, but everyone around. Danika took the time to forgive him and I’m glad she did.

The story was told from both POV’s and there were sex scenes in the story. Leo’s children Hardin and Macie were wonderful. I loved them very much. Hardin was just like his father, protective of the people he loved, he was hurt by the divorce and took it out on his father, but he was a good kid. He was honest and ultimately he was also very protective of Danika. Macie was such a sweetheart. She had a smile for everyone, she was kind and also loved to bake. Danika was so good to Macie and Hardin. She was patient, gentle and made them feel good. I really loved the interaction between her and Hardin and Macie. Danika’s parents and Leo’s father were great characters too. Supportive and funny at times.

Just like in the other books in the series, we saw many familiar faces in the story. There were emotional scenes and funny scenes.

    I really enjoyed this story.

This book reminded me a little of the first book in this series, Out of my League, with the way Danika pinned after Leo. Her love for Leo was very reminiscent of Eden’s love for Lincoln. Danika fell for Leo at 7 but Leo never noticed her until he’d been divorced and returned to town.

I both loved and hated Leo. He allowed his ex to cause some serious harm to his kids and his relationship with Danika, but he did end up redeeming himself. He was a great protector and a great dad, it just took almost losing the love of his life to realize the error in his ways.

I loved Danika. She may have been shy and quiet, but she knew what she wanted and how she should be treated. I loved her budding relationship with Leo’s kids and her mama bear protectiveness of them. I loved that her love for his kids showed Leo what he had been missing with his ex.

This was not my favorite book in this series, but I still enjoyed it. There was a lot of OW drama with Leo’s ex, and that turned me off a little. The writing was still excellent and the town and its citizens were great, as I’ve come to expect from Jessica Prince. I’m interested to see where the unsolved murder takes this series next.

This book got me out of my reading slump!! I have read all the books before this one and put the series down to read a different sub-genre but when the slump hit, I knew where to go. Jessica Prince’s books have always held a special place in my heart because she just writes the perfect love stories and I knew I could count on them getting me out of my rut. I absolutely loved Leo and Dani! The nerdy shy girl getting the popular quarterback from high school? Yes please! Dani is my kind of girl! And I was rooting for her the whole book! So glad she got the man and her dream🥹

    High praise for this one!
I honestly have been digging single dad romances lately and this one did not disappoint.
The MMC and FML were fire, I loved the plot line and the OW drama and the betrayal and grovel, it was all chefs kiss.
    Well earned HEA.

Athica Lane is one of my favorite books, I reread it every year, I own a copy. This book reminds me of Athica Lane. The baking, the honey/sweet nicknames, the rude ex-wife and her drama, the two kids, “you give me sweet, your brand of sweetness”, the way he talked, etc.
There was a lot of detail to read, I need dialogue, not unnecessary backstory and thoughts of every single character.
But the story was cool, he raised some good kids. Getting trapped twice is crazy.

How often does happiness and hurt go hand in hand . This seemed to happen to Danika the lovely woman running the local bake house, and she had a crush on Leo the boy over the road since she was seven , unfortunately she was the nerdy girl who other girls bullied, the worse being Leo's girlfriend who was to become his wife. Danika had never forgotten Leo then he came back to town now divorced but with 2 children. Leo noticed Danika and had been told she had a crush on him, he was hoping that was true cos it wasn't one sided, however he didn't remember her from school. Throw in a bitter ex-wife and drama soon comes calling. When things go south with Leo and the hurtful things he said to her I was glad Damika held firm and let Leo know how she felt. This was a lovely read alongside Leo ,his father and his kids were great alongside Danika's band of women friends and her parents. Leo didn't know what happiness in a relationship looked like and when he found it , threw it away in a fit of temper. Great read need to read how the rest of the gang got together

I love the Hope Valley series. And in this book the author didn't disappoint. I couldn't put it down from the start . Dani is such a sweet woman and Leo is so hot and funny.
These two both deserve a HEA. Dani has been enamored with Leo since she was little but he was oblivious to her presence. He didn't really notice her till he tried hitting on Tessa the heroine from the previous book. After a disasterous marriage he was ready for some love and happiness. Dani is just the girl to give that to him but with a crazy ex wife that's sole mission to make his life miserable and teenage boy that's wrongly influenced by his mum their road to happiness won't be an easy one. God it was an emotional book you feel for Dani for being bullied as a teenager, you feel for young Leo and adult Leo for his sufferings and his kids for having such a mean mum. Read it you won't be disappointed

This was a super sweet story full of drama (mostly OW), love, awesome kids, a cute dog and baking.

This story is full of every emotion and Dani is one of my most favorite FMCs. She is sweet, caring and nurturing, never deceitful, mean or cruel, but she is definitely not a doormat.

She demands what she deserves and sets you straight without being mean, despite the other person’s doing or hurtfulness.

She never loses those traits, despite what life or people throw at her.

The way she, Leo and the kids grew together as a family was beautiful to witness.

It’s an amazing story full of awesome characters, main as side, in an adorable small town full of laughter, tears, drama and love. Just like life is.

    Spanish & English Opinion

Me encantó.

Fui fan. Leo es mejor versión de sí mismo con ella, y su historia es linda. “Unrequited love” devuelto de la mejor manera.

🇺🇸 Loved the story. I like that he had to fight for her to accept him back. I love his kids, the grandparents and the in-laws but my favorite is Danika.

She’s a perfect heroine. She’s sweet but nice. She’s genuinely a good person and her emotional intelligence is gigantic. I admired her and loved that she was no doormat. The fact that even when life was not nice, she didn’t loose her essence was my favorite thing.
