Waiting for Her: A Second Chance Sports Romance Kindle Edition
He was patient, kind, loving and everything he always promised me he would be.
But when a secret comes out threatens to change my world, I let it change me .
I pushed away the best thing in my life because I was weak and scared.
I ran away from him. From the love he was freely giving me.
My second chance to win him back was just handed to me on a silver platter.
And I won't take no for an answer.
I once believed Bri Jameson was the love of my life.
I thought we would stand the test of time.
Prove all those cynics wrong who don't believe in first loves lasting.
But I was the one left looking like a fool.
She left me behind as if she never cared for me and I can't trust she won't do it again.
So why is my entire being still aching for her?
Why does it feel like my heart has always been waiting for her?
Waiting for Her is an emotional standalone second chance different kind of sports romance. Bri and Grady may have been high school sweethearts, but their story is far from typical.

About the author

From the Ground Up was Jennifer’s first published novel and now that she was bitten by the writing bug, has no intention of ever stopping. Jennifer makes her home in small town Iowa with her high school sweetheart, three beautiful, hilarious and amazing kids, one crazy Jack Russell terrier. This is where her love for all things reading, baking, and cooking happen. Jennifer’s family enjoys camping, boating, and spending time outside as much as possible. You'll be her best friend if you can make her laugh and follow up with asking her what to read next. When she’s not writing, you can find her cheering the loudest at her kids’ sporting events (read as: embarrassing them), sipping coffee or iced tea out of a mason jar with her Kindle in her lap or binging on Netflix.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2018I just loved Waiting For Her!! It is a friends to lovers, super swoony and romantic second chance story.
Grady and Bri were best friends then high school sweethearts until Bri disappeared.
Bri got scared. She went through SO much and felt like she was going to break. She just didn’t trust that love alone could be strong enough to get them through the difficulties.
“I was always waiting.
Waiting for her to come back.
Waiting for her to come to her senses.
Waiting for her to love me enough to fight.”
Grady is such a strong character. He not only survives all the tough that life can throw at him, he uses all of it to make himself a better person.
These main characters are introduced in previous books, but the story is a complete standalone. Waiting For Her is the first book I’ve read by this author, but will definitely not be the last.

- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2020This story pulls you in from the beginning, back to high school football days. This is a second chance romance, the best kind. Grady and Bri go from friends to lovers and then losers. Thank goodness this story has a happy ending!!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 6, 2024Second chances have to be one of my favorite tropes. Grady was devastated when Bri left him, just a shell of himself. Little did he know that Bri leaving him almost killed her. When Grady was upset and angry, he was also kind and understanding and while Bri was remorseful, she was also courageous . Great read/listen.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 12, 2018Bri Jameson and Grady Ryan were always “that couple”. The childhood friends who grew to be high school sweethearts and promised to be so much more. The couple that everyone around them just “knew” would be together forever. Their connection … their bond … was simply undeniable.
That's who they'd always been as background characters in the three novels preceding Waiting For Her by Jennifer Van Wyk.
That was six years ago though, and since Bri broke up with Grady with barely a word of explanation, they haven't spoken a word to each other. Six years of life leading each of them in directions they never imagined as a young couple, directions they never could have predicted or planned for, changing so much about their hopes and dreams, and about who they are as people. Directions that ultimately lead them back to each other.
Despite the wear and tear of six years apart, one thing that remains unaffected is the connection they share, but is that enough?
With this book, Jennifer takes everything that had been established about Bri and Grady and turns it upside down, taking the perfect couple and turning them into the perfect tragedy, with betrayal and hurt ever widening the chasm between them, as two people inexorably linked through family friendships have somehow managed to keep their distance and their secrets.
I remember thinking somewhere near the start of this book, that Jennifer would be hard pressed to explain away those six years in a way that made Bri's choice to stay away believable, and wondered if, when I finally got to that part, I'd find it to be contrived and trite. As I kept reading though, those thoughts were washed away as layer upon layer of revelation made each step of the journey one of both discovery and empathy, and each moment of understanding one of not just healing and forgiveness, but triumph. Both the triumph of the human spirit over adversity, but equally the triumph of love over fear and despair.
I kind of loved it.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 10, 2018Grady has done some amazing things in his life, one of the hardest was living without his true love the last 6 years. Bri has become a writer for a sports magazine, and when she gets assigned to do a story on her ex boyfriend she is not sure how that will go. At first it made me sad to see that 6 years had gone by for them. I have read the prior books in this series and have seen some of Grady and Bri’s relationship. I was also feeling a little angry with Bri for her choice that affected so many. I loved kind of seeing the things that had taken place during that time to bring them where they are today. This book had a me laughing, had me sad and a bit angry, but also had me swooning and made my heart happy. This was a wonderful book and I loved going on their journey with Grady and Bdo.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 3, 2018I enjoyed the story. It was a little simplistic with very little angst, but you couldn't help but root for Grady and Bri. On my end it was especially Grady I was rooting to get his HEA he was genuinely a good guy who obviously never stopped loving Bri. That is not to say I didn't like Bri too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely
Bri and Grady's story went from strong to shattered to a shakey second start. There are lots of questions to be answered , feelings to be addressed and hearts to mend! Great second chance story!
