I published my first novel in 2014; that was the first part of the Tales of a Modern Woman trilogy where I uncover the motivations and actions of a young woman searching for her place in the world. In Search of My Perfect Life is a novel about a modern woman born with an expectation of equality. Faking It is a romantic suspense novel about industrial espionage set in London and Surrey.

My novellas focus on life throwing a curve ball. Walking Back Toward Myself tells the story of Christina, who rediscovers her true self when her job, home and marriage crumble beneath her. Like Father, Like Son is a romantic intrigue and explores the effect of Cupid playing tricks on people who are already hiding secrets from their partners. The Secret of Contentment is a romantic intrigue that explores the reverberations and revelations that ripple into many people's lives when a secret is uncovered.

My latest book is a contemporary novella with a supernatural twist called Son of the Furrows.

I have also written Crumbs from the Bread of Life - a collection of short stories and poetry - and The Sisterhood Illusion - a play that throws the spotlight on how women both support and use each other in the guise of friendship.

Be it saga or suspense, crime or family drama, I'm a sucker for a love story and you'll find someone in my books will always have a happy ending.

Walking Back Toward Myself is a sweet romance by Jane Sleight.

When Chrissy Roper’s life unravels, she sets off on a journey of healing and rediscovery. She finds herself in the company of two men—both who have suffered unbearable loss and heartache. There she finds purpose, as well as glimmers of her younger self.

I’ll admit that I rarely read novellas. Generally, I like to spend time with the characters and become invested in their lives. But that being said, I enjoyed the characters in Walking Back Toward Myself. I found the heroine to be well developed, and I definitely felt her pain of loss and her need to find a place to belong. The heroes, Gabe and Hugh, were less developed, but equally enjoyable. I especially liked Hugh and found myself warming up to him by mid-story and seeing past his curmudgeonly veneer. By the end, I was cheering him on, hoping he’d come out of his grief and see the woman in Chrissy.

The plot is basic but fast-paced and easily dragged me into the story.

When the story started, I was a little afraid. Afraid because what was portrayed was a life that was very strange to me, very unfamiliar, and I simply could not connect with the main character. Luckily, that was the point, she was quickly dragged out of that life, and into another one full of new people and new possibilities. I quite enjoyed reading about life on the farm, and how the B&B got restored to its former glory.

I do have two suggestions: 1, delete the last sentence from the book description. It’s an unnecessary spoiler, that refers to something that happens almost at the very end of the book. Knowing what will happen that far in the book makes a less interesting read. 2, this is more like an observation… the book cover does not seem to have anything to do with the book. I found it very misleading.

These are only small things though, that the majority of the people won’t even notice. Overall I found the story well written, and it kept me reading on. I give the book 4 and a half points.

I received a review copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

A cracking good story. Kept me hooked right up to the end. It was interesting to accompany Christina on her journey from devoted wife, abandoned by her husband, to a different part of the country where she gets involved in new relationships and a new venture and rediscovers her former strengths and where her destiny lies. It was tantalising to read and find out how her relationships with Gabe and Hugh turn out. Highly recommend.

I felt connected to all the main characters and really enjoyed the unfolding of their individual stories and the development of their relationships with each other. I was left feeling hungry as the writing communicates a love of good food and the preparation thereof creating a sense of homely comfort from the simple things in life. A sweet story providing the perfect accompaniment to a lazy autumn afternoon indoors.
