About the author

Kandi Steiner is a USA Today and #1 Amazon Bestselling Author living in Tennessee. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.
An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. Her love for writing started at the ripe age of 10, and in 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.”
She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a hopeless romantic and found herself bursting at the seams with love stories she was eager to tell.
When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, planning her next adventure, or pole dancing (yes, you read that right). She enjoys live music, traveling, hiking, yoga, spending quality time with her family (fur babies included) and soaking up the sweetness of life.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 26, 2022Kandi Steiner has taken the much-loved age-gap romance and kicked it up a knotch by bringing in two caveats. First up is the woman is the older adult in this slow-burn, medical romance. Second up is the male is her son's best friend!
After an abusive marriage, which has left Amanda Parks feeling less than desireable and less worthy of love and happiness. When she ends up in the ER looking up into the eyes of her son's childhood best friend, her fog-filled mind voices aloud her memories of his hotness. Dr. Weston very likely will never live that down with the nurses.
Greg has always held a torch for Amanda but circumstance kept them apart. Now that she is available, he can't stop thinking about her and the possibilities, now matter how many red flags are flapping in the breeze.
Washed Up has the signature signs that author Kandi Steiner is know for. She has written a slow-burn romance with an immense amount of sexual chemistry, tension, and restraint. Greg and Amanda don't just fall into lust and into bed. They have a journey to follow and a new relationship to build.
I was very impressed with how this story acknowledged the issues that can come with age-gap relationships, not just between the couple but with everyone else who is involved. Greg and Amanda are very careful to take those feelings into account before succumbing to the magnetic draw they have toward each other.
Life after divorce from her abusive, alcoholic husband has been hard for Amanda. Greg has seen the aftermath and what makes me swoon for him the most is his concern and determination to show Amanda that she is more than her ex made her believe. Greg brings out the best in Amanda making her the best version of herself. They are each other's person and their story made me smile.

- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2025Greg had a thing for his best friends mom at 18…years later he’s a doctor and she shows up in the ER after a major car accident and all those feels rush back in. Not a typical age gap romance book, she is older but not that much older and he is wise beyond his years. The spice between these two is sweet, a little steamy and very loving. Their HEA has a sweetness to it and makes me wanting more of their story.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 5, 2021I absolutely loved this swoony hero, but the whole book is about the age gap, and that's just tedious after awhile. This series starter kicks things off with a forbidden romance that's VERY slow burning, angsty, and almost laidback. It's Kandi taken down a notch - yes, there's angst and drama, but I didn't feel the same level of tension that I usually do while reading her books, which is usually what grips me. Maybe that's because our hero is smitten from the start, or maybe it's because the same topic was discussed again and again and again. I liked some parts of this a whole lot and it introduces the characters from the next three books in a way that makes me want to read them, but I found the focus on the "we can't do this" storyline to be exhausting.
The story follows Amanda, a 47-year-old woman (and grandmother) who has finally left her abusive husband. Amanda got pregnant at 15 and became a mom before she was ever an adult, and she made excuses for her husband's alcoholism and abuse for years. When Amanda gets into a car accident, she comes face-to-face with a blast from the past - her son's childhood best friend, Greg. He's no longer the cute teenager that she once knew; Greg is now a 34-year-old, hot doctor... and he seems to want her. Greg had a crush on Amanda in his teens, and he knows all about her troubled history - which just makes him want her even more. But Amanda is just learning to live by herself (she's not even divorced yet), and starting up something between them would be trouble for everyone involved.
Greg is easily the best part of this book - I loved him the whole way through. It's so refreshing to read about a successful, steady, and sexy guy who is ready and willing to start a relationship. There's a great friends to lovers dynamic here with an undercurrent of more, and I think I could've loved the whole book with some tweaks. First, there's just way too much focus on the age difference. There are only so many times you can bring it up before it gets repetitive and boring. It also didn't help that the slow burn was soooo slow, with barely any sexual tension until late in the book. Amanda is also really unsure of herself, and I just didn't like how she strings Greg along - yes, there is some OM drama. Ultimately, I'm not sure this was the best book to kick off the series, but I'm definitely interested in checking out the others. I'm curious about all of the other characters, and it does a great job teasing the relationships in those.

Kandi Steiner, where have you been all my book loving life?
As hard as it is to believe, this was my first Kandi Steiner romance. It popped up as a Book Recommendation from Amazon and had me as soon as I realized it was a reverse age gap
romance.
Thanks to Washed Up, I have my 2022 New Year’s resolution - read all the Kandi Steiner books!
Greg and Amanda’s forbidden romance touched my heart. There is so much going on in this book - my emotions were all over the place. It was hard, sometimes sad, but always beautiful. I couldn’t read it fast enough.
I’m giving this amazing book the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful forbidden age-gap romance!
If you know me at all, then you know that I will read every single Kandi Steiner book on the planet because I’m a big fan. And when she announced the Bayside Heroes series with three other amazing authors, I jumped at the chance to read an ARC of the first book. You can read all four books—Washed Up by Kandi Steiner, Screwed Up by Harloe Rae, Fired Up by KK Allen and Tangled Up by Tia Lourise—as standalones, but it’s good to read all of them in order because there’s mentions of all the characters across each book (or at least I’m assuming since we got to meet the gang in book one).
Washed Up is a deliciously forbidden romance with an amazing age gap and falling in love with your best friend’s mother. I knew, going into this, that Kandi would handle the relationship and the topics and the tension with style and care, so I walked into this story blindly and fell head over heels in love with Amanda and Greg.
When an accident sends Amanda to the hospital, she encounters Greg for the first time in years. As the anesthesiologist, he helps Amanda get comfortable before she’s taken in for surgery and all of their history comes flooding back. See, Amanda and Greg shared one incredible kiss many years ago when Greg was 18 and best friends with David, Amanda’s son. Greg’s never forgotten that kiss or the woman he pined for all those years ago, but he also never expected to run into her in his hospital of all places. And for Amanda, seeing Greg again is a shock to the system and she’s thrown by how handsome and grown up he is. After all, he’s now 34 and no longer a teenager hanging around her house.
Amanda and Greg have an incredibly slow and totally delicious burn of a relationship. I like that despite how desperately they wanted each other, they didn’t rush into anything for various reasons—David and Greg reconnecting after all these years, Amanda going through the final stages of her divorce, the age gap, to name a few. However, they do form a bond of sorts. Greg suggests they be ‘accountability partners’ to ensure that both of them live their lives, get out and do things they wanted to do, but haven’t done yet. I loved this concept and how it builds their friendship and relationship, because it really adds another layer to who they are as people and gives you insight into the little things that will make a difference in their lives.
I adored Amanda. Even when she was berating herself and not seeing herself the way others do, Amanda was a strong character. She stayed married to an abusive man for so many years and fought through the chaos to finally file for divorce. And even when her ex tries to play hardball, Amanda fights back and takes what she wants. She’s also such an incredible mother—the scenes she has with David are great and funny—but Amanda is, at the heart of it all, a fantastic heroine. She’s driven and passionate, she’s lived a lonely life, but that doesn’t stop her from trying to experience everything that she can. Even in the face of adversity and struggle, Amanda pushed through to the top and that is absolutely commendable.
While low on angst, Washed Up will make you tear up a little because of everything that Amanda feels and goes through. But in true Kandi Steiner form, the story is lovely and deep, making it easy for you to connect with these characters, their journey and the love they have for each other. And we also get little hints of the characters and pairings in the next few books and I gotta say, I am very excited to see what Dane and Larsen get upto in Screwed Up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Emotional
Firstly I think I read this out of order but honestly I don't care. This book was emotionally addictive. I literally couldn't put this down and nor did I want to. This was also the first book I've read from this author and I can tell you this, I will be going back for more. I highly recommend this story. A journey of self discovery after heartbreak and abuse. A journey of realising you're worth the fight and of course a journey of finding that one great love ❤️ I urge everyone to go ahead and get comfy, settle in and get ready for a book you'll want to re-read over and over again and just to prove my point I read this on Kindle and now I'm purchasing the paperback because this story is to great not to have on my shelf ❤️
