About the author

Born and raised in the county town of Dorchester, Dorset, Sim began scribbling away stories on scraps of paper since before he can remember. He spent a lot of his childhood on adventures walking the dogs in the woodland surrounding Thomas Hardy's cottage with his family. Something about the cottage and 'the man what wrote stuff' who had lived there sparked a fire inside him, it was from there he began to focus on writing more seriously. In 2012, Sim signed up to Open University to study Creative Writing alongside working full time. He isn't quite sure how he made it out alive, but he graduated with honours and began using the skills he had acquired to edit and redraft old work.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 5, 2021I love a supernatural detective story turned romance as much as the next person. But this book raised the standards for this genre. It’s refreshing to read such a complex novel that reads extremely easy. Harper is such a relatable character with the idea of not fitting in and wanting to find the place she’s meant to be. Sim’s writing allows you to really step into Harper’s character so you’re able to feel what she feels and envision the world she lives in - not many authors, let alone new authors, completely succeed at this. So major kudos! By the time you get to the halfway point, good luck putting this book down. I couldn’t stop flipping pages until there weren’t anymore to flip. I cannot wait until Return to Denver Falls is released and for more of Sim’s writing to unfold.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great, fast paced read.
Not my usual thing, but so well written and atmospheric that I got drawn in after the first few pages. This is a spooky, Y.A. romance mash up of the highest order.
Something is going on in Denver falls. There’s a missing girl and another one on a mission to find the truth about what really happened years ago.
Harper is an orphan, with a feeling that there’s more to her life than she’s been told. She thinks Denver Falls might hold the answers. As soon as she arrives in the town, weird things start to happen. People don’t want her around, poking her nose in, but she stays anyway.
She sees strange people everywhere, who are they, these shadowy folk who appear and disappear seemingly at will? And what lurks in the forest around the town?
There are secrets from the past to uncover, spooky goings on abound. The story races to a conclusion. And you won’t expect the twists it takes.
It’s played out by a great cast of realistic teenagers. And has a story that pulses with energy. What more could you want?
At the end, there’s a sample of the second book in what might be a series. I’m really looking forward to that one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Twisty Supernatural Tale
A quick read with a lot crammed in, Welcome To Denver Falls kicks off when 17-year-old Harper takes a road trip to a town she’s been researching. It was once the place of multiple murders, with the suspect seemingly disappearing into the surrounding woods. Harper believes she can help bring fresh leads to the investigation, but the Sheriff isn’t keen on her help. Neither are some of the townsfolk, who begin to follow her. Harper finds friends, too, and becomes close to fellow-teen Kendra, who works at the local bookstore, and Gideon, a boy their age who seems to only appear at night. With Gideon hiding a huge secret, and Harper discovering some truths about the horrific history of Denver Falls, this first book in the series plays all the right notes. There are enough answers and unresolved questions to complete this story but still keep you interested in what’s next for Harper. There are also some great reveals about Harper’s own dark past, family secrets, and what really ties her to Denver Falls. Highly recommended for fans of supernatural YA series.

5.0 out of 5 stars You will love this book!
Took me a while to get around to reviewing after I finished but my god what a book. You go in knowing nothing and come out still knowing nothing and yet understanding everything?? The last few chapters had me sitting there with my mouth open repeating "oh my god" the further into the horror I got. It gave me genuine chills.
The warm friendship between Harper and the residents of Denver Falls was a lovely contrast to the every growing horror in the background, as it lures you into feeling safe and secure only to make you realise that anything could happen at the drop of a hat.
In summary, absolutely loved it and I can't recommend it enough. I can't wait for part 2 and any more stories Sim comes out with!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great supernatural mystery
All 17 year old Harper wants to do is solve an eighteen year old mystery in a small town in the country. But she finds herself caught up in a supernatural mystery where ancient spirits of the native population, the imprint of the first European settlers and more recent tragedies combine. What will happen if she ignores all the advice to leave town and delves deeper? Who can she trust? And why did she feel drawn to the town in the first place? The scene set in 'The Willow' has been developed into a novel which will grab your attention from the start and drag you into the dark unknown.

I loved the adventure this book took me on. At one point I was so certain I knew exactly what was to come only to be completely stunned by the unfolding of the story and the intriguing characters!
A must read especially if you like books who leave you wanting more and desperate for the next one to come out.
