Then John’s abandoned car is found with blood on the steering wheel and Jane fears the worst. And there is a revelation that will make her question her own sanity.

Jane desperately begins investigating on her own. Suspects include her ex-husband, her stepbrother, and the mysterious blonde.

Is she being framed? Can she even trust herself?

HOW FAR WILL SHE GO TO SAVE HER FAMILY?

After reading the first chapter it was hard to put down. Something new happens in every chapter. Very interesting story.

I found this story to be really great throughout, up until around the last 20 pages. I enjoyed the wrap-up, but there’s a couple confusing moments because Jane (our first-person narrator) has a propensity for questioning her sanity; she is her own Gaslight. So there’s a moment where we’re finally getting all the answers, but there’s a weird diversion that breaks up the flow and creates a question mark around the truth. The moment moves on, but it cheapened the overall effect for me.

I’m still giving 4 stars because I felt like the author did a great job of weaving the story throughout and creating a nice pace. I had some theories as to what happened to the husband, but nothing was glaringly obvious from the beginning. I liked that there was suspicion around so many characters, including the husband, so it kept the story slightly off kilter (in a good way). I also really enjoyed the author’s vocabulary.

T.J. Brearton is DEFINITELY one of my very top favorite authors now that I've read a few of his books. I will be most likely be binge reading all of them for awhile.
    What a REMARKABLE storyteller!
I like the characters and the writing. I've found my bookreading groove again....where I can't wait to get home from work and get my house stuff done, so I can sit down and read one of his stories! Oh, and who needs sleep anyways? Lol.

A marriage, two children, father works out of the home, mother is a Nurse Practitioner. The father, John, is a moody writer of crime fiction. The mother, Jane, tells this story and is the one with an active imagination. They live in a small town In Upstate New York. The story is, of course, about John going missing. There are lots of characters and events, and few clues to what happened to John that kept me reading with interest. This author is a descriptive writer, whose books I thoroughly enjoy. I can only say this is my least favorite.

That is because I am letdown by not really knowing WHY everything happened. Twists and surprises, yes. WHY? No.

Her husband disappears. She calls the police and they start looking through the past and creating a lot of theories all involving some criminal activity. Did she kill him? How did her blood type show up in his car? Why did a successful writer only have $940 dollars in the bank? Why did he leave his cell phone behind? Why was his passport used to cross into Canada?
The more the police investigated, the worse her life became. It all started after an old school friend of his suddenly showed up.
The story has a few holes, but in general, it keeps moving forward and you can't help but feel for her. Her entire life is collapsing around her. No one believes the truth.
The end is riveting. A mysterious woman shows up. Who is she?

The lights behind them just kept getting brighter.
John Gable (husband/father, former alcoholic) tells Jane Gable (25, wife/mother, Nurse practitioner) he will get off at Exit 32.
3/23, Bruce Barnes (38+, John’s former HS classmate) was going to repave the driveway.
Bruce met Russ Gable (7, son/brother), Melody “Mel” Grace Gable (daughter/sister, pianist),
    Jane Gable (wife/mother, Colette’s great-niece, pianist), & John Gable (38, husband/step/father, author/writer).
Rainey (Bruce’s wife) had also been invited for dinner.
Why did Jane call Marty Spicer (John’s agent)?

State Trooper Morse (m) & State Trooper Gorski (f, VCI) arrived at Jane’s doorstep.
Russ (son) had seen Karen Dewitt over at the house when Jane was at work.
It seems Bruce Barnes does not exist.
Bruce’s abandoned Subaru had blood on the steering wheel.
3/27, Eve Sheppard Channel Five News reporter & the cameraman were parked outside Jane’s door.
Who later came to call on Jane?
    Will the mystery get unraveled?

I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one.

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written mystery book. It was extremely easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a huge description list of unique characters, settings, facts etc. to keep track of. This could also make another excellant mystery movie, or better yet a mini TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars.

Thank you for the free author (s); Joffe Books; Amazon Digital Services book.

The one most likely to have committed the crime is the one who reported it. If the victim is married it is most likely to be the spouse who killed him. The victim is not likely to be a stranger to the perpetrator. One of these statements is true, but the police are convinced the other two statements hold the answer. Each time a new clue is added, I found myself coming up with a new or changed theory. What a nightmare this would be to live through. How tightly it held my attention and interest. This book is for all those “figuring it out folks” like me.
