Where the Stars Fall: A second chance romance Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 239 ratings

How far would you go to protect the ones you love?

A successful architect with a promising career in London, Brian's world spins out of control when the man he always saw as a second father betrays him in the most unexpected way.

Left without closure, a year has passed and Brian is now more determined than ever to undo the harm done to the ones he loves most, his family. Even if that means riding the thin line between justice, revenge, and obsession...

Immersed in his resolve, finding love again was the last thing on his mind. Until fate steps in and a chance encounter changes everything.

Meeting Olivia again so unexpectedly, at his best friend's wedding, stirs up memories he had long ago put away. She'd been his first love, his kindred spirit – and the woman who left him without saying so much as a goodbye.

Which doesn't make him want her less. He knows it, the moment she locks her deep green eyes on his.

Even knowing it might be too late to repair what's been once broken, Brian refuses to lose her again and sets out to find a way back to her heart. But it's been more than ten years since their story was left unfinished.
Will they get one last chance to make things right? Or will Brian learn that sometimes justice comes at too high a price?

First of all, there is a prequel novella to this called Before Dawn which is told from Olivia’s point of view. I have not read it, but this in no way impacted my enjoyment of Free Falling.

Now, onto what I loved about this novel! I enjoyed Brian’s POV, although it was scatter-brained and all over the place, it made him much more realistic and vulnerable. But let me just say, poor Brian is a walking disaster! Every time things started looking hopeful for this man, he managed to find ways to screw everything up! He is definitely a character that as you are reading along you want to scream out, “don’t do that, it’s not going to end well!” I think he meant well and truly loved Olivia, but Lordy, he just didn’t think (most of the time).

I also loved Olivia’s character, although she certainly went through some mood swings as she and Brian reconnected! Like Brian, it was obvious she still had unresolved feelings, as well as, new feelings brewing within. However, she would go from playing it cool to being completely cryptic to being completely crazy, then back to normal again. The way Ana Simons wrote Olivia was absolutely perfect. Again, with this story being told from Brian’s POV, the way Olivia was characterized went along perfectly with the ongoing theme of how clueless men are when it comes to women!

Also, I have to mention Brian’s wonderful nephew, Josh. This boy adds numerous hilarious situations to this story with his “life questions” he asks his uncle. Prepare to laugh and be so very glad that you aren’t the one having to explain all of the questions this boy has whirling around in his head!

“Free Falling is funny, romantic, sexy, infuriating, confusing, but wonderful. I absolutely loved this couple and their story. My only complaint is that when I reached the end, I still wanted so much more from this couple. Thankfully, I saw that a follow-up novel is in the works that will allow me to see where life takes all of the wonderful characters in this novel. Don’t misunderstand, this is not a cliffhanger, but there is simply so much more that can happen with these characters and I’m waiting impatiently to find out what happens next!

After being betrayed by those he should have been able to trust has left Brian even more determined that any relationships that he should have with women should be short and casual. It sounded like a great plan until he sees Olivia, his first love and the woman who broke his heart a decade ago, at a wedding and all he wants are answers and a second chance.

Olivia’s romantic past since they were together has been painful as well and she is not certain that they are meant to have a second chance especially when the past keeps interrupting their present.

This is an emotional story about two people who have always belonged today who with maturity and their life experiences may finally have the happy ever after they both deserve. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

This was a drama-like romance. The story delves deeply into the thoughts and feelings of Brian which made him a much deeper character. Brian and Olivia had a lot of ups and downs in their relationship as the book progressed. The story is reflective of how most relationships are today. Both Olivia and Brian had a lot of trust issues as they address the past eleven years they have been apart. This story ended with a happy for now, but a sort of cliffhanger. To me, this story seemed wordy and it didn't seem to flow well. I felt a little lost in the beginning with following Brian with his friendships and relationships with his family. But again, most of the book was how Brian was feeling and what he was thinking. I would recommend this to those that like more depth and feelings in their characters and a little steam in their romance. I received a copy from ebook Discovery. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Through the majority of this 2nd time around love story, I was thoroughly convinced the author had to be male. There was so much thought-provoking introspection by the male character, Brian Anderson, that I felt a woman surely couldn't get into a man's mind like this. Successful architect, Brian had pondered for many years how the true and only love of his life, on the cusp of their burgeoning beginning, could just disappear from his life. Now, many years later, Olvia Burke walks back into his life and turns it upside down. Told entirely from Brian's perspective, we see that life truly has him free falling. He has a hilariously precocious nephew, Josh, who asks the most amazing things and takes it all in stride. But the couple eventually get to giving their love a go, with a few hiccups and bumps. Not quite a HEA, since it all continues in a second book. I plan to purchase that book because I love reading this whole relationship from Brian's perspective.

I received an ARC for this book. Olivia walked out on Brian ten years ago. They have never forgotten their feelings for one another. Brian has issues he is trying to deal with, his trusted mentor had let him down. Brian has worked hard to protect his family. When Olivia reenters his life, he is unsure what he wants to do. Will these two finally reunite? Will their love be enough to help them over the hurdles? I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to all.

Brian met the love of his life then lost her. Ten years later she is back, and forcing Brian to reevaluate his relationship disasters since Olivia left him. Brian and Olivia are just such great characters with flaws just like the rest of us you can’t help but connect with them.

The thing that sets this story apart from the pack is that it is told from the hero’s point of view. We see everything through his eyes.

Not only are the main characters fantastic, the rest of the supporting characters are just as good, and more often than not you are forced to laugh out loud at the uncomfortable questions children often ask. My personal favourite was… well you’ll just need to read it for yourself to find out.

This is a must read for anyone who believes in second chances.

5.0 out of 5 stars An unusual and very compelling tale of second chances.

Falling Home is a wonderfully written contemporary romance, that takes you on an emotional and heart warming journey. One where Brian and Olivia need to let go of the past in order to allow love into their forever. It's set in England and, apart from a couple of misplaced words, was very realistically done. (Diapers should have been nappies, 3rd Grade is Year 3 and apartment is flat but that's not bad given the books length.)

Not only is Ana Simons a new to me author, but I read this without even looking at the blurb, so I had absolutely no idea what to expect. What I found was a story of an undeniable love, a tale of not giving up hope, an account of learning to trust that when you fall, the other person will be there to catch you. This was very much a book that brings something new to the table and one that was refreshingly different, but good different.

One of the things that marks this out was that it is written entirely from the hero's POV. I've only read a couple of other contemporary romances that have used this process and one of my dislikes was how arrogant and 'cardboard' the male MC felt. That was very much NOT my experience in Falling Home. Brian felt so very human in his normally and confusion. There was no arrogance, only a genuinely nice man who was willing to fight for his love.

Olivia was more difficult to get a feel for, though overall I really liked her. I have to say that at one point I *almost* wondered why Brian bothered with her. Olivia almost seemed determined to continually sabotage and run away from him. However this needs to be balance with her just having left a toxic relationship. I do think I'd have felt even more sympathy for her if I'd heard her 'voice', but then I also loved the flow we got from just experiencing Brian's.

There are a handful of steamy scenes, though neither too graphic nor crude. Unless you strenuously object to any love scenes in a book then there really isn't anything in this to offend, other than the odd minor swear word. I'd happily recommend it to those that enjoy a captivating and well written contemporary romance. It is a story that draws you in and holds you, that combines simplicity and complexity so that you simply don't want to put the book down. Brian and Livia's story really is quite wonderful and special.

I'm in 2 minds regarding this tale. It's all to do with love, marriage & commitment, a common theme throughout the story. Brian was a bit washy washy for a male. I was a bit confused as to where we were at times & the numerous characters in it. It just didn't quite come together for me.
