Wicked Gods (Gifted Academy Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 4,367 ratings

Nowhere is safe when the gods are wicked.

Since the beginning of times, there have always been two sides: Norms and Idols. But never have the scales been so unbalanced as they are today. I’m a Norm, which means, I grew up in fear of the Idols and their godly powers.

And now, I’m going to be surrounded by them, day and night. I’ve been offered a place at the prestigious Gifted Academy, an opportunity very few Norms get. To survive, I must become invisible.

But my hope to get through the academy unscathed goes down the drain when the most powerful boys in school set their eyes on me. They hate me simply because I’m a Norm. If they knew who I truly am, they’d tear me apart limb by limb. But I’m done cowering away from Idols. It’s time for the Norms to fight back, and it all starts with me.

***3.5 Stars*** Okay, there were two things that didn't really make sense to me: 1. Daisy left her 14 year old sister alone to go this school. 2. When Daisy was tormented/teased/bullied she would either be a smart alert or she would rush away from the situation so they wouldn't see her cry. I just wish she would have owned it and moved on with her day.

So I really like this story line but there are 2 things though I wish we're a little bit better:
    1. World building - You are kind of thrown into the book to the book and not really given a lot of details or history of what's going on.
    2. Somewhat repetitive - since theres multiple POV's Some of the information is very repetitive and it's repeated it's repeated when she switches POV is. I think the only reason that's an issue is because it's repeated the same exact way between the POv's instead of differently.

    Spoilers below:

So the book opens up when young Daisy and young Rosie are at their house. You find out that their dad Work for the newspaper and he publishes an article that is very Upsetting to some people. You find out that hes been doing research and someone someone comes into the home and kills him and their mother. Someone saves her and Rosie and tells them to leave. Daisy was 10yrsold. Then jumps to 17 yrs old. Now Daisy is working at a local diner and you soon find out this book is based around God's. Demi God's. Fringes and Norms. You dont learn a ton about them but Gods seem to be like Zues for instance. Demigods are a bit less like Hercules. Fringes have some abilities like super strength xmen . Norms are just basically humans no powers. They have a level system. Stuff happens and Daisy makes it to a gifted school. Where she meets 4 guys guys 2 of them are brothers and you find out that they had some sort of Boat capsizing end up on an island situation 10 years ago where they met a God who told them that he wanted them to help them exterminate the world of frenches and norms. Well they aint really with it.

Then a whole bunch of stuff happens in this book. The story line is good but For me the world building is severely lacking and some of the choices that Daisy makes don't make a lot of sense.. Like she's at the school but she's talking about how she's not going to go to college or do anything else with her life but then she was talking about how she wasn't going to run away but then she was and it's kind of like what's the plan of her being at the school at all if she's just going to leave it just seems odd for her to even stay there and she's super laxed With really real important things. Like reading the book so she could figure out how to get Phoenix did not send her visions. She waited days if not weeks to read the book to finally figure out how to do that when she should have done that in the beginning

Once again a friend recommended a book that has me binge reading a series. This one is complete so a binge read is in order.

Daisy has been taking care of her sister Rose since they fled the night their parents were killed by Idols. She's been working at Poppy's Joint a diner in the Norm area of the city. She was looking forward to some good tips since her sister's broken arm had put them behind in the rent. Instead of lots of tips from the busy crowd, she ends up with a table of teenaged Idols, rich boys intent on causing havoc.

An accidental pie in the face causes an uproar, customers and waitresses Daisy and her friend Felicity flee. Daisy can't go home without the rent, so she stays with Felicity but she has a plan that includes sneaking out. She's going to try to get a job at Unearthly Desires, a strip club. It's the only way to come up with the money she needs.

What happens next is truly surprising as instead of actually finishing her time on stage she ends up pulled and offered a scholarship to the elite Gifted Academy. The school is exclusive and attended by high ranking Idols and Fringes.

With the added perk of an allowance Daisy joins the ranks, intending on keeping a low profile. She's also assigned a guide Toby, introduced as a low level Fringe. Unfortunately Daisy seems to be a trouble magnet with her snark.

The same boys who caused the trouble in Poppy's Joint attend this school and in an awkward twist of fate, her room is next door to them.

Bryce seems to be more friendly than the others, and offers a compromise when she asks for music to be turned down, noise cancelling headphones for the win. The other guys seem to be intent on causing her all kinds of headaches and embarrassments.

Most of the Idols pretty much want her gone, but Drusilla and her crew, Renata and Cherise are really over the top with that.

There's a lot going on with the guys as well as we get glimpses of their pasts. Of course Principal Fallon is Bryce and Rufio's mother so that's a real interesting situation.

There also appears to be several different factions of Idols. Those who want to take over, those who want a peaceful existance and the Knights who try to thwart the evil being done by the takeover guys.

I loved this book, with all the twists and turns on top of the guys starting to protect Daisy. There's definitely the start of a relationship there, especially with Bryce.

There's a cliffhanger, OMG ending which is why I'm very glad I can just jump into the next book.

I absolutely loved it. This is my first but definitely not the last book by Michelle that I'll read. Wicked God's is fast paced and loaded with sexual tension and angst. I swear those guys are just soooo hot

This is my very 1st paranormal series and to be honest I wasn't 100% sure if it was going to be my thing but my word was I wrong!!

This full book was amazing from the very 1st page till that last scene there was not a single chapter that didn't have you gripped needing to know what was going to happen next.

Can I just say that I think Daisy is an absolute legend, I love her and the way she carries herself because given what she has been through she hasn't gave up and always done what's best for her sister Rosie even when everything seemed to be against her.

I absolutely can't wait to see what happens next I am 100% hooked.

Definitely recommend you give this book a go, Michelle Hercules is an outstanding author her style of writing keeps you fully invested start to finish.

A great start to the series!
I enjoyed the supernatural high school drama; multiple love interests, jealousy, bullying etc. As well as, incorporation of sinister actions, secrets that added mystery to the novel.

Am excited to continue the series and see where it leads.

This is a paranormal monster meets science experiment romance series. Lauren has brought her own romantic twist to the classic Jekyll and Hyde story.

Our main characters Mitchell and Eden both have an alter ego that once out they have no control over. Mitchell has lived his whole life knowing about his other self and working to keep him locked up. Eden however, thinks she’s sleep walking and has no clue what’s going on, her other side leading her to Mitchell over and over again. Eden’s got a lot more going on then just her alter ego, like the reason she’s only now showing up and what triggered it. Or better yet what stopped it from happening before.

This series was a really fun read and I enjoyed the mystery and dynamic characters. It's well written in the third person, however that’s not really a style I enjoy. The story flowed really well and I liked the pace of the conflict. However the ending felt rushed, as though there were too many loose ends the author hadn’t yet addressed and had to wrap up and did so with a few small phrases at the end.

At first I didn’t realize it’s RH, but as I appreciate Michelle ‘s writing a lot, I gave her a chance - lol. All the events that lead Daisy to the academy and her stay there are fully eventful, a time to acquaintance and discovery, brightly written. And that cliffhanger...only makes me want to dive directly to the next volume.
