To my fellow monster lovers... run, don't walk, to pick up this book.

Anyone who's read Nyla's work knows that she thrives on the "weird", the unexpected, the underdog, and pushing the boundaries of what is conventionally seen as right and wrong, and this book holds true to that writing style. However, in Wicked Things she gives us 4 different monster/prn romances in 1. And for this to be her first foray into the genre, I'm seriously blown away. We have a grim reaper, a werewolf, a merman and a kraken, an alien race of clones, and in each story, the humans that have to come to terms with the unexpected love and attraction they feel for their creatures. Each story was unique, insanely entertaining and interesting, and the spice and romance was just top friggin tier.

Also have to point out 2 things this author does that I absolutely love; she gives a separate list of triggers/warnings at the beginning of each story, AND she gives a Notes From the Author section at the end of the book that details her thoughts and process for each story. I just adore the insight and appreciate how it allows me to connect to her stories even more.

WOW!…

To think this was Nyla’s first dip into paranormal/monster romance.. like wow! She did NOT disappoint! Not that I thought she would of course because she knows how to deliver the smut! 👏🏻👏🏻
I’m still shook though because man these stories were wild and wicked for sure! So let’s break this down real quick.

1: Scared to Death
Holy smokes who knew that death could be so delicious? Cause the things him and Ezekiel get up to are downright sinful! 😮‍💨
I love the little peek we get into Bel’s soul that shows he’s not as cut and dry as we first believe. The way he pushes Ezekiel and how that leads to the events that bring them to the end of their story says so much about him. (Well some way more than others lol) I was so not expecting to enjoy that quite the way I did but I’m not hating it either so we’re moving on to the next one.

2: Purr For Me
Well spank me and call me kitten! This one had me darn near drooling!! Dom/sub with a Daddy kink? Uhh yes please! But wait.. toss in a naughty bossy werewolf? Sold!
Hold your horses and prepare yourself for this one cause these two are dirty with a capital D! Purr knows exactly who he is and isn’t afraid to show most of what makes him Purr. 😸 Even knowing some of his little secrets going into it didn’t stop me from squealing a little every time he felt comfortable in his own skin because of it. He’s Purrfect just the way he is! 😉 Vlad and his commanding presence jumps off the page at you and you have no doubt who the boss is. He’d bark a command and even I felt myself wanting to obey because yessss daddy! And beneath all of that mysterious loner vibe the heart that’s there is so beautiful. These two together are sweet and scorching at the same time. Speaking of scorching… you’ll need a dip in the deep blue sea to cool off after this next story.

3: Wrecked
BISH - TENTACLES…. MF tentacles!! Need I say more??
I don’t but I will.
This was my favorite of the four novellas hands down! 🙌🏻 I have never read anything even remotely close to this before and I don’t know how spice can live up to these expectations from here forward… ruined. Nyla has ruined me! And I don’t even care! 🤣 This was the hottest darn thing I’ve ever read! And leave it to her to give us the good ole Nyla twist on DP. 💀🥵
I ate every single word of this sucker up and then went back and read it again. Not even ashamed cause when a book gives you the 🐱🦋 this one does it demands to be re read immediately! Yea it made finishing the book as whole take a little longer but #worthit
After going back in time to like the 1700s why not jump forward in time and see what the future holds in the last book?

4: The Creator’s Hands
REESE!! My guy!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣😭
He is my favorite thing of this whole story and that’s saying something cause it’s so good! I was really enjoying things in the beginning. Snicker (I love what Nyla did with the names in this one btw! Had me finishing with such a sweet tooth for real. 😆) is adorable and I had a feeling early on what was about to go down because of his engineering. I was not expecting Reese though! This guy came in and took me out! I was laughing so hard at one point I though my side was going to literally split in two! Between his witty comebacks, innocent slip ups about certain “self soothing” techniques (💀), and his cocky attitude I was rolling! The whole thing was so naughty and steamy it was already gold but the added humor made it the best way to end this ride of a book! *Also don’t judge me I totally teared up at one or two points in this story because ugh my heart! 🥹*

Whew! Ok. I’m sure there’s a lot more I could and want to say but my mind is still blown thanks to someone’s purple tentacles so I can’t think anymore than I already have. If you knew how long it took me to write just this much after finishing this book you wouldn’t even be reading this far you’d already be cracking open your copy of Wicked Things. 😂
No one writes quite like Nyla K - that’s a fact and if you didn’t believe it before this book proves it.
MF PHENOMENAL! And I hope we get more stories like this from her in the future. 😏

Didn't finish. I know it's a matter of opinion, but I found the writing to be intolerably cringey

I didn't like how the Angel of Death's inner monologue was like a sarcastic teenager. I couldn't imagine him as this powerful monster when his POV read like the diary of a high school emo kid. The prose throughout the story in general was amateur and juvenile, but it was particularly grating for what was supposed to be this ancient demonic being. I couldn't take him seriously or perceive him as a terrifying predator when he came across as a rebellious, edgy teen

Also there were practically 5 italicized words every single paragraph. It defeated the purpose of emphasizing certain words with italics when every other words was italicized. Same issue with the double question marks. Why did they always seem so shocked by things that were not particularly shocking?? Did so many questions require two questions marks??

The tone in general was all over the place. Parts of it were dark, heavy, somber. Other parts were tongue-in-cheek with an overuse of snarky comments that were just annoying to me. Instead of working together, the tones clashed with each other

I read this entire book (all four separate stories) in 2 days, that’s how excited I was to have the newest Nyla K book. I seriously couldn’t put it down! I was completely engrossed in every word, right from the first page!
Nyla is and always will be a must read author for me, and this book is a perfect example of why that is. She depicted a perfect balance of strengths and weaknesses within each of these characters, giving them all real life emotions, pains, heartaches and struggles. A truly fantastic job of making every character come alive on the page!
This entire collection was written with such deep tones and emotions embedded into every scene, but all the ache that accompanies each story leads to four incredible endings that leave the reader wanting more. I only just finished the book and I’m already missing it! 😩🥰 Although, I’ll be honest, any book Nyla K. writes will automatically be absolutely phenomenal! Hand down, No arguments allowed! 😏 If you disagree: The door is that way, you can see yourself out. 🤨😎
The soul-wrenching heartache, yearning, and (eventual) steamy passion throughout each story was truly breathtaking. You can vividly experience every intense moment and emotion in each word that Nyla writes. Honestly, like I mentioned above and will now say agin: she flawlessly depicted a perfect balance of emotional longing, self-discovery, and romantic devotion throughout each of the four separate romances.
I loved that all four stories were completely different but all equally thoughtful, detailed, and emotional. I immediately became attached to each and every main character that was presented. Not to mention, Nyla did a superb job of writing deep and impactful redemption arcs for certain characters that you initially want to despise but eventually end up loving (“cough, cough, Bel and Wreck, ahem…”). Truly incredible character development and expression!
Like I said before, I more than enjoyed every word of this book and couldn’t put it down from the second I received it. Each set of beautifully (not so) broken characters are hands down some of the best Nyla has written so far! “Wicked Things” has absolutely lived up to the utter perfection that usually encompasses her work. Even though this is a new sub-genre for her, she really pulled out all the stops and created a masterpiece here. True perfection! 👌🏻❤️
Long story short, Nyla K. did such a fantastic job with this novel. Love, love, love this book, and love, love, love this author! 😂👌🏻❤️ “Wicked Things” deserves all the stars and more! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

There isn’t anything Nyla K writes that is bad - just facts. This collection of short stories just reiterates this fact.

These were all so interesting and so perfect! There was interesting characters and story, vulnerability and openness and a butt ton of spicy goodness!

There are 4 stories.
We have Ezekiel and Bel, Ezekiel has lost his wife and is drinking himself to his grave but Bel the Angel of death won’t let him off that easily.

Purr and Vlad, the human with daddy issues and the werewolf who was just passing through and causing terror - and also the daddy Dom that Purr has been looking for his whole life.

Andros, Cane and Wreck - these were my favourite. Captain Andros shipwrecked on an island where he meets Cane the merman and eventually meets Wreck - the Kraken. Oooo the story and spice in this one was top notch.

Lastly Dr Bastien in an alien spin on Frankenstein with his alien creations - the Prometheans!

Go forth and read these stories folks, was so fun!

Each novella is captivating from beginning to end. I thought I would be able to chose a favourite story but I really can’t. They are all so unique. The characters are complex, interesting and likeable, even the angel of death.
So sexy!
Every story had me asking myself, “do I like this?!?” And yes, yes I do. Who knew that tentacles are so hot.
If you like mm and paranormal romance you will enjoy this book.
If you are a risk taker, you will love this book.
