Wild at Heart: A Novel Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 11,050 ratings

From the internationally best-selling author of The Simple Wild comes the continuation of a woman’s journey to Alaska and a life she never imagined for herself.

Calla Fletcher returns to Toronto a different person, struggling to find direction and still very much in love with the rugged bush pilot she left behind. When Jonah arrives on her doorstep with a proposition she can’t dismiss, she takes the leap and rushes back to Alaska to begin their exciting future together.
But Calla soon learns that even the best intentions can lead to broken promises, and that compromise comes with a hefty price—a log cabin in rural Alaska that feels as isolating as the western tundra. With Jonah gone more than he’s home, one neighbor who insists on transforming her into a true Alaskan, and another who seems more likely to shoot her than come to her aid, Calla grapples with forging her own path.
In a world with roaming wildlife that has her constantly watching over her shoulder and harsh conditions that stretch far beyond the cold, dark, winter months, just stepping outside her front door can be daunting. This is not the future Calla had in mind, leaving her to fear that perhaps she is doomed to follow in her mother’s fleeing footsteps after all.

I will admit the beginning of book 2 was slow and a bit boring thus, its half star from perfection. However, it picked up. Again it was funny, and endering. Sad at times and had some definite nail biting moments. It was also steamy and sexy. I like that the romance in this was detailed enough but not graphic and left some to the imagination. I love this world and the characters. I really like the new characters this book introduced us, especially Roy. This book has also opened my eyes to Alaska. I always joke that I'm too hot and I need to move to Alaska. After reading these books yeah, probably not. 🤣 📖📖📖📖 Calla Fletcher returns to Toronto a different person, struggling to find direction and still very much in love with the rugged bush pilot she left behind. In July of 2018, I read a book about a twenty-something risk analyst from Canada who picked up and went to Alaska to mend fences with her estranged father. There she met a wildly attractive bush pilot who turned out to be the biggest risk of her life. That book, The Simple Wild, immediately became my TOP FAVORITE READ of the year and one of my all-time favorite novels ever. It ended perfectly and beautifully but with so much possibility for where Jonah and Calla's story could go. I didn't know it then that KA Tucker would return to Alaska to bring us more of their love story, bring us on a new adventure with this couple and all the risks they'd yet to gamble on together. I didn't know it then but their story was far from over and this follow-up, Wild at Heart, would immediately become my new favorite of 2020 and another top favorite read EVER!!

I haven't read a book that gave me such wanderlust in quite some time. I haven't read a book in ages that had me setting it down just so I could talk about it with anyone who'd listen. I'm an indoor girl with a major aversion to winter and nature and I admittedly have zero survival skills. (Camping gives me hives.)  But this story, Calla's story, made me want to be brave and wild and fearless and I completely immersed myself in every bit of this adventurous risk right along with her. Her fears, her reluctance, her jealousy, her devotion, her loyalty, her kindness, her perseverance, her determination, her friendships, her romance, her longing... I WAS HERE FOR ALL OF IT.  I felt every bit of this journey right along with her, all the uncertainty and the solitude and the insecurity and the strength of will she exhibited, I felt it all and it made for the most PHENOMENAL reading experience.

The chemistry and raw devotion between Calla and Jonah is next level. To this day I tell everyone I know that The Simple Wild is one of the best books I've ever read. But still, I somehow forgot just how much these characters had woven themselves under my skin. As soon as I opened the first page, I was reminded of precisely why I was so desperate for more of their story and if I thought I loved them then, my love for them NOW is exponentially more profound. Their journey in this book is PERFECTION. I couldn't have dreamed up a better sequel, I couldn't have envisioned a more exciting, riveting, emotional romance than what KA Tucker delivers in Wild at Heart.

This story is beyond anything I can even say about it. There just aren't words. I loved every character, every bit of dialogue, every ounce of tension and strife and unspoken word. I loved getting lost in the Alaskan wild, in a cabin in the forest with a curmudgeon of a neighbor and a pushy, bullheaded local woman making demands. I loved the heartwrenching memories of another time, in another house that came full circle in this story. I loved the perfect amount of steam and the perfectly potent amount of angst that Tucker wove through such a blissfully romantic happily ever after. I loved the danger of Alaska and the danger of the skies and the palpable fear that gnawed at my insides through all of it. I loved the strangers who became friends and the friends who became family and the goat. I loved the goat. I loved every single thing on every single page of this book. The timing and pacing of this story, the dialogue and the sexy banter, the insecurities and the sheer romance set against such a wildly unforgiving backdrop. All of it was SUPERB. The Simple Wild was too good to be followed up by anything less that PERFECTION and KA Tucker KILLED it with Wild at Heart. If I read nothing else this year, I'll feel content because I had THIS story, I experienced THIS adventure. Wild at Heart is breathtakingly  remarkable and I will never, ever get over it.

This is a wonderful book 2 and beautifully compliments the first one. It picks up right from the end and we learn that Calla and Jonah are going to try and make a life together in Alaska.
From the start, Calla is nervous and doesn’t expect things to go well. She’s afraid to be by herself in the cabin, she’s afraid of guns and can’t shoot, she can’t drive. She’s throwing herself into making their charter plane business work but is that enough to keep her interested and wanting to stay in Alaska, especially when Jonah can be gone from sun up to sundown?
Jonah is worries that he’s not enough. That he won’t be able to support them, even though Calla is wealthy from receiving the proceeds from her dads charter business. He wants to fly but if Calla isn’t comfortable with being alone, he’s limited with the type of work he can accept.
This is a young couple trying to figure out how to start a life together in a new city, with a fledgling business and a cabin they’re trying to make a home. There are a lot of arguments, all understandable considering the circumstances. I enjoyed that while there were blow ups, they were written in such a way to be mature, apologize when appropriate and to really listen to what the other is saying.
The intimacy is not written about in any great detail (pretty much fade to black) but I wasn’t annoyed by it. The side characters were lovely and really added to the texture of the story. All around, an engaging story that will have you teary, pissed off and laughing in equal measure.

My favorite book a couple of years ago was The Simple Wild. It’s still a book I won’t ever forget and when the author decided to write a sequel, I couldn’t have been more happy. The author’s fans(me included)were and are ecstatic to read about the same characters from The Simple Wild. The story about a spoiled young woman that traveled from her home in Toronto to Alaska to reconnect with her terminally ill father and the rugged bush pilot she meets there was brilliantly told. Enemies to lovers turned into a passionate, but possibly doomed romance. Due to this being a true sequel, the action starts up just a few days after the end of book one. Because of this, the review will feature spoilers. Just a heads up.

Calla finally decides to move to Alaska to be with her love. No one could be less suited to living in rural Alaska, but that doesn’t take into account the love she has for her pilot, Jonah. If nothing else, she is determined. Jonah’s whole life is tied up in his inherited planes(from Calla’s father)and the new pilot service he is trying to build. The couple buy a house near a small village in the middle of nowhere. Jonah works long hours and is rarely home. Calla knew it was going to be this way so she works hard to keep her disappointment in check. To be honest, she had a lot more patience than I would have had. She throws herself into Alaskan life, meeting new quirky people, redecorating the house and dealing with wild animals as they breach the couple’s land. The couple’s journey through this wild land and everything they experience was a wonderful story and my favorite of this year so far.

Calla was a fashion blogger with a love of clothes and makeup when she met bearded Jonah. She brings designer clothes and boots to visit Alaska and would rather take a selfie than just about anything else. Alaska was a big wake up call for her in book one. Now, she has a better handle on all things Alaska, but has so much more to learn. Jonah was her father’s second in command at his pilot service. There were times I really didn’t like him in book one, but that all changed. I ended up adoring this couple and all their banter and eventual love. I still feel the same way now and even more so after this amazing story. I also really enjoyed all the quirky characters, some from book one, but mostly they were brand new ones. All of these characters were lovingly fleshed out by the author. No cookie cutter or one dimensional characters here.

It’s usually hard for me to love a sequel as much or more than the original book. In this case, Tucker has taken beloved characters, put them in a completely new circumstance and ended up making me enjoy this as much as the first one. I honestly can’t think of a thing I didn’t enjoy. There’s steamy scenes, but nothing hardcore, a little bit of suspense, lots of banter, fun times, new characters, old characters, and I don’t think I could have loved it more. I will be the first in line asking for another book. I guarantee that once you read these you will want to visit Alaska. And you will definitely love Calla and Jonah.

Amazing read suitable for adult contemporary romance or woman’s fiction readers. The Simple Wild should be read first or you will be completely lost. 5 huge stars!

I’m a die hard KA Tucker fan and love anything she writes. Wild at Heart is a sequel to the simple wild which I absolutely adored. I’m often wary of sequels, trilogy’s etc as I’ve read many and the second book never seems to capture the excitement of the first. This book does. Although the characters are familiar, the story is fresh and kept me turning pages long after I should have gone to bed. The reality of Callie and Jonah discovering their new life together and the obstacles they faced along the way was perfect. The descriptions made me feel like I was in Alaska. The new characters added depth and the growth of both main characters was beautiful. A perfect sequel. Love love love!!! Can not recommend enough!!
