Wild Card: A Secret Society-College Romance (Rake Forge University Series Book 1) Kindle Edition
The game has rules for a reason...
Rumors swirled around the Rake Forge University campus about a scandalous game played by none other than the Devil’s baseball team.
Honestly, I didn’t care.
Not my business, but when my editor takes away my chance to be featured in the senior showcase, and my little sister gets a mysterious playing card; a devious idea emerged.
I decided I’d sneak into the party, and scoop the story.
I would not get caught, definitely not seduced, and absolutely wouldn’t die.
That is until I was stopped and rendered totally speechless by a pair of mossy eyes, and a jawline so divine that I nearly melted into goo right in some stranger’s room.
He lured me in, close enough to feel the press of his mouth against my skin and the heat of his hands on my body. Undoubtedly, I was a sheep headed straight for the slaughter, which only proved true when he called my bluff.
With him holding all the cards for my future success, and to salvage what remained of my dream, I did the only thing I could.
I made a deal with a devil.
*While this book is very angsty, there is no cheating and it is cliffhanger free.*

- Reviewed in the United States on February 27, 2025Every little aspect of this book sucked me in so hard. I knew it was going to be amazing, because Ashley Muñoz couldn’t write a bad story even if she tried. But the absolute chaos of this book was wild. The back and forth had me yelling at the characters to just GET ON WITH IT and jump each others bones. The angst was so real. The miscommunication trope drives me absolutely bonkers but I’m a sucker for it every single time. Mallory & Decker were just meant to me, and nothing could ever stand in their way. I was so obsessed with Decker, and with Mallory, and all the other side characters. Now, I read Darling Mayhem first, and so I had quite a few spoilers already, but it didn’t take away from any of it at all. I want to punch quite a few people in this story, but hopefully they get what’s coming to them in the next book… which is already downloaded and ready to go 🤪
- Reviewed in the United States on July 14, 2024This story was good overall but kind of annoyed me with all the back and forth and non communication from the start.
I understand where Decker was coming from initially but once he really started to fall for her he should have opened up. But again he was scared and had been scarred physically and emotionally from a person he used to trust.
With this book entirely written from Mallory’s POV we don’t really get a look into his thought process until the tail end of this book when he lays his WILD CARD on the line for her.
That was a really sweet thing he did and it was a great grand gesture that gave her his truth, the story of a lifetime and a lifeline for her to her dream.
This ended on a very beautiful note and I really like the special thing Decker did at the end. I won’t spoil it here but what a great guy 🥰

- Reviewed in the United States on February 18, 2025The story plot isn’t too complicated. I really liked decker and Mallory’s chemistry when they were together. The back and forth and miscommunication, and half truth got really old. It happened most of the book. It made the plot lack substance in my opinion when it was the same thing over and over. Regardless it was a decent story.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 12, 2024This story is full of secrets, and the consequences of hiding them. I truly didn't expect the twist that brought about the h.e.a. It was a really good read.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 5, 2025Decker and Mallory are so good together. The story was sweet, spicy, and had great twists. I loved Decker's intensity. Mallory was strong and fierce hidden beneath shyness. I loved her growth in the story.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2024Quite the interesting affair we’ve got going on in this book! I don’t know if i really liked mallory that much as a person to be completely honest. Deckers iffy sometimes but i also appreciate him. My favorite character is lowkey Taylor tbh😭
- Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2021Wow this book blew me away from the start. I was quickly drawn to both Mallory and Decker. These two had so much chemistry and wow their first encounter was hot to say the least.
If your looking for a different kind of sports romance book I highly recommend grabbing this book. There are tons of twists to this book and lots of moving parts to follow. You definitely will have moments where you wanna scream at these characters and also moments that cheer them on and even feel their pain as the story goes on.
So if you want a steamy and intriguing storyline with amazing characters that bring tons of emotions this is the book to read. I can't wait for the next one since this kinda ends with a bit of a cliffhanger or more of the start of what will happen next for Taylor and Mallory by her side for her new journey.
This author did a phenomenal job of giving you both main and side characters with depth and complexity that draws you in and you definitely want more of their stories also. So here's to hoping for more Taylor, Juan, and maybe even Kyle. Definitely grab this book it's way more than just a sports romance or even the game being played, it has lies and secrets and obvious real love story in the making.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wild card
I loved how the storyline intertwined in so many lives and had a massive impact on all involved. For Decker a plot of revenge, a dream crush, and passion unfolds. Mallory a dream job, family comitments , a opportunity that changes everything and chemistry with her dream guy. Taylor's life gets played as a pawn and secrets and hurt are revealed. And Elias is out for his own rewards by any means necessary. This was a gripping first read and can not wait to read more.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's the best YA I've read in a while!
The story at the same time that is cliche (normal for YA), it's not cliche. At first I thought about stop reading, but persisted a bit and totally fell in love with the couple. I really, really loved the book!

3.0 out of 5 stars not enough story (spoilers)
The synopsis is odd in itself a college baseball team that also acts like a secret society. Have multiple card game nights throughout the year for the seniors to be apart of where they give girls a card with a number which denotes what base they’ll go to. The girls are blind folded and don’t know whos the ball player. Decker is trying to get revenge in a fellow player and tries to hijack his night with the home run contestant. In walks Mallory who is there in place of her stepsister Taylor. Frankly the setup doesn’t make a lick of sense. Deckers teammates treat him like a pariah after three years of playing with them. He endured his father dying leaving his attention divided between the team and his family. Then an “accident” on the field where a teammate steps on his pitching hand destroying his potential as a scout prospect. Which propels him to get revenge on said teammate. Mallory is trying to get a story for the senior paper so she strikes a deal with Decker to help him date her stepsister not realizing his intentions is purely revenge and not purely because he likes her. The whole thing is a mess to be honest it starts with Mallory having an intense reaction to people not welcome in her personal space yet all of a sudden that not a thing anymore by a third of the way through. Her dad is kind of an a$$ and doesn’t engage with her since being remarried. Decker and his teammate Elias were supposedly best friends growing up but nothing is talked about with regards to that. Elias’ dad conveniently is on the board for Mallory’s dads company ensuring that if one of the sisters gets the job as COO of the New York office his son is to marry one of them to make sure she has a “man” at her side. Like what in the 1950’s did I just read? Also there’s reference to Elias having an injury that he’s doping for but there’s no conclusion with this. Taylor is so superficial but gets mad at Mallory when she realizes she was using her to get her piece for the paper granted it was wrong but Taylor also was sleeping with any jersey she could at this point. Mallory’s best friend also is weirdly in and out of this story but not really making the impact I think the author was going for. There is so much more I could go in about but I will end rant here. I think if it was a longer story this could’ve been salvaged, if we saw more of Elias and Decker pre fight, the relationship between Mallory and her step mom because that was mentioned a lot, and it would’ve made more sense if they used the Devils connection (like Mallory’s dad used to be a Devil) for Elias getting a job/marry one of the girls. Overall a simple quick read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read
This is a new-to-me author and I am eagerly jumping to the next in this series. I really enjoyed the plot and storyline as this was not just another enemies-to-lovers whatsoever. The characters are slowly unraveled to the reader and are very relatable. Great read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm
Not the best. Not terrible but there's better romance books out there. Sorry 😞. The spice was not quite hitting the spot, the MFC Was stupid at some points with her reactions to things. It was annoying. But hey I'm just one person.
