Winter Wonders: An Anthology of Winter-Themed Speculative Fiction (Skullgate Media Presents) Kindle Edition
There’s something magical about venturing out into the chill, something deeply comforting about returning to the warmth afterwards. And, of course, something vaguely sinister about the long darkness...
These stories capture all of those aspects of winter. Some are dark, with the kind of cold teeth that’ll gnaw off your flesh and turn your bones into crackling, disintegrating lumps of ice. Some are warmer, like sitting by a fireside and draining a cup of something hot and sweet while sleet pounds at the windows from outside.
Enjoy your adventures into winter’s depths. We’ll make sure you come home safe!
Includes stories by: L.T. Adams, Cormack Baldwin, B.K. Bass, Jacob W. Brannan, Alice Dryden, Elizabeth Guilt, Tessa Hastjarjanto, Debbie Iancu-Haddad, Mara Lynn Johnstone, Jack Kaide, Christine Makepeace, Steven M. Nedeau, Stephanie Parent, Kelly Piner, Miguel Alfonso Ramos, Dominic Rascati, Joette M. Rozanski, C.D. Storiz, and Nickolas Urpí.

Mara Lynn Johnstone grew up in a house on a hill, of which the top floor was built first. She split her time between climbing trees, drawing fantastical things, reading books, and writing her own. There may have been an imaginary friend or ten. She went on to gain a Master's Degree in creative writing, a husband, a son, and two laptop-loving cats. She enjoys writing, drawing, and spending hours discussing made-up things. See more at MaraLynnJohnstone.com
B.K. Bass is the author of over a dozen works of science fiction, fantasy, and horror inspired by the pulp fiction magazines of the early 20th century and classic speculative fiction. He is also a freelance editor with experience both as a publisher and editor-in-chief of a literary journal. When B.K. isn’t dreaming up new worlds to explore, he spends his time as a lifelong student of history, bookworm, and film buff.
‘Chris Durston refuses to be dull … He doesn’t see the point of writing a story if he can’t take full advantage of the medium and do things within that medium that can’t be done in any other.’
From Devon, in the South West of England, Chris Durston has always wanted to be a writer and only just got around to doing anything about it. Each Little Universe is his debut novel, initially conceived while studying English literature and philosophy at Cardiff University and finally published five years later.
He is now working on too many projects and hopes to have some of them finished before too long; in the meantime, shorter pieces can be found in a range of anthologies and collections. He's also somehow become a founding member of Skullgate Media, an independent writers' collective cum indie publisher.
Bringing characters to life one story at a time. C.D. Storiz has short stories/novelettes included in Achten Tan: Land of Dust & Bone and Under New Suns both published through Skullgate Media. If you like quirky fantasy, I hope you'll enjoy the Sands of Achten Tan series which includes "Speechless in Achten Tan"
"The Bone Master" and two short stories. My plan is for this series to include four books, "Tar and Bone" A prequel is coming out later this year, followed by, "The Magic Within," that concludes this series.
My YA Sci-Fi series, "Children of the Stars" will launch September 6th, 2023. Available for pre-order now!

- Reviewed in the United States on May 2, 2022I love a good anthology book and having to do with winter, cold, ice seems to make it more enjoyable! this was a great collection of weird, dark, very cold tales. Stand out stories to watch for...IN THE MEADOW by CHRISTINE MAKEPEACE and EXODUS by KELLY PINER. Both wonderful stories full of dread and hopelessness. I say grab a blanket, a big mug of coffee and this book! Most enjoyable!!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2021This short story was tenderly written and evoked in me (a grandmother with a penchant for family history) a sense of delight. Children living in a future world who have a warm relationship with elderly relatives, and bringing back a sense of times gone by.
Although I'm not normally a big fan of 'futurism' I found this story to be wonderfully imaginative with very believable dialog. Great short read and I look forward to other stories or books from this author.
