4.4 out of 5 stars 9,661 ratings

From USA Today bestselling author Dionne Lister comes a fun, action-packed cosy mystery series.

All it takes is one morning for Sydney Photographer Lily Bianchi's life to go off the rails and over a cliff. A well-dressed English woman turns up at her door, swearing she's a witch. If that’s not crazy enough, she explains Lily’s brother, James, has been kidnapped and the Paranormal Investigation Bureau needs Lily’s help finding him. And the craziest part? The Englishwoman tells Lily she's a witch too.

Before she can say, “Where’s my coffee?” she’s on a plane bound for Westerham, England.

Unfortunately, England’s not as welcoming as she hoped--she's barely arrived before she gets set up, arrested, and almost shot. Things can only get better from here, right? Yeah, right…

Fall in love with squirrel-loving Lily as she helps the PIB investigate witch crime in England.

If you enjoyed Amanda M. Lee's Moonstone Bay Cozy Mystery Series, you'll love this action-packed mystery.

USA Today bestselling author (November 2017), Dionne Lister is a Sydneysider with a degree in creative writing and two Siamese cats. Daydreaming has always been her passion, so writing was a natural progression from staring out the window in primary school, and being an author was a dream she held since childhood.

I happened upon the first book on Kindle Unlimited, so decided to give it a try. I don't usually go for these types of main characters, but the start of the book intrigued me, so I kept on reading.

I prefer books with strong female characters and usually put aside books where the lead character is a bit of a ditz, but there was enough sanity in the surrounding characters to make me keep on reading. Lily can probably get quickly annoying to people - she is emotionally immature and while a lot of that can be written off due to the incredible situation she finds herself after coming to England to find her missing brother, but be warned, it doesn't change much for the rest of the series.

Still, if you like a lighthearted and fast read, you may enjoy this books and its subsequent sequels. I found it entertaining that for each book, I bought the next book in line. I didn't read them all back to back because it would have been too much. Lily reminds me of the dog from the movie Up - especially when it comes to squirrels! I do recommend the book as what a friend used to call Ho hos - light and fluffy which goes fast and you enjoy it, but nothing that will be earth shattering in terms of experiences.

I was looking for something lighter than my current reading list and this book attracted me with the look of fun, mystery and the clincher, it was free.

This book opens with Lily photographing a wedding, one where the bride is definitely a bridezilla. Fortunately the bride's father is well aware and gives Lily a most welcome and generous tip. It's also her birthday and she hasn't heard from her brother. He always calls on her birthday and she finds herself crying and watching really awful TV.

What really takes the cake is her coffee machine sparking and dying instead of brewing. This is followed by a very static filled call from her sister-in-law Millicent that cuts out and can't be reconnected. If that wasn't strange enough, a woman is at her door when she steps out to get her coffee. After rather snarky introductions the woman decides Lily needs coffee before she can have a conversation and lets her go on her way.

Angelica Constance DuPree is not one to be ignored so of course she doesn't leave Lily alone for long, she has news to impart and it's not pleasant. She also needs Lily to travel with her to England. This isn't going to go over well.

Now all things considered this wasn't so bad, well except for finding out she's a witch. That was the reason her electronics had gone wonky. However, once they arrived in Westerham things take a turn for the worse. It seems part of Lily's powers is connected to her photography skills. By taking pictures she can see events as they took place but she keeps ending up arrested and unable to get to the truth of her brother's disappearance.

Assistance from the arresting officers and Angelica get to the bottom of things in this fun, suspenseful and adventurous read.

I will definitely be continuing this series.

Lackluster. Interesting idea, but I don't think it's fully fleshed out. Too easily wrapped up and predictable. Anything exciting didn't have a satisfying payoff

Witchnapped in Westerham is the first book in the Paranormal Investigation Bureau series (currently up to book 9) by Dionne Lister. Released 16th July 2018, it's 218 pages and available in paperback and ebook formats.

This is a cute, undemanding, paranormal cozy. Main character Lily is a photographer and *surprise* a witch. She finds out more about her own and other's powers when a strange Englishwoman appears on her doorstep and drags her off to England to help find her kidnapped brother who, it turns out, is a colleague of the aforementioned woman, exploring crimes with a paranormal angle.

The plotting is simple, undemanding, and the plot twists are unlikely to surprise many readers. The dialogue is often silly and/or snarky. There's also a hunky antagonistic detective who provides the necessary slow burn romantic element. I liked reading about the magical elements and the limits of the various characters' talents (they vary). The denouement was a little surprising; the 'whodunnit' aspect won't come as a shock for many (any?) readers.

One quibble from me... It made my eye twitch on page 163 to see the author use "infer" when she clearly meant "imply". The book is self published and likely self-edited, but it did make me wince.

This is a nice easy entertaining paranormal cozy. I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.

    Three and a half stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Cozy Mystery worth falling in love for.
Reviewed in Canada on December 29, 2019
I fell in love with this series the moment I started to read it. Yes, we get to find out the culprit early in the story, but it is only in the end that we learn the why, the who, the where about the mystery. It was fun, and it made me laugh, and cry, on more than one occasion.
This story is written in the first person and it is about Lily Bianchi, a 23-year-old photographer that finds out on her birthday that she is no ordinary woman. She also learns of the disappearance of her brother James who lives in the London, while she is in Australia. As the story progress, we learn who Lily truly is, what she can do and how she can save her brother.
This book was extremely fun to read, and I can’t wait to get the chance to read book two of the series. And if you love cozy mysteries, and log paranormal books, you will adore this book. It has plenty of action, a good hefty dash of magic, and a sparkle of humor. But do prepare a box of Kleenex near by, you might need it like I did. Happy reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars A delightful read with quirky humor and a fun main character
Reviewed in Australia on July 18, 2020
I'm now hooked on this series! It's a fun escapist read with just the right balance of character depth and emotional moments while keeping up the Mystery pace. The main character Lily is quirky and relatable. She's nicely a little flawed but still very likable. I'm nearly finished the second book, and I get why so many people love the character and go through the series. For me, the humor in this book comes from her naturally funny way about things and how she doesn't know she's funny. I have friends like that!
I can't give away plot elements, so I'll just say I enjoyed the mystery, and I needed to know right to the end if things were going to turn out okay for Lily and the things she cares most about. She has a very unique magic power, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops.
