Without Mercy, book 2
Gloria craves love, the encompassing love that only Ellis can give her. Haunted by his past, Ellis is a drifter. He makes his own rules and refuses to stay in any place long.
When Gloria Harris oversees the arrangements of her mother’s funeral, she is burdened with a major challenge. Mercy Harris was a powerful woman who never set foot in a church in her life. Gloria wants her to have a proper Christian burial.
She visits her local parsonage and meets Ellis Miller who is wearing a clerical collar for the first time in his life. He’s eager to start work as a religious leader, ordained or otherwise.
The passion Gloria and Ellis share opens a new world to her. She finally understands the success of the family guesthouse, The Black Hen, thatcaters to unconventional sexual appetites of its many loyal patrons.
Soon Ellis is on the trail of Mercy’s murderers. When he wades into danger, he doesn’t know that Gloria is right behind him.

Strong men and feisty women populate the books of Libby Campbell, USA Today bestselling author. Her fast-paced stories are full of challenges and setbacks. Each couple finds their joyful HEA only after major differences have been resolved with classic dom/sub discipline.
Some of these stories span one hundred years or more, through the magic of time travel. Others take you on a fantasy ride to a faraway galaxy or into the life of a stern billionaire. Some romances are contemporary. Her current series (release date December 2021) will step back in time to the roaring 20’s, 1920’s that is.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2022I loved this book - it not only moves the murder mystery story forward in a substantial way, it also opens new questions and provides updates on all the characters we have met to date in the series. In addition, it provides a beautiful love story that I found to be nearly flawless. Due to the profound loss of a loved one, a lovely and smart young woman is suddenly free to pursue a relationship. She meets a young man who is somewhat hardened by life experiences. He thinks himself a nomad, a man who works on the barely legal side of things. When they meet the attraction is overwhelming and they wonder of possibilities of a future together. Gloria, perhaps as a result of grief, finally throws caution to the wind and takes a lover. She finally shares her deepest desires with this man, with Ellis. Ellis sees opportunity here too; perhaps the family life he lost and grieves for. He finds Gloria intoxicating and wants to be the answer to all her desires, just as she accepts his. He also lets Gloria know who will be in charge in this relationship and his strength comforts her. Their love for each other comes fast and furious but is no less real for being so sudden. They have met their matches and a beautiful romance blooms before the reader’s eyes. I was instantly drawn to these two characters and loved every second of their amazing romance. I also loved the way Ellis becomes a real and participating member of the little family at the Black Hen. Please pick this one up and treat yourself to a fantastic love story! I eagerly await the final book in this brilliant series
- Reviewed in the United States on August 2, 2024A short quick read very much like the earlier book. Occasionally it did get a bit longwinded but I skipped a page or two. The detective work now has a good investigator a new character inclusion. It seals the family and answers question outstanding. I did enjoy it and am going on to the next one today!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 2, 2022The story about Mercy's death continues. This story features Ellis and Gloria. They are still on the hunt for the killer, and I have an idea, but there was something that happened in this book I didn't see coming. I can't wait for the next book to come out
- Reviewed in the United States on February 4, 2022Unchosen is the second book in the Without Mercy series. I so enjoyed the first book in this series, Unseen, that I knew I was going to read the rest, even though historical romance is not really my thing. This book continues the overarching story-line of the murder mystery of Mercy Harris and the three young women who were taken in as ward's by her. The thing about Mercy is that she was a woman who ran a "guesthouse" but really it was sex club and Mercy was the Madam. This story centers around Gloria, one of the three now grown daughters, and Ellis Miller, the more than dubious nephew of the self-righteous town pastor.
This book is really well written, has a great story-line and wonderful characters. I cannot wait to read the last book, Untamed, as I am still not sure who the murderer is.
I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 16, 2022When Ellis surprised his Aunt and Uncle with a visit, he had no idea how interesting their small town would be, or how caught up he'd get in one particular young woman's life.
Gloria went to ask the parson to perform her mother's funeral, she wasn't expecting an interim preacher... an attractive, single, caring and compassionate man who has the heart of a gambler, and the curiosity of a good detective.
This book not only moves the overarching whodunit along, but with its interesting characters, and thoughtful exploration of the 1920s is so nicely paced that I can't help but understand why this is a trilogy. Characters that would be paper thin in a done in one have interesting subplots, none of the suspects are easy to reject out of hand... I can't wait to read the next book in the series and not only find out who did it (boy do I have theories), but why (I love that several folks have viable motives!)
- Reviewed in the United States on January 28, 2022The story continues with Ellis and Gloria. I'm enjoying the series and the mystery of who killed Mercy and why. I have a few ideas, but I'm not sure yet! Ellis starts out as rogue, but as he gets to know Gloria, he becomes what she needs and wants. I can't wait for the last book.
I received an advance copy and this is my honest review.
