Without Warning (Cobalt Security Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 1,794 ratings

-NEWLY COVERED NO NEW CONTENT-

What the hell do you do when life changes on a dime without warning?

Ryder Freeman- His job is to keep Harrison safe from a stalker and one step ahead of the paparazzi. That’s it! The hotter than hell young billionaire is forbidden fruit and crossing that line is not an option.
So, why is it that when bullets start flying, Ryder makes an executive decision to take his client away to the Freeman family cabin?

Harrison Trudel- His father’s last will and testament doesn’t mention a shot gun wedding, but it might as well have with its crazy stipulations! With his safety at risk and a company to run, he caves when his uncle brings in outside help in the form of a hot and sexy bodyguard.
One who just happens to tick all of his boxes! Enter a picturesque cabin by a lake and all bets are off as far as Harrison is concerned.

Resolve gets tested…
Lines get blurred…
And suddenly anything seems possible.
Only there’s one problem, the stalker isn’t finished.
Can Ryder and Harrison stay one step ahead of a killer bent on permanently removing Ryder out of his way?

Author note: In typical Reese Knightley style, Without Warning is a fast paced, slow burn, action & adventure romance with a big cast of characters and a definite HEA. This book is the first in a series, but can be enjoyed as a standalone. *Cobalt Security, Code of Honor, and Out For Justice series are loosely connected.

The character’s hot/cold interactions that turned warm together, before they blazed. All while danger and lies flit across their path and parts of them knowing what took their hearts and minds a bit longer to catch on.
Good mesh of characters. A little choppy in the content flow but it makes for an easy read.

A romance and scary mystery entwined. The bodyguard Ryder is hired despite the wealthy Harrison’s protests. As the stalker ups his game, how well will Ryder be able to protect Harrison and his own heart? Enjoy their fast paced and seductive story!!!

Not every hit can be a home run. After 2 outstanding series this just didn’t have the same fast paced sizzle I’ve come to expect from Reese Knightley.
Around page 70 the story starts to click, If Harrison’s company would have something engineering or inventive, it would have been better for the story

For the most part, I liked this book. It had a wide cast of potential villains and even though I picked the eventual winner early on, there was enough to make me doubt myself several times. I didn’t feel like the villain’s motive was all that strong, though. I felt it could have been presented with a bit more intensity. There was plenty of violence but the dialogue was sparse and didn’t give that strong of a presentation of a man driven to the edge. I’m more interested in this series than I am in her Out for Justice series. I hated the first book, Ricochet. However, I might read the second in that series, based on the strong showing by this book.

Harrison is a man from a rich family. His father's will put him in danger so that he needed a body guard that would be Ryder. They have to go through a lot including an attempted kidnapping but it all ends in the best way!

I enjoyed the story, although the terms of Harrison’s father’s will is a little hard to swallow. And the overworked billionaire theme more than a little fantastical. Three of them in one story? Plus Warren, Ryder’s ex, seems more than a little off putting...trying to take his house away in the divorce? Not cool. On the other hand, Ashley is a great friend, , the secluded cabin section is good, and so is the spectacle of all those men chasing Harrison for a chance at marriage and a ton of money. We get a final reward in the shape of a bull mastiff puppy. And of course, a love story that warmed my heart.

Ryder is given a job protecting Harrison Trudel who has a stalker that’s getting bold. Harrison & Ryder don’t hit it off as Harrison doesn’t like rich privileged people ( he has his reasons which are Tod further in) and Harrison hates how abrupt Ryder is towards his friends and he hates Ryder telling him what to do even though he’s protecting his life . I really enjoyed this book even though I’d guessed who the unsub was pretty early on it didn’t spoil anything when it was uncovered .

Reese did it again with her new series. I loved Ryder and Harrison. They worked well as a pair and without.
Their story was sweet and fun and full of those action sequences that Reese is known for in her writing.
I enjoyed this different direction with the bodyguard. We were introduced to Cobalt Security at the end of book 4 of the Phoenix books.
The relationship between Ryder and Harrison was a lovely slow burn as Ryder learned to trust Harrison and Harrison felt enough to give his heart away.
The action sequences were gripping and I was glued to the page, hoping for a good result.

If you love action, the awesome bodyguard and slow burn, take this lovely book for a ride. You won’t regret it
