Take the guesswork out of formatting by using the most widespread program available—Microsoft Word.
This step-by-step guide shows writers how to get the most out of Word, making sure they understand the program through images and how the different parts work together, and offers time-saving tips and tricks.
Looking to go traditional? This book breaks down the nitty gritty on formatting for submissions, what to include in cover letters, queries and more.
Going indie? No problem. Part three covers how to turn your standard Word document into a PDF ready for print and how to set it up for autoconverters like Draft2Digital, Amazon's KDP, and Smashwords.
A pro at Word but looking for a quick reference guide? This book's easy to follow layout, makes finding what you need a snap.
At the end of the day, this book guides you through the perils and pitfalls, and removes the mystery of a program everyone uses, but few master, to leave you with professional quality submissions and publications sure to wow your audience.

About the author

Kari Holloway is an American writer who grew up in Leesburg, Georgia. She dabbles in southern romances filled with iconic components of sexy cowboys and firefighters, explored the unexplained in her paranormal series, found her way to the battlefields of the Civil War, and to love's first kiss under the weeping willow through various anthologies.
Unsure of what her future holds, Kari enjoys writing what captures her attention in the evenings. During the day, she chases her kids around, laughing at their sassy ways and the depths of their curiosity.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2020What I've learned through trial and error over years of using Word is nicely distilled within these pages, plus plenty of useful information I still didn't know about. It has some nice bonus sections on formatting. This book was useful in putting together my latest project as an ebook for Amazon. However, you'll still need to refer back to Amazon's Kindle guide for precise instructions depending on your book's trim. Yet, between the two guides I had no real issues, despite never doing it before, thus saving me money on not having to hire a formatter. Well worth the price as it saves you money in the long run!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 29, 2021Saw the recommendation for this book on a Facebook group, thought I would check it out. The price was worth the gamble, and in this case the gamble paid off. This book was informative, easy to read, and gave you the stuff you need to get any writing started. Really helpful in my last project and I am sure it will continue to produce in the future. Definitely worth the investment.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 4, 2020I liked the easiness of The Writer's Guide to Microsoft Word by Kari Holloway. Things are laid out nicely with pictures included of what is being discussed and explained, so it is easier to find the command buttons that are needed or what the options are.
I am not a writer in the sense of books but I do have to use MS Word for work and I learnt a few things that I will be using when I need to do my next reports.
If you are a MS Word pro then you might not really learn a whole lot but it is also a good quick reference guide and there are a few tricks that you can glean from it.
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 16, 2020Thanks Kari! Your step by step guide made using Word easier to understand and follow. I was able to navigate several Word features on the first day without feeling overwhelmed. With help from your book, I will be able to access more advanced issues when I am ready. This is a must have reference book for writers of all levels.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 29, 2020If you are a self-published writer, or just a person who wants to use Microsoft Word to its fullest extent, this manual is for you. Simply written and straightforward, it answers your formatting questions easily and directly. Read it from cover-to-cover, because you will learn answers to questions you never thought to ask.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 9, 2021Use this book first. Then add "Format your book by Mark Stattelman" and then if you need further help use "Teach yourself visually Word 2019"
These 3 books will set you on FIRE to Format your books. If your only writing 1 or 2 books - Pay someone else to do it. But if your writing MANY books. You should have these books in your possession. Especially the first 2 books I mentioned. ~!~!~!~! This book A++++
- Reviewed in the United States on August 4, 2020I've been using Word for quite a while, but I haven't utilized many of the features. Formatting has also been a problem-I get floating margins and things I don't even know what to call them. This book explained everything I needed to know to use Word to its fullest extent.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 25, 2021I found A Writer's Guide to Microsoft Word to be a wonderful help in my writer's journey. It is professionally written and concise. The layout of the book is easy to follow, it teaches by example of a well thought off book with the most helpful information. The graphics are clear, therefore, easy to follow and apply. I'm incredibly grateful I bought this book. It is a welcome addition to my reference books library and will be thoroughly utilized.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some cool stuff
Good, but not very deep. I bought mainly to learn pagination but the instruction is not very detailed. I still learned some cool stuff, though.
