Written with You (The Regret Duet Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 5,029 ratings

When I was fifteen, a single bullet changed my life. I spent the next decade trying to outrun the devastation of my past, building an empire that would shield me from whatever life could throw at me.

But all the money in the world couldn’t help me when I found a screaming newborn abandoned on my doorstep.

I’d never wanted to be a father. Passing the sludge that ran through my veins down to an innocent child seemed like a tragedy. But there she was—pink cheeks, red hair, and mine.

Somehow, against all logic, that little girl became the best thing that ever happened to me. It was impossible to stay lost in the past when I was the only one who could protect her future.

Which is exactly why, when her mother came back four years later, I was ready for battle.

If only I could stop myself from falling in love with her during the war.

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four hilarious children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys movies that can surprise her with a twist, charcuterie boards, and her mildly neurotic golden retriever. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a glass of wine by her side.

"In his arms, I would always feel like Willow."
* Review free of spoilers *This was one of the best duets I've ever read.Every time Aly Martinez releases a new book or in her case, a new duet, I'm curious to find out what the story is about and how she will be able to surprise and write about topics I have not read before. Now, when both books are out, I recommend you dive into this duet and I'm sure you'll be surprised, shocked and fall in love with Caven and Hadley, just as I have. The previous book, on which I wrote a review, ends with a cliffhanger and here, we slowly begin to receive answers and find out what happened in the past.I loved the fact that from the beginning of the book I felt that it drew me back into the complex world of the main characters and the author did not drag the readers until we received answers. In addition, the relationship between the main characters continued to be sweet, authentic, reliable and full of conflicts - just the way I like it.Our relationship was born in a tragedy, but I had faith we could flourish in the fortune of the seconds on the other side.As is often the case in duets, the first book was perfect and the second book a little less.In this book I felt that there were a few dead moments, a little dragging of the plot towards the end and an unnecessary drama that felt a bit forced.4 stars second book4.5 stars for the entire duet.In conclusion, an amazing duet, worth your time and highly recommended.“It’s okay to live with regret, Caven. But it’s something totally different to live in regret.”

Aly does it again taking us on a ride we never saw coming. So much tragedy and pain but love wins out. This story has it all. Willow , Caven and Rosalee were so fun to follow during this incredible journey of love, loss, tragedy, family history, funny texts, stories and jokes and sexy times found when times allowed. Such good advice in dealing with overwhelming circumstances and relationships. Beth and Ian are such great friends to Willow and Caven I hope they get their own stories! Both books in this series are phenomenal. Definitely worth reading.

“I couldn't tell him his guardian angel was dead.
I couldn't hurt him more than Malcom already had.
But I had no idea how I would ever tell him the truth."
    This duet BLEW MY MIND!
Seriously, folks, it's been quite some time since I've felt like a story became part of my existence, and this one totally did that. This story was complex, filled with some real and deep emotions, but also gave us a sliver of hope in every moment of darkness. I felt like there was a realness to this story that was something special and unique.

At the end of Written with Regret, we were left dangling on a ledge. If you read the first half of the duet, you may have been clinging for dear life waiting on that cliff as well. I had so many questions! I mean, I knew a lot of the information, but it seemed like maybe there was an angle I didn't consider and that danger lurked in the future.

First off, let me apologize to Ian. I was not his biggest fan at the end of Written with Regret, but he is the BOMB. I love him so much! He is witty, loyal, stubborn in all the good ways, but completely open to change when presented with enough information. "...And I needed to know how much clothes to pack if I was going to temporarily move in as an emotional support dog. After reading this shit, I scheduled my U-Haul for tomorrow.” Then, later, when he stands up for someone I never expected him to ... that is a man I would love to have on my side in any situation.

Okay, so let's get to the beginning this story - I was worried.
There was so much that could go wrong and I was hurting for Hadley & Willow. "I don't care if you did this for me or not. She looks like my mom. Laughs like my dad. And argues like my mother. For however long you stay tonight, and any other night in the future, my family will be alive again. This is truly the greatest gift anyone has ever given me. And I will never stop thanking you for that, regardless if you want me to or not.” HEART.BROKEN. No matter the reasons that things happened or how much I despise lying, I could fully sympathize with the reasons and the desperation that led to her choices.

At each turn of the page there were clues being dropped - some helpful and some not so much. I think my brain did somersaults attempting to piece together this puzzle before I could be surprised. I was doing fairly well, until I got hit out of nowhere with some new information that blindsided me! I had some nagging suspicions, but there was no way that could be right ... no way.

My friends, this story was just ... a breath of fresh air for me. It gave me everything I wanted, surprised me, and there wasn't a moment that I was bored. The characters were real, flawed, raw, and beautiful. The story itself was unique and gave a distinct perspective that I haven't experienced. Love. Love. Love.

“But if I could wish anything, it would be that we were strangers so we could have something real that wasn't tainted."

The first book in this duology was excellent, and the conclusion is just as good. It's a roller coaster of a ride as Caven and Hadley/Willow find love and resolve the issues of their youth, which are major. The twists continued coming, and I didn't see any of them right to the end. Caven and Willow are wonderful characters. The author did a good job in actualizing their traumas and working them through it. Rosalee is a doll, and the author does a great job of making her sound like a real child. I loved this book, and I'm looking for more from this author.

This duet is a thrilling masterpiece as it untangles its twists and turns. The heartwarming romance, the splitting humor and the icy mystery present in this tale makes it perfect. I enjoyed Rosie's every antic and cavin's fatherly instincts and also the beautiful bond that willow shares with the little girl. We can never forget jacob though, he is the ultimate love expert. This journey always keeps your head reeling as secrets from the past unfold. After rendering me speechless in all the good ways I have only one thing to say about this breathtaking couple who are both survivors of the past: they are messed up in a thousand ways and beautiful in million. I enjoyed reading it and finished both books in one go!

I literally can’t say much about this story, because going blind is the best way to go. But you can never go wrong with a Aly Martinez.
This duet blew my mind! Still in awe with Aly’s writing. I couldn’t put these books down.
The story is incredible. I loved the bond between Caven and Rosie, and the relationship that built between Rosie and Hadley. Rosie is such a precious little girl.
A must read for anyone who likes books full of twists and turns.

5.0 out of 5 stars I did not see that coming!
Reviewed in Canada on March 13, 2020
I'm glad that I could read this duet back to back as a continuous story. I could not have anticipated so many of the events that happen and don't think it could have been written any better! These are my first Aly Martinez books and I can't wait to read more. Little Rosie is the cutest 4 year old in the world! Her stories of little Jacob are so funny. I would have babies with Caven and love him forever and ever! Shh don't tell my husband. He is definitely one of my favorite book boyfriends! I think I'm still in shock from all the twists and turns but I seriously love how pieces of the story are revealed throughout. I was on the edge of my seat, every single scene had a purpose and was necessary to tell the story. I kinda want to read it again and probably will! I usually avoid books with children in the story, just personal preference, but I'm so glad I took a chance on this one.
