4.3 out of 5 stars 202 ratings

When he discovers that the woman he’s started to date is an investigative journalist covering a story that involves his parents, Xavier realizes that he has to watch his back. But can he stop his heart from falling for the one person who can ruin his family?

After years of shying away from love, Xavier Stirling can’t help his attraction for Eve Marrin. But just when things are falling into place, his father confesses to him that he’s committed fraud. Xavier believes that his father is being coerced by a notorious criminal. But with the police also suspecting Xavier of wrongdoing, he desperately joins the Indie Rebels—a secret crime-fighting team—to get their help. His first assignment is to keep none other than Eve safe, without letting Eve know that she's being protected by the secretive group. Then, he finds out that she’s investigating his family. Can he rein in his feelings for the woman he shouldn’t trust?

For Eve, moving to Sydney for her new job as co-anchor of a popular public affairs program is a dream come true. Not only that, she’s looking forward to being in the same city as Xavier, the guy she most definitely wants to continue dating. But when she's given a tip to investigate Xavier’s business, can she build a wall around her heart in order to do her work?

Miranda P. Charles writes steamy, stirring and swoonworthy contemporary romance, romcom, and romantic suspense books.

She prefers to spend her time in front of her laptop, putting into words the stories that play in her head. Don't get her started with reading a great book, though, because she tends not to put it down until she gets to the last page.

She does have a life outside of books. Mostly, that consists of bonding with family and friends or going on romantic trips with her awesome husband.

She lives in Sydney, Australia.

This was a great story with an interesting plot. Xavier and Eve meet under normal, circumstances and have an instant, hot attraction to one another. Little do they know that events in each of their lives will bring them together to fight con artists, fraud, and murder. These events also question if they can trust one another or if they are involved with the bad guys. Really good plot with interesting twists.
    Nice beginning to this series.

I was drawn in by the intrigue and suspense surrounding this romance. Xavier and Eve meet at the gym Xavier owns but she lives out of town but that doesn't stop them from sharing a fun, exciting and sexy weekend together. When Eve gets a new job, she ends up back in town but she has to report on a scandal involving Xavier's family so he assumes she planned their first weekend to get information. Eve has no idea that Xavier is part of the Stirling family. As they both are working to uncover the craziness being forced upon the Stirling family, they begin to build a relationship together but will the secrets they find destroy their chance at happiness. The complexity of this mystery kept me guessing and needing to know more. Loved how this story unfolded and interconnected on so many levels.

I really enjoyed this book. Eve is a co anchor of a tv show that helps investigate crime and other thing to bring to people eyes.. she is trying to get a new job. She meets Xavier at a gym they have great chemistry . Xaviers Family has some drama because his dad partner was working for a crime boss. And a group called the Indie rebels caught him. In comes the mystery of finding out how to catch the bad guys while keeping the person you live in the dark due to rules. Xavier is trying very hard to do just that but Eve is very good at her job but she doesn’t have the full picture. Great book can’t wait to read the next book.

Ins and outs run all thru this series. I'm going to read one more story to see if it holds my interest. Although I enjoyed this one I felt the mystery could have been developed more so you followed the threat fully.

2.0 out of 5 stars TV star meets gym monkey!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 9, 2021
This book is based in Australia, she's a news anchor on t.v. and on the verge of moving and becoming an investigative journalist on a big tv program, he's a gym owner with a famous pop star sister. They hit it off immediately without knowing who the other one is. That's not brought to life until she investigates his parents and former associate on t.v.
There's a bad guy and loads of misleading info that all sort of intermingle. So basically the plot/storyline had good potential...but, for me, it missed the mark. It lacked passion and emotion, even the few sex scenes were dull and boring.
What capped everything off, (badly), was when help was needed they had to join a vigilante group to get it??!!
Sorry, no, wasn't feeling this book at all!
