4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 671 ratings

To be home for Christmas, they must bridge the distance between them.

Charlie Yates is desperate. It’s almost Christmas and his flight home from college has been delayed. For days. Charlie promised his little sister Ava he’d be home for her first holiday season since going into remission from leukemia. Now he’s stuck on the opposite coast and someone else grabbed the last rental car. Someone he hasn’t even spoken to in four years.

Someone who broke his heart.

Gavin Bloomberg’s childhood friendship with Charlie ended overnight after a day of stolen kisses. With years of resentment between them, they don’t want to be in the same room together, let alone a car. But for Ava’s sake, Gavin agrees to share the rental and drive across the country together.

As they face unexpected bumps along the road, can Charlie and Gavin pave the way to a future together?

If Only in My Dreams by Keira Andrews is a gay Christmas romance featuring enemies to lovers, forced proximity, steamy first times, and of course a happy ending.

About the Author

This spicier side of narrator Greg Tremblay brings a passion for strong plots and simmering love scenes. Honoring Greg's ancestors who split from the Tremblay clan to seek the heat of the Bayou, Greg Boudreaux seeks to deliver characters to make you swoon and love scenes to make you blush.

After writing for years yet never really finding the right inspiration, Keira Andrews discovered her voice in gay romance, which has become a passion. She writes contemporary, historical, paranormal, and fantasy fiction, and-although she loves delicious angst along the way-Keira firmly believes in happy endings. For as Oscar Wilde once said, "The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what fiction means."

Dreams turn to reality !!!
Re-read Jan 3, 2025***** Truly a heartwarming Christmas miracle. Charlie, promised his sister Ava, who has Leukemia that he's get there on time to open presents with her. Last year they didn't think she'd still be here. He donated bone marrow for her, but there were no guarantees in cancer. Of course Mother Nature had other ideas, leaving him without flights, buses, trains, etc., until he tried car rental. Everyone had that idea also, but there is a man who just rented the last one! Would he share, would he be going his way?? OMG, it's Gavin, his childhood friend and still his obsession. The trip proves interesting, an adventure, too. Gavin has never been with another man sexually, but wants Charlie, always has wanted Charlie. Deeply thought filled characters, flashbacks to the events that made them who they are, misunderstandings explained, budding love rekindled. Heartwarming, delightful, a page turner you can't put down.Highly recommended on your M/M Christmas list !! ENJOY !!!!

    4.5-5 stars

This was a great story. I have to say that I'm so glad I picked up my first book by Keira Andrews ([book:Kick at the Darkness|25543022]) because I just love her writing. The characters are believable and likable and the stories are realistic and well written.

Charlie is a college student in San Francisco. Charlie is gay and has been out for years and his family accepts him. He grew up in Connecticut with his parents and little sister, Ava, who he loves very much. Ava had leukemia and Charlie donated bone marrow to help save her. Ava is in remission now but Charlie promised to be home for Christmas and is determined to keep his word.

Gavin is a college student in San Francisco (different college from Charlie). Gavin and his family moved to Connecticut when he was 14. Gavin is gay but has lived a lie for years because his father gave him the indication it wasn't alright and that he wouldn't love Gavin if he was gay. Gavin had a girlfriend in his high school years but they broke up before college when he couldn't keep lying to himself about his sexual inclinations anymore.

Gavin and Charlie lived 10 houses down from each other and were actually best friends for the first few months. Unfortunately, issues arose (having to do with attraction and what Gavin's father did to him) which broke up their friendship and had them as odds for their high school years. Both Gavin and Charlie heard that the other was going to college in San Francisco but they didn't get it touch while they were both there.

When the story begins, Charlie is trying to get home but his flight has been cancelled because of massive storms. He finds that all transport is booked and he gets to the last car rental place just after they've rented the last car. As it turns out, the last car was rented to Gavin and although they're both uncomfortable about the situation, they deal with it because it's for Ava and Christmas. The trip is a bit rough at first but thankfully, Charlie and Gavin get a chance to talk about their past and the fact that Gavin is really gay. Once their past issues have been dealt with, Charlie and Gavin find their attraction and emotions for each other are still there and very strong and they act on them. There are some difficulties with Gavin's parents but things work out well in the end and Gavin and Charlie head back to college, together and working towards a HEA.

I greatly enjoyed this story. I loved both Gavin and Charlie. They're both good heroes that just needed to talk things out and get over their past. Although the length of the story worked because of the past relationship between Charlie and Gavin, I do wish the story had been longer...mostly just because I liked it and didn't want it to end. Overall, this was a great Christmas romance and I'd recommend it. :D

After reading the Gay Amish Romance series I opened up this book. Sweet and not no innocent, this story is, but I loved every page. Gavin and Charlie, two 14 year old boys who shared a kiss or two and then heartache for four years while they watched the other in a relationship with someone else. Both are now going to college on the west coast and need to return home for Christmas break back east. An act of God placed them in the same rental car for the journey. The banter in the car as they headed east was like they already were a couple. Navigating not only the road, but over their past mistakes that lead them to this moment. 4.0 for snowballs. (The throwing kind)

Of the three Andrews books I've read this season, this was my favorite. I'm not big on enemies to lovers, but this is really more friends to enemies to lovers and in that way it works flawlessly. Andrews brings you right back to those days of youth and first love and heart ache. Watching Gavin and Charlie slowly repair the damage to their relationship, rebuild trust and open themselves to love had me completely entranced.

Andrews weaves a marvelous and believable holiday story here with vibrant, flawed characters. She always seems to know just how much angst is enough and never pours it on too thick. This is a great book for people who love a sweet romance with a bit of pain and heartache thrown in and plenty of laughs.

I loved this book. It's a heartwarming story about two young men, Charlie Yates and Gavin Bloomberg, that are stuck together on a cross country trip to the east coast, and weather doesn't have mercy on them.

Though the two appear to hate each other and hadn't spoken in years, deep down inside they are in love with each other. I felt the storms continued until they discovered each other all over again and their feeling let loose and the truth came out about the incident four years earlier.

The mega storm that was brewing for Christmas Eve and Day didn't happen and they both made it home on Christmas Day. It was important for Charlie to be there on the day of Christmas because he had promised his ailing little sister he would be and the two shared a special relationship; he did everything he could to be there.

Gavin lived down the street from Charlie and had hid his sexuality from his parents for years and now that he had Charlie back in his life he was coming clean with his parents. No way was he losing the man he had love for all those years again. His parent's had a hard time accepting it and went through the normal reaction most parents go through, but in the end love won out.

It's such a sweet romantic story that I will read again. I recommend this book.

The author says that she likes a little angst in her stories. Well she definitely had that in this book. The guys were somewhat younger than I was expecting and in several ways immature. Got somewhat tiring in places when it was all important to get home for a sister and a promise that had been made to her. However it is a young gay romance which is probably more suited to a younger reader who is closer to the age of the main characters of 18.

    I love this sweet story!
It was from both MC point of view which I love.
Charlie was so upset when he thought he couldn't get home in time for Christmas especially since his little sister has been so ill but luckily for him Gavin hired the last car and lived in the same street but although they knew each other they were no longer friends anymore so was not keen on driving home together for a few days!
Gavin let Charlie down four years previously but they realised they still had feelings for each other and there were some delightful scenes that made it have those feel good feelings!

When the weather means Charlie may not make it home for Christmas to see his family, in particular his little sister, who’s in remission from leukaemia, he’s desperate.

His only option is drive across the country with his first crush, Gavin, in the last rental car available. On the way, they each confess their pain and fears when they were young, and realize they care a lot about each other.

At home, Gavin comes out to his parents, and he and Charlie finally tell each other they love each other. Great story of a cross country road trip with lots of history and feelings, and a new future about to start.
