Four Christmas mysteries to bring good cheer

What makes Christmas special?

  • Is it the tree and the decorations?
  • Is it the excitement of giving and receiving presents?
  • Is it the gathering of family and friends?

Experience four different takes on Christmas: the pleasure of shutting up shop and exchanging gifts, the whirl of Christmas shopping in London, a present hunt in nineteenth-century India, and a Sherlock Holmes tale featuring a pudding with a twist! Each story links to a different mystery series, but the stories can stand alone too.

This short, feel-good collection is perfect for enjoying with a slice of Christmas cake, or for reading with your feet up after a session of Christmas shopping or present wrapping – or for popping under the tree!

Liz Hedgecock grew up in London, England, did an English degree, and then took forever to start writing. After several years working in the National Health Service, some short stories crept into the world. A few even won prizes. Then the stories started to grow longer...

Now Liz travels between the nineteenth and twenty-first centuries, murdering people. To be fair, she does usually clean up after herself.

Liz’s reimaginings of Sherlock Holmes, her Pippa Parker cozy mystery series, and the Caster & Fleet Victorian mystery series (with Paula Harmon) are available in ebook and paperback.

Liz lives in Cheshire with her husband and two sons, and when she’s not writing or child-wrangling you can usually find her reading, messing about on Twitter, or cooing over stuff in museums and art galleries. That's her story, anyway, and she's sticking to it.

This is the first time I’ve read anything by Liz Hedgecock. Christmas Presence is four short stories that introduce you to her other series. I enjoyed reading it and I will definitely be reading more. I recommend getting a copy.

I enjoyed reading Liz Hedgecock's four short Christmas books in one sitting. The books are different people in different settings. Have fun reading them!

Very enjoyable short mystery stories with characters from her other series and no cliffhangers. Definitely makes me want to read more by this author.

A sweet quartet of short stories and sample of Liz Hedgecock's writings. We're reacquainted with familiar characters in one story and who can resist a test of wits with Holmes and Watson! A satisfying short read. This is my voluntary and honest review.

4.5 stars for these 4 short-ish, Christmas-themed stories from 3 of Liz Hedgecock's series (the fourth features minor characters from one series). I love her Caster and Fleet series, which isn't featured here, but is very well written, and I wasn't disappointed with these stories either. Being a selection of story types, it's only a matter of which kind of story you prefer – in other words, a perfect opportunity to get to know her writing. The first is about a magical bookshop which starts to make problems on Christmas eve; the second is a clever mystery involving a very special watch which disappears before people's eyes while on display (not a magical story); in the third, a British man in colonial India tries to find out what his wife got him for Christmas (humorous); and the fourth is a well-done Sherlock Holmes in classic style. The book is charming, clever, and well worth reading.

Liz Hedgecock shares four short Christmas stories set in the various book worlds she has created. They are Christmas stories that are perfect for reading when you don't have time for a longer book. Each offers an introduction to other books she has written by introducing the main characters and displaying their mystery solving styles.
While all four are vastly different and fun reads, my favorite is the Magical Bookshop entry. Who would guess a building would have such strong Christmas feelings?
If you haven't been introduced to her stories, this is a terrific way to meet characters and wet your appetite for the fun books waiting for you by this talented author.
