    When I got this book, I wasn't sure what to expect, although my hopes are always high. Let's just say that my expectations where not in vain!

    Ms. Gavalas has written a book that provides clear information on the numerous benefits of yoga and proper eating, and included a sound workout and eating plan that is easy to incorporate into one's life.

    As an academician, I really appreciated the history of yoga, the attention to detail, and the clear, approachable way in which Ms. Gavalas writes. As one who is working to become more consistent with my practice, I loved how there is built-in progression of the practice to carry one from complete beginner to advanced with additional suggestions on how to enhance the practice once one reaches a level of ease with their practice. As one who lives with MS, I really appreciate how I can use any of the modifications provided to accommodate my needs and abilities on any given day. However, what I appreciated most was that Ms. Gavalas reminds us throughout that the practice of yoga is less about perfection--okay, not at all about perfection--and more about showing up and being present to ourselves at the mat.

    That was the first part. In the second part of the set, we move from what we do with our bodies, to what we put in our bodies. Ms. Gavalas ensures that the reader is able to see the connection between how and what we eat and what our bodies are capable of doing on the mat. While it might seem obvious to many, the principles of yogic eating help to provide the same grounding as achieving that asana that one has been working on; the one without the other is only one side of the coin. By outlining the principles of yogic eating, and presenting a number of recipes to help jumpstart the process, Ms. Gavalas has given us a complete picture.

    If you are new to yoga and want a comprehensive tome, including pictures of various asanas and suggestions on how to incorporate them into your daily practice, as well as meal ideas and recipes, then do not search anywhere else. Start here, and then expect amazing, because you'll get it. If you have been at yoga for some time and already have your flow, get this still; it will help to bolster your approach to your practice, and give you even better ways to add yogic principles to every area of your life, both on and off the mat.
