An Interview With The Author

Q - What makes the Zombie D.O.A series so special?

A - A number of things. When I started writing this series, I set out to create the kind of books I enjoy reading. I love post-apocalyptic fiction like Stephen King's "The Stand" and Robert McCammon's "Swan Song" and, of course, "The Walking Dead," so I wanted to create something on the massive scale of those horror classics. However, I wanted the story to work on a smaller scale too, really getting into the hearts and minds of the characters.

Judging by the feedback from readers, the series works on both those levels. Yes, it's scary zombie post apocalyptic fiction, zombie survival fiction, zombie thriller. But it's also about realistic characters who the reader can root for (or despise, as the case may be).

Overall, the Zombie D.O.A. series is fast-paced, kickass and scary. It's a real page turner with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you reading late into the night.

Q - There are lots of zombie books out there, why should readers give these books a try?

A - Once again, I can only pass on what my loyal readers have said. I was deeply flattered to hear the series described as, "as good as The Walking Dead," "the best zombie series out there," and "impossible to put down." Other readers have commented on the breakneck pace, unique plot twists and unforgettable characters."

All in all, the series is fast paced, scary and, in parts, deeply moving. If you enjoy post apocalyptic fiction told on a massive scale, with larger than life characters and lots of unexpected plot twists, you'll enjoy this...period.

One day the world will end. Someone has to tell the story, right?

JJ Zep is a musician and author who describes himself as a vegetarian, horror-and-fantasy-fiction-loving heretic and a citizen of nowhere.

His twisted post-apocalyptic tales will frighten, enthrall and entertain you. They'll creep you out and make you laugh and maybe even get you to shed a tear or two.

You'll find heart-stopping action and gore a plenty, if that's your thing. But you'll also find humanity, heroes and heart. After all, stories (even one's about the end of the world) are ultimately about people.

JJ Zep lives in the south of France with his wife, two dogs and three cats.

Ok so been on this zombie novel kick for over a year now. I have read some really, really good ones, and some really, really bad ones. Approx. 70 zombie novels so far. I dont write reviews and i know i should because there are alot I have liked but wrote nothing on them. JJ Zep suprised me out of nowhere with this zombie series. I bought all four after getting hooked by the sample and am now about to purchase the fifth one. All I can say is the series is simply awesome. I judge a book by wether i can put it down or even want to or not. I did not want to put these down, to go to sleep, or to work. Of course i had to, but eargerly looked forward to getting back to them as soon as possible. When you tell yourself "ok i can get by on 5 hours sleep, and go to work tomorrow" Just because you want to read it for one more hour, then I think its a damn good read Thanks JJ for the awesome time spent in your little world of creativity. I will continue to purchase your work.

    Sincerely; Sean

This series was very entertaining and just when you thought that it couldn't get any better it did. You don't come across good zombie books that often let alone a series that picks up from where it leaves off and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I just purchased the 2nd series on my kindle so I'm off to go read the next series and keep up the good work. Ill keep spending money on these books because i know ill always be entertained.

I really hate to leave sad reviews, but had I read my own review here I wouldn't have spent the money. I have one hard and fast rule, if I buy the book, I read it. I struggled through Zombie DOA (complete series 1) and I have to say, it lacks depth. At points during the book(s) I felt I had missed something, maybe an entire book for that matter! In 4 books, we cover 3 years of travels for Chris Collins who is looking for his daughter Ruby. Ruby was ripped from her mother's womb and she was born dead, only to rise again. I did like how some characters responded to the tiny zombie baby, seriously, it was cute, but I kind of lost it when little baby Ruby, a newborn when the books begin, actually grows up to be a 3 year old... How did this happen? Since when do zombies gracefully grow older? There wasn't much of an explanation for this and it was aggravating. I did muddle through all 4 of the books. Thank goodness they were all short. It really took 4 books to make 1 really decent page count for me. Sorry, again, I hate to say it but this was barely readable!

I've been on this "zombie apocalypse" reading kick for the past year or so. I've read about a hundred different books, novellas, and short stories on the subject of a post-apocalyptic earth after our inevitable extinction event goes down. The D.O.A. series was one of my favorites. It has relatable characters, a strong central plot line, and some fun sub-plot events that keep you reading. I ended up reading all 4 books the 1st day I bought the series on kindle. Thanks JJ, keep em coming please.

I'm not going to write a synopsis, but just say this is a very well crafted tale, the author has a gift in spinning an interesting yet different type of story in a crowded field. Do yourself a favor. Read the book and enjoy a zombie novel with heart and a hero.

I liked it, it started fast and kept going. there were some slow spots... but good over all... It lacked depth and complication but still good to read and not wordy - not bogged down with stupid stuff. I need to get the next series but not a prime member anymore I guess I will miss out unless he puts it for free.

The "series" is rather one short book. The story starts off promisingly, with gore.
The zombies are the smart, talking, motor-cycle driving ones. Apparently, this virus (while destroying your brain) makes you SMARTER, FASTER, AND STRONGER because of a special goo developed by a corporation. So, this virus makes you better while causing you to nosh on your family. Oh, sure, destroy the brain then everyone will be a genius. Wait, that's the theory behind No Child Left Behind...
So, although I cannot write a zombie novel, I can read better.
