Zeus (Contemporary Mythos Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 749 ratings

A god-king disguised as a criminal defense lawyer...

Zeus/Zane, King of the Greek gods, holds the world in his palm in both his mortal and godly form… until Hera leaves him, forcing him to uphold Gaea's clause: There must always be a Queen, or he loses his title and part of his power along with it. Time is short. Too bad the one woman he has his sights on wants nothing to do with him. Or does she?

An empath criminal prosecutor...

There's nothing Keira Bazin dislikes more than defense lawyers. So when she discovers Zane Vronti, one of New York's finest, has been brought in on her newest murder case, it's anything but good news. Tensions flare as the two immediately butt heads, but there's something about Zane she can't put her finger on. His emotions are the strongest she's ever felt--borderline overwhelming. Power. Lust. Command. Can she fight her growing attraction for him? Does she want to?

** This is the LAST book in the Contemporary Mythos series. Though all can be read as a stand alone, there are Easter Eggs for those that read in order as books intersect. **

I have discovered that Greek god retellings are one of my favorite things. This is my first by this author and I loved it! I will be revisiting the other books in this series now. Zane aka Zeus is that top male you long to drool for! I adore that Keira played hard to get and didn’t just fall at his feet at the first sign of attention. She challenges Zeus which I thought enhanced the story. I really enjoyed the story and highly recommend.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book the verbal jabs between the two main characters, it was so good. I think how Carly portrayed Zeus well based on what he is portrayed as in mythology. I also loved the chemistry between Keira and Zane. You could feel the electricity between them. (See what I did there).

This is definitely has more spicy scenes than any of the other previous books in the series but isn’t any crazier in my opinion.

I think it was portrayed well overall I think this is one of the top books of the series.

I hadn’t planned to read this book first as it is the sixth in the series, but I saw claims that it could be read as a stand-alone and I really needed a Z for my alphabet challenge. I found the book to be enjoyable, but it did feel like certain parts would have meant a lot more if I knew the previous stories and characters more intimately.

    Pros:

Fast-paced with witty dialogue. This book was fun to read. Even with the slight embarrassment the best friend could cause, there was nothing that went too far to the point of disgust just a lot of cringe which sometimes we all need.

I really appreciate a different look at Zeus. Seen under todays standards he is a creep, but once those traits were not only accepted but they were expected and revered. I think seeing a current day Zeus who experienced all the changes of time would be like any of us looking over our past, a little embarrassed about certain things.

I don’t loathe the dual perspective here because it does allow insights we couldn’t otherwise get and it is consistent and clearly marked.

    Cons:

I hate when characters are just “overwhelmingly sexy and can get anyone they want,” I know that it happens in the real world but it is rare. It’s somewhat acceptable here because he is a mythological creature with magic and powers but it did slow my coming to like him. I also feel like his powers should have had even less effect on the main female character to better balance them from the start.

Part of me wished that Zeus would lose some of his power and have to work to earn it back while becoming worthy of the main female character.

    Lol

    "I'm not calling you that."
    "We'll see."

Heh. This was quite the fun & steamy tale! Hades will probably still be my favorite, but I do love Zeus eventually, and even acquired more of an appreciation for Poseidon & Ares. 😁

Kiera is so perfect for Zeus, of course! I love when they are actually communicating with each other, and the glimpses of his emotions we get to see thru her empathic talent.

Olivia is a riot, and I love that our heroines in this series have amazing best friends! Levin is adorable & sheds light on the humanity of the King of the gods. Good times!

    😍😍😍

Once more Spade managed to make the story feel fresh and new. And that's mostly because both Zeus and his human girl are completely different from the other characters we met so far. Therefore this romance had an entirely different feel and a completely unique atmosphere. What I loved most is that Spade does soften the stories told about Zeus a little, but not too much. Zeus is arrogant and he does abuse his powers once in a while. And yet, I do understand what our heroine sees in him, why she felt challenged by him, why he was the right kind of guy for her. I still bought this story as a love story.

In the world we now live in , there are days I just love to get lost in a good book that will take me away from everything else and make me Lough and cry sometimes, and of course hot love always helps too. This book took me where I wanted to be , it had it all and I loved it from start to finish. If your like me and just love to read this book will not disappoint.

I did enjoy this book as a light, fun read, but the pacing was off and it felt a bit rushed. I would probably pick up more of her books as an easier read, though.

Zeus always comes across as a bit of jerk - whether in the old myths or in current day. Not everything is as it seems, however. His relationships with Hera, his siblings and his son are different from what we've been told in the old stories. With the crushing weight of the universe on his shoulders, he sometimes has to make hard choices and live up to the expectations of those around him, regardless of what he'd like to do.

In this modern day setting, Zeus is a hotshot lawyer. He is the god of justice after all. When he comes up against empath lawyer Kiera, he is immediately intrigued by her beauty, strength and drive. He's afraid that he's finally met his match - the one woman who can put him in his place.

Both Zeus and Kiera are tough and somewhat closed off people. Kiera has to be, in order to keep her empathic gift to sense the feelings of everyone around her from overwhelming her, as well as to succeed in a difficult profession. Zeus keeps everyone at arms' length so that he can do the best job possible when managing the universe. He can't allow himself to get caught up in everyone's day to day struggles or he'll lose his focus on the whole.

Despite what he feels he should focus on - finding a new wife and keeping his throne - Zeus finds himself willing to win Kiera over the traditional way and give her the choice to become his other half. While he has the power to force the issue or find another, he realizes that she is his one.

While both a bit prickly at times, Zeus and Kiera make a pretty fun couple. She is a strong female lead who stands up to the alpha-male and all powerful Zeus, even after she finds out who he truly is. Zeus never quite loses his alpha-ness and sometimes is a bit too arrogant for words, but Kiera does soften him a bit. Together, this pair is an enjoyable read, with some great chemistry between them both physical and intellectual.

Four stars for this modern take on mythological figures.

I loved it, from page one to the last page I absolutely enjoyed this book, BDZ aka Zane aka Zeus is a conniving, sometimes sly often brutally self absorbed being, watching him fall is the ultimate thrill, and Kiera is the perfect lady for him, she didn’t give him an inch of wiggle room. Loved it.

The last in the series has been amazing and one great read. Love the fact that this felt almost like a final book with opportunity to expand in the future.
Zeus character in this book had me gripped and I loved reading this, so good I did it in a day as I couldn’t put it down!

4.0 out of 5 stars Zeus and Kira's story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 11, 2022
I've been waiting for Zeus' story since I started the series and he was more arrogant than I imagined, lol.
Zane is working as a defence lawyer, using his powers to help, but this has left him so arrogant and with such high self confidence that I struggled to like him in the beginning. Kira is an empath working as a prosecutor, also using her unique powers to help, but she has a conscious. There's an instant attraction but Kira is determined to resist, but even she can only last so long, and it gets steamy!
So it took me most of the book to start to like Zeus, but I loved Kira from the start and her best friend Olivia was my favourite character.
Zane starts to realise that his business deal with Kira could be something more, but due to his previous actions he has a huge job ahead of him to prove it to her - but it was entertaining to see him try. He never looses his arrogance but he does show more of an understanding for others and it was good to see him in a different light at the end.
I liked the appearance of the other gods, even more so after reading about some of them in previous books in the series.
The ending is fitting for the characters and ties up their story nicely.
