Soul Bound: A Paranormal Reverse Harem Romance (Arcane Arts Academy Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 out of 5 stars 1,481 ratings

The hallowed halls of Arcane Arts Academy are no place for an orphan who peddles illegal potions and lives out of a caravan…and yet here I am.

After my volatile magic nearly killed a bunch of mortals, I thought for sure I’d be carted off to Kalzir prison, but they sent me here instead. Gave me shackles under the guise of mercy for my crimes.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, there are wolf shifters in the woods on campus, secrets hidden in the walls, and a hot teacher who may or may not want me as much as I want him.

But dangerous distractions aside, I’m about to find out that some secrets have claws and if I’m not careful, these ones will swallow me whole.

NOTE: This series was previously published under the same series title of Arcane Arts Academy however, these versions have been altered to include lots of bonus content and all-new chapters from the guys' points of view!

I'm not sure when I started reading about werewolves but I've gotten into their world and am enjoying it. This series is the second one I've started with Elena Lawson and I like it enough to keep going to see what happens with Harper (a witch) and her werewolf familiars. Good story!

I ended up really enjoying this series. It was always progressing (no super repetitive plot points) and the storyline developed really nicely. There were very few grammatical/spelling errors (maybe 1-2 things per book but nothing that was off-putting, e.g., “mind” instead of “mine”). The romance starts to really heat up around book 4 and the ending of book five is 🥵 🔥 👏

Loved this book so much can't wait to start on the next book in the series. I am stuck at home a lot due to medical issues and reading this was a lot of fun and kept me entertained for a good few hours

I’m very interested in the underlying storyline and the relationship between the characters, but I’m rating it 3.5 stars because the dialogue and the relationships just seemed very lacking. I didn’t form much attachment to any of these characters, and that made it hard to really get into the whole story. But I’m going to read book two because I’m very interested in where it’s going.

It’s dragging a bit in terms of getting to know anyone but the main character. The story is good. But it’s incredibly slow getting there. I’ll start book two soon. Hopefully it will pick up. It’s interesting enough to want to find out more.

I don't usually like academy books but I love this one! The academy setting is balanced perfectly with the plot and characters. This book has it all witches, shifters, secrets, mystery, intrigue, action, a dash of enemies to maybe future lovers and everything in between. I love how the relationship between all of the characters (Harper, Elias, Adrian and Cal) wasn't instantaneous but a slow build. Circumstances brought them all together but the animosity slowly turns to understanding and maybe even more later on. I don't want to give too much away so you'll just have to read to find out! I highly recommend this book and everything Elena writes! 🙂

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Introduction to this Series!
Reviewed in Canada on September 4, 2022
This magic academy book was a fantastic first entry in this series! It held my attention from start to finish, and had me eagerly searching out the next book after the delicious reveal at the end. This book eases readers into the story, making sure to explain how the magic works, subtly introduce the different beings, and hint at the politics of the magical world all without info-dumping. Its quickly moving pace unveils both the main plot for the book and also hints at the overall plot for the entire series, expertly weaving other storylines together to create an intricate web of mystery and intrigue for readers to discover.

The budding romances between the MC and (so far) three others were filled with so much tension and longing, setting up the relationships and roles each character will play without bringing anyone together yet since the MC is underage. While the romances were important, they weren’t the main focus of the storyline, instead taking a backseat to the MC’s adjustment to academy life. As the series goes on I think the relationships will be more integral to the plot, but for this first book, the characters were used to introduce the why-choose aspect without actually having much contact between them and the MC.

Though this book isn’t dark, trigger warnings are included at the end of my review on Goodreads and I recommend having a glimpse to decide if the book is for you, especially since the MC is a minor. Having said that, I thoroughly enjoyed this first entry and look forward to reading the rest in the series!

    Ahh! No how could you!!!!
I can’t believe book two isn’t out for a month?! (3/4 following periodically in the next two months!)

I’ve read all of the previous books and waited for the 4th book for Shifted Mates (can’t remember the series name as I tore through it so fast!)

I was excited to read Harper’s story- after the preview - and wow it’s awesome and even more complex and now I have to wait three more months to read all of them! ^_^

Thankyou for resparking my para-romance book love!

    Catch you June 17th ^_^

This book is everything I've been looking for in fantasy nowadays. It has the perfect balance of mistery, romance and fantasy. it is easy to read and the words form the perfect balance between criativiry and clarity. I loved every second of it. Took me less than 24h to read and I'll be starting the second very soon! Great job, author!

2.0 out of 5 stars Too short, superficial
Reviewed in Germany on January 15, 2023
Maybe I am biased because I hate it if the characters are this young but Harper seems just naive. No idea how the world works, no connections and no plans but she should be so strong and... No.
And I have questions, and not the interesting plot questions... How works this world? Just tidbits mentioned now and then. Everything just barely scratches the surface.
