Abby's Promise Kindle Edition

3.7 out of 5 stars 58 ratings

He walked out of my life eight years ago, and for the first couple of years, I wrote him faithfully. Then life happened, and we lost track of each other. Now he’s back; appearing one day on campus and sweeping me off my feet. He looks the same—rough stubble on his square jaw, broody brown eyes, thick brows that always lifted when I made him laugh. My Jo-Jo has come home after eight years in Afghanistan.

She looks the same as I remember her in high school, but now she’s all woman—sophisticated, educated, and just as curvy as ever. And now she’s a professor, and I’m falling for her all over again like I did at senior prom. War screwed me up, but every day Abby was my saving grace.

She promised one day she’d never let me go, made me promise I’d come back to her. I’ve come back to claim that promise. There’s just one problem: Abby’s moved on. How will I convince the love of my life that a day never went by without her on my mind?

Editorial Reviews

Review

"I LOVED this book! There wasn't just the sweet romance between the two best friends, but the hilarious moments that ensued with Abby's daughter and Joey." - Brigit Rose"I thoroughly enjoyed this story which was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. It is a tribute to the triumph of the human spirit which despite overwhelming adversity soars and eventually flourishes." - Amazon Reviewer"I especially loved how Joey treated both Abby and Zoey, especially as he was a veteran, with a tough home life to boot. He was a true hero and a joy to read. He truly was so easy to love, which made putting up with Abby's whims a bit easier. This was fast-paced and had a delightful conclusion." - Robin L. Taylor

I LOVED this book! There wasn't just the sweet romance between the two best friends, but the hilarious moments that ensued with Abby's daughter and Joey. There were parts where I felt so bad for Abby and everything she had endured, but was still dealing with as she tried to find her way and just be a great mom. Then the times I laughed because Joey got some things he wasn't quite expecting. In fact, one of my favorite lines is when he set a shouting text to Abby claiming, "You didn't tell me they poop this much." I died! This was certainly a treasure to read.

This is a good story that kept me interested. The ending was abrupt and disappointing, the author should have had the couple walk away from the ceremony and leave which would let the reader assume where they were going. The ending just leaves them standing there. Other than that and the numerous typos, I enjoyed reading it.

While I found the characters interesting, there were several places in the book that needed an editor's corrections. I also wondered at the inconclusiveness of Abby's story and the background of what really happened to her marriage to Evan. The writing was generally good, but as I said, some corrections in English and syntax would be helpful.

I just can’t connect with the characters. They made it sound like they’ve kept in contact since he left for the marines after high school and we’re best friends, but when he comes back 8 years later, Abby wants nothing to do with her old best friend? She’s even kind of rude to him. Wants him to drop her class, leave her alone, but then she takes him up on his offer to watch her kid? What? You’ve actively avoided him and just like that you let him watch your kid? Not to mention they are both grown adults but feel the need to lie to their parents about speaking to the other one? Idk, just can’t connect with them at all.

I fell in love with the character's in this novel. Joey was by far my favourite; despite a difficult homelife, he breathed some much life onto the pages. I loved his interactions with Abby and Zoey. I did find Abby at times getting on my nerves. In a good way of course. I highly recommend this sweet romance, with a refreshing plot and engaging characters.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story which was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. It is a tribute to the triumph of the human spirit which despite overwhelming adversity soars and eventually flourishes. This couple along with her beautiful daughter deserve their HEA. Any reader should get comfortable and enjoy this fast moving, easy to read novel.

This story was Somewhat bitter-sweet. Parents have a great responsibility to their offspring. Forcing religion on children without sharing the love and forgiveness of Christ will surely drive them away.

I did not care for the male lead character. After 8 years in the Marines and 3 tours in Afghanistan you would imagine he would have grown a set instead of living with his parents or off the girlfriend. And never did he look for a job during the whole term of school. Also this was in serious need of editing.
