This was a fast paced and very entertaining book, which came as quite a surprise to me. I usually find "space operas" a bit silly and superficial but this had real 3-dimensional main characters, and the pace and tension was not just from continuous action scenes but was also from cleverly developed anticipation of what was coming next in the plot. I don't know a lot about physics, and I definitely don't want my escapism to be turned into a physics class, but this book had just the right amount of concise explanation of some principles to make the whole thing very believable (to me). I also enjoyed the fact that the whole experience of reading this book was not tainted by excessive foul language or unnecessary sex scenes. In fact the author has a very deft touch when it comes to dropping small nuggets of information about his characters and their world that all add to the whole picture and raise the book from entertaining fluff, to thought provoking entertainment. I went straight off and bought the second book and found it just as satisfying :) Hooray, a new author to explore. As some other reviewers have said, there is a need for some editing, but not enough to spoil the read.

This was a good book about a law that they came up with that said it was illegal to put weapons of any kind on a spacecraft , in fact I think that you weren't allowed weapons of size anywhere by law or the punishment was death . We know how that would've worked out today and the same for them , not as well as the politicians thought. ( No big surprise there . I don't think politicians think. ) One man and a few loyal friends decided not to follow that law ( the good guys) and a bunch of well backed others ( the bad guys ) This book has a good storyline to it and the characters are already getting well developed. My only gripe with this book was the word usage or misplaced words and I'm not one to be picky about it but I did have to go back a few times to understand what was said. That's the only reason for the 4 stars. People are always happy to ARC read for you and it only takes a couple to do it and in time you weed out the one's looking for free books . This book is well worth reading and I did enjoy it very much. When it comes to a good space action book it really has to be bad for me not to at least give it a chance . Thumbs up on this one. Nice job Mr McLaughlin. I will be getting the next one .

Accord of Honor was a thoroughly entertaining, action-packed read from start to finish and I am totally hanging out for the next book in the series - hopefully that wont be too far away. Kevin McLaughlin's novel is told through the eyes of the two main characters, Nick and Thomas Stein and provides the reader with an intimite picture of a future where humanity, thanks to the Accords, has been at peace for twenty odd years. Unfortunately, that peace is about to be shattered - something that was foreseen by Nick Stein after the Accords was signed. The Accord was signed after China used a nuke to bomb a Lunar Colony and in retaliation, Nick Stein used a Chinese ship to detonate a nuke over China. In the aftermath the Accord was signed by the nations of Earth banning weapons from space. Nick warned that the Accord, while in principle, was a good idea, in practice, it may leave Earth and its colonies on Mars and the moon vulnerable. Nick's prophetic warning comes to pass as cargo ships and people begin to disappear and Nick's son, Thomas' ship is fired on by pirates near Mars. From that point on the action is non-stop, carrying Nick and Thomas into battles in space where friends are lost and found along the way. There is a touch of humour throughout the book as Nick and Thomas relate their adventures, their sometimes difficult relationship - Dad still trying to protect his son, and Thomas trying to pull away and be his own man. There are some proof-reading hiccups, but they didn't hinder my absolute enjoyment of this novel.

Accord of Honor was a solid effort in an overworked genre. The story was solid and original. The sci-fi technology did not overwhelm the plot, a common problem with many of today's authors. The dialogue was realistic and the characters believable. There were just enough twists and turns to keep a reader's interest. Of you can accept colonization of course the book allows you to suspend disbelief.

"Accord of Honor" is well written in my opinion. The characters are developed and clear. I like the first person point of view and how it changes from one person to the other. The scope is fairly large, which I also like and it seems to keep the laws of physics inviolate.

What I didn't like were the multiple spelling and grammar errors. They took me out of the story from time to time. For example, the word "top" was used in a couple of places instead of the correct word "to" and the pronoun "I" was used as the object of a sentence instead of the correct "me". Nevertheless, I'll be buying "Accord of Mars" because the story outweighs these minor anomalies.

Decided at 5 a.m. that I'd have to take the time to write a review for a book that I didn't want to put down. I love Military Space Operas and this book fits in nicely with other high caliber stories that I have read. The story grabbed my attention at the start and didn't let go. Liked the mystery, characters, and reasonability of the tale.

The only drawback came today when I realized that I had purchased the first 3 books of the series twice. Once as the Accord Series and secondly as the Ragnardk Series. Oh well, if it helps keep this author producing more books of this caliber then it will be money well spent.

Very fast action space adventure. Great characters and superb story telling make this book a delight to read. It took me just over three days to read as each chapter leads into the next and the reader is easily captured in this epic story. This is book one of a series (6 or 7 books?) But is also a stand alone story. I'm interested enough to read at least the next book in the series. Loved the well told story. This writer has real talent. One to follow me thinks

I received an Advance Reader Copy of Accord of Honor and was conquered by the rhythm of the story, a Sci-fi saga to be continued ( I hope) . Kevin O. McLaughlin is really on par with the masters of the kind.

4.0 out of 5 stars good plot but bad spelling

Years ago, space development and the fight for resources caused a war between the nations on Earth, so that, after the war, an Accord was reached which put owning weapons, arming nations or spaceships was put under death penalty. War hero Nick Stein, who vehemently opposed this Accord, was ridiculed.
Years later, a space freighter captained by Nick's son Tom is attacked in space on its way back to the Mars colony. With no weapons and no Armed Force with the exception of a very small one under the leadership of the U.N., how will Earth and its colonies in space be able to fight the threat?
A good story, we with sympathetic and realistic characters, and a good plot, which will draw readers in from the start.
However, in my opinion, the story would have gained by being a bit longer, to enable more depth to the protagonists and the story evolving. Events from the past were shortly explained, enough to get on with the story without losing the thread, but their impact on the protagonists, their effects on the current events were not sufficiently covered. For example, Tom, first time in a conflict situation of this extent, has to cope with a death of a team member under his command. His reaction was more like "oh what would Dad do - ah yes, go on with the mission". I think delving a bit deeper in his feelings in this instance, especially the first time it happened, would have given the book itself more character, more of the "oomph" that I was missing a bit. Other events evolving, especially with some of the side characters, would have been worthy of "fleshing out" a bit. The little bit of romance between Tom and Kel made me think it was thrown in as an afterthought, and again, after a short explanation of the cause of their separation, all of a sudden she's there - no talk about the past, about what happened and why. These are only a couple of examples, and I hope I have not given too many spoilers.
The second thing this books needs is a very thorough editing session - there were numerous spelling mistakes, wrong words, missing words, which after a while became quite annoying.
Although I seemed to have complained about a lot of things here, let me assure you I did like this story, and I would love to get my hands on the next one in this series. As I said before, it's a good plot, not bad storytelling, and the protagonists are diverse interesting.

I have read a few of Kevin McLaughlin's books each one has been read in one sitting.
The Accord of Honor is no exception it grips you right from the start and doesn't let go until the finish.
Well written characters and a storyline that pulls you in right from the start makes this a series that you want to find out what happens next.
Cannot wait until the next book.
