"Very entertaining. I highly recommend this book to the permanent library of any reader that appreciates a very well written mystery, with some twists and an intelligent plot. You will not be disappointed. Excellent way to spend a cold weekend!"
--Books and Movie Reviews, Roberto Mattos (regarding Murder in the Manor)

BEACHFRONT BAKERY: A KILLER CUPCAKE is the debut novel in a charming and hilarious new cozy mystery series by #1 bestselling author Fiona Grace, whose bestselling Murder in the Manor (A Lacey Doyle Cozy Mystery) has nearly 200 five star reviews.

Allison Sweet, 34, a sous chef in Los Angeles, has had it up to here with demeaning customers, her demanding boss, and her failed love life. After a shocking incident, she realizes the time has come to start life fresh and follow her lifelong dream of moving to a small town and opening a bakery of her own.

When Allison spots a charming, vacant storefront on the boardwalk near Venice, she wonders if she could really start life anew. Feeling like it’s a sign, and a time to take a chance in life, she goes for it.

Yet Allison did not anticipate the wild ride ahead of her: the boardwalk, filled with fun and outrageous characters, is pulsing with life, from the Italian pizzeria owners on either side of her who vie for her affection, to the fortune tellers and scheming rival bakery owner nearby. Allison yearns to just focus on her delicious new pastry recipes and keep her struggling bakery afloat—but when a murder occurs right near her shop, everything changes.

Implicated, her entire future at stake, Allison has no choice but to investigate to clear her name. As an orphaned dog wanders into her life, a devoted new sidekick with a knack for solving mysteries, she starts her search.

Will they find the killer? And can her struggling bakery survive?

A hilarious cozy mystery series, packed with twists, turns, romance, travel, food and unexpected adventure, the BEACHFRONT BAKERY series will keep you laughing and turning pages late into the night as you fall in love with an endearing new character who will capture your heart.

This clean cozy had me shaking my head at times in wonder and laughing out loud other times. Allison Sweet was a pastry chef in the French tradition. She worked at a prestigious restaurant as a sou chef who only had one job--to make creme brule. Her boss was impossible and finally one day she quit (you will laugh at what she does just before) and her boss fired her at the same time. She goes home to her free loading boyfriend--he tells her he is leaving her--. She goes to meet up with her brother at a boardwalk and is accosted by a monkey and a fortune teller---- While walking the boardwalk with her brother she spots a vacant store--she always wanted to own her own bakery------- There are a couple of twists and turns as Allison tries to figure out who murdered a man--she knows she didn't do it--but everyone else seems to think she did! I am sure that you will enjoy this one--and I for one am looking forward to the others as they come out in this new series.

Interesting storyline a little different from the usual murder mystery involving cooking or baking. Why does the new bakery in town have no business? I liked the way that the author brought the Ali around to the investigation and finally solving the murder.

Sometimes you just need a simple, light read and that's why I occasionally turn to a cozy mystery. But I found myself frequently irritated by the actions taken by the main character. My main source of irritation is the way she has bounced through life and appears so clueless about how the world works. She opens a bakery on a whim by seeing a building in a location that is appealing to her, and, voila, she's in business in just a few days. I know readers don't want to hear the details about getting a business license, and inspections, and finding the money upfront for supplies and equpment. But, good grief, at least allude to these challenges.

The main character bounces around town gathering clues about a murder and then acts on bits of info without digging any further. It was a bit too much. She is a trained chef with a great education. She is apparently intelligent in so many ways. But she puts herself in potentially dangerous situations. It doesn't make sense. Even in a cozy mystery I expect the characters' motivations and actions to make sense -- or at least make sense by the end of the book. Overall, it was just an average read.

This story of Ali's dream will tug at your heart strings & have you laughing at her determination. Ali just wanted to open her own French Pastry place after being let go or her walking out of her job in a fancy restaurant, it depends on if you believe her boss fired her or as she says she quit.
The trials & tribulations she went through would have had anyone else giving up. Meeting an array of strange shop owners on the Boardwalk and Ali's determination to get to the bottom of things will have your head spinning. Loved this story!

This was a very good book to read. I found myself hoping that the bakery would be successful, and it proved that with hard work, good friends, and a little luck your dreams can come true.

This was a fun beginning to a new series and what a great location for a bakery! I liked Ali, but I really liked her brother Teddy. He really cracked me up sometimes but he got her to do something she probably wouldn't have done on her own after losing her job. From a new cranky competitor neighbor business to a cute surf shop dude, the boardwalk has all types of business. Some might have been even a tad...shady? Ali knew that someone was hiding something, so like any good new sleuth, she started investigating. She may not have had a human sidekick, but little pup Scruff sounded like a great buddy for her.

I didn't see the plot moving the way it did due to all the red herrings, but it was a good showdown and ending. I never really would have guessed whodunit. I think the author did a great job of making readers (at least it worked for me) dislike the mean people in the story. I really loved the very end. Poor Ali had so many awful things happen to her throughout the book, that it was awesome to see her get a good break for once. I'm really anxious to see what she and Scruff get into in the next book!

Allison Sweet finds herself out of a job and her boyfriend runs out of her because he discovers that he is gay.
Thanks to a soothsayer and the soothsayer’s monkey, Allison and her brother Teddy find themselves in a new place with a shop to run a bakery.
Then there is a murder and in a town where Allison has very few friends, she finds that she is also accused of murder of a man who had an argument with her just the day before.
Interesting characters, especially enjoyed Fat Tony’s entrance and liked the way that Allison’s relationship with her mother was brought out.
Cute cozy mystery. Fast simple read.

After her life blows up in L. A., a pastry chef finds herself in a small beach front town starting up her own new bakery. Things go from bad to worse when she finds herself a prime suspect in a murder case.

This is the first book in the cozy mystery series, A Beachfront Cozy Mystery series, and it is a good read. The characters are quirky and fun, with unique personalities complete with strengths and weaknesses. The story is told from the main character’s point of view allowing a glimpse into her emotions, thoughts, motivations and actions. The storyline flows smoothly. The mystery has numerous suspects, subtle clues and twist and turns. I always look at the first book in a series as an introduction to the characters and setting along with a sense of what to expect in the next books. I feel that this book met my expectations and peaked my interest in this cozy mystery series. I look forward to the next book.

A nice, easy read to enjoy over the weekend.
The ‘mystery’ part didn’t start until 50%, but I appreciated the character development and build up.
The story had me gripped and I happily didn’t put it down until I finished, it was good.
Enjoyed this one. Will now look for others from the same author, thank you.
