    This is the first book in the Shadow Sentinels World, a spinoff of the Shadow Sentinels series. We first met Owen in Wrecked, Book One of the Shadow Sentinels. He is a partner to Connor, a member of the Supernatural Bureau of Investigation (SBI). He has found his mate in Selina, a woman who was rescued, along with Devon, her baby son, but she has chosen to be with Shane, the Canadian alpha who we also met in the Shadow Sentinals books. They have moved back to Canada with Shane's pack, leaving Owen to continue as Connor's beta. Owen has become surly and easily riled because of his longing to have Selina and Devon by his side. He has been going on missions to close the remaining portals and kill any demons who had escaped, when he is ordered to take a team to Canada, to Shane's pack. Shane had been missing for a couple of weeks, disappearing while investigating the disappearance of several pack members. Owen has to fight his connection to Selina while trying to determine the reason for the missing pack members, making his job much more difficult. Will he solve the mystery of the missing pack members? Will Selina retract her rejection of Owen, accepting him as her mate? I recommend reading the Shadow Sentinels series before you dive into this first book in the Shadow Sentinels World series, to better understand the back story of Owen, Selina, and Shane, although this can be read as a stand-alone. It's an exciting continuation of the Shadow Sentinel's story, with lots of twists and turns before we have all the answers.

    Although I just jumped into this story it was a wonderful story. I thought Devon was the one to enjoy the most because Selina was at times annoying and stubborn. This is my first read by this author and I look forward to reading from the beginning to understand the story more.

    I actually read this book as soon as it was released, and LOVED IT. But then I went back the other day and did a re-read, in preparation for the release (today!) of the next book in this world, and thoroughly enjoyed it all over again! The main Shadow Sentinels series was one of my favorite reads of 2021, and I read A LOT of books last year (almost 200). So, of course I absolutely had to read the spin-offs to check in on the awesome MCs, but to also learn more about all the fantastic supporting characters, of which Owen and his love interest are the first to be focussed on. The story is excellent, the steam is great, the action is intense and suspenseful, and the push and pull between Owen and Selina is frustrating, yet believable. Add in an absolutely adorable and smart half-demon three year old playing match-maker, and it really is such a great story with all the feels.

    FYI, if you are reading this review and are new to Karen’s Shadow Sentinels world, then I highly recommend going and reading her main series first (a prequel and 3 novel-length books), then come back and dive into Owen and Lina’s book, and finally Rawson’s and Ava’s book (released today)!!

    I didn’t read Shifter Sentinels before this, and I was lost for most of the book as a result. The character are all well developed with a complex back story, which left me confused. Eventually I gave up. Not because it’s a bad book, but because you really do need to read the SS series to have any idea of what’s going on and to understand the characters and their actions.

    I'll start by saying that I didn't read the Shadow Sentinels series and at times I kind of regretted not to. There are a lot of moments when characters and situations would make a lot more sense if I had read the previous series which introduces this world. However, the author goes back and explains pretty clearly the situations over time theought the book so, if at first you get a bit lost about who and what, keep going, it'll be explained later.

    I have really enjoyed Selina and Owen's story. As usual for a first book, there is a lot of world and storyline setting but it is very well done and flows within the characters' relationship and chemistry. I liked the take on werewolves and wereanimals too.

    The chemistry between these two is h0t! But then Devon comes in and everything gets sweet and cute and so lovely, despite all the darkness and tensions and danger they're in!

    I am about to start Broken Alpha and I can't wait for the next book in the series to be available too !
