Home For Christmas: A Gay Christmas Step-brother Romance Kindle Edition

4.1 out of 5 stars 267 ratings

Fate threw him a wicked twist. Or maybe it was the magic of Christmas. Maybe it was just going home.

T’was the night before Christmas—three actually—and nothing was quiet about the club Declan was at. He'd been looking forward to the masquerade party since he’d been summoned home. He usually kept a safe distance between himself and his family; it was easier to safeguard his secret. Being gay wasn’t all he was hiding. The truth was far worse—he’d fallen for his stepbrother, Ollie.

Crossing paths with an enticing stranger at the masquerade party flipped his world upside down, leaving him a changed man. They came together when they needed it most and what followed was one seriously sexy pre-Christmas set of fireworks exploding. But he was soon alone again, only surrounded by vapid socialites. Declan’s love of the holidays was waning, and he was regretting his trip home.

Then Ollie walked in, and everything got a whole lot more complicated. Declan was torn—unable to get the sexy, nameless stranger out of his head and Ollie out of his heart.

Going home for Christmas would either break him or… well, Declan didn’t have that quite figured out.

Home For Christmas is a stand-alone, Christmas gay love story by Ann Grech, featuring a steamy one-night stand, a closeted hero, wrestling stepbrothers, numerous references to Woody and Buzz, singing in the shower, and a feel-good second chance romance.

By day Ann Grech used to live in the corporate world and could be found sitting behind a desk typing away at reports and papers or lecturing to a room full of students. She graduated with a PhD in 2016 and is now an over-qualified nerd. But the grind got old, and the voices got louder. She still has the librarian look nailed, but she’s a little freer to be herself now.

She’s never entirely fit in and loves escaping into a book—whether it’s reading or writing one. But she’s found her tribe and loves her book world family. She dislikes cooking, but loves eating, can’t figure out technology, but is addicted to it, and her guilty pleasure is Byron Bay Cookies. Oh and shoes. And lingerie. And maybe handbags too. Well, if we’re being honest, we’d probably have to add her library too given the state of her credit card every month (what can she say, she’s a bookworm at heart)!

In 2019 she was an Award-Winning Finalist in the Fiction: LGBTQ category of the 2019 Best Book Awards sponsored by American Book Fest for her story In Safe Arms.

She also publishes her raunchier short stories under her pen name, Olive Hiscock.

4.5 stars. Lovely holiday book. Well written, good storyline and likable characters. Stepbrothers Oliver and Declan have both been hiding; who they are and how much they love one another. Sure the other was straight and worried what their parents would think they worked hard to conceal their attraction. Once things come to light they're both all in. They're still hiding from their parents, or so they think. I loved Declan's mom! She just kept surprising me with her nonchalant acceptance. Sweet ending.

Stepbrothers, Ollie and Declan, neither "came out" to the other. Now, years later at a masquerade bash at a gay club near home; masks on, they hook up. Holy Hotness Batman ! Declan doesn't know who the magnificent Batman was. For the holidays at home they talk, hang out at their folks home, and still, Declan wants Ollie like he did years ago.
Later they get caught in the rain and Declan saves Ollie's life from the careening truck. All bets were off after that, because each man decides to tell the other, they want to be together. The life threatening event brought the strong emotions forward; fears fell away.
Great characters, just enough angst, plus their hot sexy times, makes this fun.
This is a terrific short story and the epilogue was fun. ENJOY !

Maybe I'm reading this on the wrong day but there seems to be a torrent of (sometimes repetitive) exposition with little actual character development. Something that really ruins a story for me is being TOLD what an amazing conversation/interaction two characters have but never see a word of that conversation or know anything except 'they had an incredible time'. This isn't helped by the description of the two MC's as young step brothers constantly bickering and fighting then one avoiding the other for a few years but suddenly they're reunited and are delighted to see each other - when did that happen? One last thing - one brother refers to the other as 'big bro' or similar several times, but is sad when he's referred to in turn as 'little bro' once - because he doesn't see the older guy as a brother. Then don't call him that!

Step-brothers Declan and Ollie have a fantastic bond. They're closer than brothers. Seeing them together makes you understand where Declan is coming from when he admits he's in love with Ollie. Their chemistry comes alive on the page. You're rooting for Ollie to see the great guy in front of him while worrying what everyone's reactions will be when Declan's truth -- and Declan -- come out. Such a fantastic, sweet, sexy read!

Wonderful love 💕❤️ story! I immediately fell in love of Declan and Ollie both as individuals and as a couple.

The plot is steady and all the pieces come together like a puzzle at just the right time, and I was on the edge of me seat a couple of times.
Truck accident, and on the stairs 🔥😲😊 name a couple. I loved the club scene! I love the description of the tattoo. Very believable story! They have a HEA.
Their parents were awesome! I wouldn’t mind catching up with Declan and Oliie someday.

Hiding your true feelings for someone you love is painful. Especially if it goes on for years. But finding out your feelings are returned makes the unveiling that much sweeter.

A first time read for the author with this book. And I loved it. Beautifully written so that the hot chemistry jumps through at you. This had me right from the first page. The title of this is perfect for this short story too. Yah I'll be stalking this author now lol.
Declan loved visiting Church club when he was home. Days before Xmas they held a masquerade party. A hot connection to Batman made Green Arrow zing. Includes: closeted gay, stepbrother fantasies, danger, and hot hot sexy scenes

A very sweet story of a family coming together because of Christmas, and growing closer as they finally get to learn more about each other.

Declan and Ollie are step-brothers, but it's something that happened later in life for them. Growing up as only children of single parents they fought viciously when they were forced together as a family. As Declan began to realize he also has feelings for his new brother he ran, getting a job far away from family and trying to move on with his life. Now coming home for Christmas after some major changes in his life, he meets a man at a bar that makes him think he could have something with someone other than Ollie. But a hookup doesn't leave chances for more, and as Declan again spends time with Ollie old feelings come roaring back. The more time the spend together, the more it looks like Ollie might have some of those feelings too.

I loved how this story dealt with the whole family. Declan has more concerns than just being in love with his step brother. He has never come out of the closet, and is positive it would ruin his family. Declan is afraid it would be heartbreaking for his mother, while he is positive his step-father would throw him out of the family. Family is important to him, so Declan chooses keeping familial love over coming out, or ever pursuing Ollie. Declan is also an honourable character, for as long as he remains in the closet he won't pursue a romantic relationship, as he would never hide someone he loves from his family. Declan spends the story grappling with his feelings while worrying about his family.

This was an excellent story and well worth the read!

Another great short story by Ann Grech. Even with its short length, you still get great character development and an interesting and we'll written storyline. With this being a relationship that has been years in the making, I didn't feel like it was rushed or that it was insta-love - something that is common with short stories. The chemistry between Ollie and Declan was palpable and I loved how things played out between them. A great read, and one I'd recommend.

This was sooooo sweet! I loved this book for all the feels. It was everything a Christmas story should be...a tiny bit angsty, but mostly just lovely! Enough suspense to keep me reader engaged and with the HEA I was rooting for, I was left very satisfied by this Yuletide tale. I was intrigued to find out how it all played out as the relationship between the step brothers and the rest of the family was already established. How would the parents accept the boys' love for one another etc, but the author demonstrated great skill in the way she developed this aspect of the story and I was very happy with how it panned out. There are so many Xmas books out right now and with so many to choose from, I am glad that I have read this one. I enjoy Ann Grech's books and would recommend them all.
