A Brilliant Story
Well Sloane has done it again what a beautiful story. The twists and turns as well as heartbreak and secrets that happened on the Ranch. I fell in love with Xavier he came across as a strong person even though everyone hated him and the only person who gave him a chance was his secret crush’s Uncle Curtis who had secrets of his own. I absolutely loved this book. Sloane Kennedy is certainly a master of her craft, I would highly recommend you read this book.

    This is a MAGNIFICENT Book. Brooks is from NYC . He is a young man who just wants to make his Father proud. Eden is a small Wyoming town where his Uncle owns a Ranch. A place where he will meet his past. Xavier is on Parole. Getting his job back on the Ranch was like coming home. Working hard with the horses was a dream come true. Until the city boy arrived. SLOANE KENNEDY made this a page turner. This is a REMARKABLE story. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!!!!

    I was so excited to read this book based on the bio. Such a great storyline! Couldn’t have loved all the twists at the end more (although I had called a few of them)! There was a little too much inner monologue while people were talking. I have a short attention span so if someone says 1 thing and the reply from the other person isn’t for 2 pages, I’ve already forgotten what the first person said by then. Otherwise, this was a great book! Would recommend.

    This friends-to-enemies-to-lovers tale starts out with an act of unprovoked violence and proceeds through a series of alternating POV chapters that are slow in revealing how Brooks and Xavier could have come to hate and distrust each other a decade ago and maintain that hatred when their paths cross once again in Eden, Wyoming.

    When the action started to turn following a plot twist that is basically duplicated in reverse toward the ending, author Kennedy begins to unfold what really is the problem between these two. Between the lines we have a very transparent exploration of the sadness in ranch owner Uncle Curtis which culminates in a wonderful but heartbreaking revelation near the end.

    There is also a smashing plot twist which is initiated by the appearance of Xavier's mother, a twist that begins to unravel the never explored reasons behind the estrangement that came about between Xavier and Dylan, who used to be teenage mentor and puppy-love follower respectively.

    The heated love scenes betwen these two men are something else--I was not really prepared for how they might develop but when they did they were brilliantly handled and very long, and very realistic and credible. (Caveat: I thought the cover is misleading, hinting that they were in their mid-30s when neither had reached 30 as yet).

    Yes, this is the beginning of a series, and the next two protagonists are introduced in a serendipitous way in this one. Even though they seem to be as compatible as the North Pole and Equator, their story looks like it might be a good one--though it will have to be really good to equal this one.

    Mit „Always Mine“ startet Sloane Kennedy die neue Serie „A Love in Eden“. Das Setting in einer auf einer Ranch in der Nähe einer ländlichen Kleinstadt im tiefsten Wyoming unterscheidet sich von dem der meisten anderen ihrer Bücher. Während bei den „Protectors“ keiner der Männer verbergen muss, zu welchem Geschlecht er sich hingezogen fühlt, ist das für Brooks und Xavier nicht sooo einfach. Die Umgebung, in der sie aufeinander treffen, ist leider nicht gerade für ihre Toleranz bekannt. Die beiden überlegen deshalb sehr genau, wieviel von ihrer gegenseitigen Anziehung sie öffentlich zeigen. Es ist wirklich traurig und sehr berührend zu lesen, dass es eben immer noch nicht überall selbstverständlich ist, Liebe in all ihrer Vielfalt zu respektieren.
    Die Story an sich ist unheimlich spannend: Man spürt sofort die Funken zwischen den beiden Männern, aber auch ihr Misstrauen und ihre Zweifel. Ihre ersten Berührungen – auch die intimen – sind ebenso leidenschaftlich wie wütend. Der Sex wird - weil es eben ein Roman von Sloane Kennedy ist – explizit und kochend heiß beschrieben. Aber während ihre Körper schon wissen, dass sie für einander bestimmt sind, haben Herz und Verstand noch Zweifel. Brooks kann nicht vergessen, was in der einen Nacht passiert ist und Xavier hat geschworen, ein Geheimnis zu wahren. „Die“ Nacht drängt sich immer wieder zwischen die beiden …
    Wenn es eine winzige Kritik gibt, dann vielleicht diese: Auch wenn das Buch abwechselnd aus Brooks und Xaviers Sicht geschrieben ist, so nimmt doch Xavier klar die Hauptrolle ein. Sein Charakter ist facettenreicher und geheimnisvoller, gegen ihn bleibt Brooks ein wenig blass. Brooks entwickelt sich zwar weiter, allerdings scheint er die zehn Jahre, in denen Xavier im Knast war, in einer Blase gelebt zu haben.
    Übrigens: Das Buch lebt auch von einer sehr berührenden Side-Story um Brooks Onkel Curtis, die gleichzeitig wunderschön und doch unendlich traurig ist. Dabei hat der alte Mann es faustdick hinter den Ohren. *grins* Das ist aber ein weiteres Geheimnis!!!

    Fazit: Trotz der kleinen Kritik solide und richtig gut geschrieben. Spannend bis zum Schluss und mit einigen wirklich herzzerreißenden Szenen! Dafür gibt es von mir zufriedene 4,5, aufgerundet 5 Punkte und eine Leseempfehlung

    Didn’t like Brooks at the start, really stuck up sod. Xavier was an amazing strong, sweet, broken man. Loved the story it had so much meaning and real look at the difference between having money and not. I agree with one review Brooks father and Xaviers mother it was rape not an affair, my heart broke for her. It would of been good to see the outcome of what happened 10 yrs ago and see that Brooks dad got punished. The love and attraction between Brook and Xavier jumped off the pages, they were perfect together. A real beautiful, real, heartfelt story.

    I really loved the story and the characters but... I do prefer my books a bit less dramatic. Because I tend to be invested in the characters so much that it truly breaks my heart when they undergo difficult situations. So, now and then I CAN read a "darker" story and truly enjoy it but my weak heart suffers too much to do it on a daily basis. I'm interested in seeing how the next story develops but I really really hope it's not going to be as hard as this one 🙏🏽.
