From the Back Cover
What would you do if you were given €20 in Greece with an email address scribbled on it:
1. Spend it?
2. Slip the suspect counterfeit bill into an enemy’s birthday card?
3. Send an email, hoping it will lead to you finding everlasting love?
Brad, a hopeless romantic, chose the latter...
Two years later, his love life remains a disaster and his career is misfiring. As he’s about to walk Spain’s fabled Camino de Santiago to ponder some profound life changes, Brad receives a reply.
Incredibly, it’s from a woman who lives on the pilgrimage path, far away from where the money first crossed his palm. She invites him to sleep… ‘on her house.’
Hiking 900km on the Road to Santiago to a blind date with the mystery €20 woman, Brad has the adventure of a lifetime.
His heart is warmed by fellow pilgrims and natives who give him more reason than ever to believe in the kindness of the human spirit; he befriends a hilarious Hungarian who speaks English in song titles and has his raison d’être revealed to him by a barefoot Mayan mystic.
Will he meet his happily-ever-after along the way too?

- Reviewed in the United States on March 10, 2025I returned from my first Camino trip and I was wanting to stay in touch with everything related to the Camino - the friends I made there, movies on YouTube, and podcasts. It was from the podcast that I learned about Brad. He has been a constant companion to me, as I went through my own Camino 'withdrawl.' Luckily for me, after a couple of weeks from been back from the Camino, I am already able to schedule my next one. Brad's book brought back all the memories, and he put into great narrative and humor all the amazing and magical things that happen during the Camino, including also the challenges, the crying and the laughing. I am very grateful for this book.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 27, 2020It was ok as far as Camino memoirs go. Not my favorite and probably won't reread/listen again, like I have several others. The author seemed to like to make fun of people and objectify women. I kept hoping there'd be some kind of epiphany, but the closest we get is when he is relaying a life changing conversation he'd had with someone the previous evening where he learned he needs to see the good in people, but minutes before he'd spent a lengthy time ranting and complaining and disparaging "plastic pilgrims."
I listened to the whole thing because I was hoping for some redemption, but didn't witness any.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2020Heading to the Camino myself....I've been reading other accounts of it, more so since my plans have had to be put on hold due to COVID19. I purchased a pile of recommendations from others on a social media site, sat up one night, researching the favorites of others. My list only had those that had humor! Brad's book has humor and I love that he, being a songwriter, utilized his talent for putting sentences together, creating a canvas of texture with descriptions, which kept me turning pages. I loved reading about his self discovery, his growth through his business, family life, athletic life, social life, and finding a balance eventually, although the reader can certainly see he teetered A LOT! The downside was that he felt it important to share the sexual experiences, of others and himself. TMI, as a generation behind me would say. It wasn't needed. His adventure was fabulous without it. If Brad ever did a rewrite, I would suggest he leave that out so more age groups could be inspired by his journey! It won't be the first book I'd recommend if anyone asked me what to read about Camino adventures, but I won't say not to read it if it comes up in conversation.

- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2020I have read dozens of Camino retellings. This, by Brad Chermside, is my most enjoyed. Brad is an excellent writer with no fear of exposing his insecurities and weaknesses, physical or social. His many metaphors are original and laugh-out-loud funny. He used several interesting writing techniques to keep me in suspense. The most effective being, from the start of the narrative, finding out if when he met the never met mystery woman, who was the catalyst for him beginning his journey, and he would click. It was eventually answered. Highly recommend the book. Hat's off to Mr Chermside on an excellent read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice
This is a super account of a young man and the triumphs and tribulations he went through on the trail. Good insight if you want to know some of the emotional and physical experiences you will encounter along the way.

5.0 out of 5 stars A nice long walk
I wasn't sure I would like this book when I started reading. Once I got to know Bradley a little better I found it hard to put this book down. He takes you with him on this pilgrimage with wonderful descriptive words that help you envision the trail and the people he meets. His honesty in revealing his inner journey was intriguing and so interesting. I feel like I know him as a friend and I wish him well.

5.0 out of 5 stars A beautifully written, thought provoking book.
I loved this book. I really did even after the totally mortifying discovery that I had already read it (and - in italics - remembered not one word).
Never mind, I've never had a good memory, let alone now in my dotage. I enjoyed every page. the lovely descriptions, the wit and the thoughtfulness. The author meets so many well described pilgrims that one almost feels as though one has sat round a table with them, sharing the conversation. Do read this, you'll be so pleased you have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finding joy in simple things and learning to love yourself
What a wonderful, funny, inspiring book. It makes me want to walk the El Camino trail to experience the wonderful characters and the beauty of the trail. But more than that, finding oneself and learning to love that person is the true “romance” of the tale. Well done Brad Chermside; it is not often that I enjoy a book as much as I enjoyed this one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great insight into a great adventure
This book is printed by Amazon and feels a bit cheap and self-made, however the content is great. The author is very relatable and at times has some lovely descriptions. I read from cover to cover and fully enjoyed it. I'm reading a lot of Camino books as planning to do this as soon as I can get the time off from work. At times I cringed at his cheesy sense of humour - but that's a personal opinion - others might like it.
