Lore of Arcana Omnibus Kindle Edition

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 1 rating

Travel from a Land of Skies isolated in space to civilisations flourishing underground, from a chaos curtain to sacred sites and more, in this epic Fantasy/Sci-Fi omnibus.

Lore of Arcana Omnibus includes The Infinity Mantle, The Kinfire Tree, The Drowned Throne and The Dragon Circle and delves from the deep and forgotten past into a speculative future, knowing time cannot be truly measured. Time moves between realms and reality in a fashion contradictory to our present, and exposes creatures of myth and legend, and fabled figures thought lost to antiquity.

One man strides through all, Maghdim Medaillon in one hand, sword in the other. He is the Keeper of the Dragon, Lifegiver and Destroyer. This is Rayne’s journey, descendent of a mighty bloodline, and this is a mighty tale.

Elaina lives in magical Ireland after leaving the surrounds of magnificent Table Mountain at the southern tip of Africa. Having lived in both Ireland and New Zealand, she now realises Ireland’s mists are close to perfection. When writing she puts into words her travels and dreams, because she believes there is inspiration in even the most outrageous tale.

After studying Purchasing Management and working in the formal sector as a buyer, she chose to raise and home-school her three children. She started writing novels around 2002, moving from children’s stories, poetry and short stories to concentrate on larger works.

While her main body of work has been her Fantasy Series (Lore of Arcana, Lore of Reaume and Lore of Sanctum), she is a diverse writer and her credits include novels and shorter stories in the Contemporary, Humorous, Paranormal, Dystopian, Alternate History and Romantic genres, as well as non-fiction. Several of her books have been translated into Spanish, Italian, Portuguese and German, and many are available in audio also.

Ireland’s ancient past has influenced her writing, gifting her work a Celtic twist, while the majesty of New Zealand has led her to mountaintops and extraordinary vistas. The vibrancy of Africa has had much to do with the inspirational side of Elaina’s work. The colours and diversity of nature itself fires her imagination.

Come with her to places familiar and far, far away!

If you like to settle in for long journeys through places with ancient histories, this is the story for you. The Lore of Arcana series follows a fellowship of humans and immortal guardians across the world Valeris in an attempt to save their world from the forces of chaos from invading through a dimensional rift that has isolated Valeris for generations. It's that mash-up of science fiction and fantasy involving lost colonies and where magic is a kind of forgotten technology human stumbled on after defeating Valeris' original inhabitants and subsequently mysticized and later banned after sorcery brought a near-apocalypse. The immortal guardians are ancient aliens who keep the peace between worlds but wield power that make them seem like gods (in some cases literally) to the techologically-regressed humans. I enjoyed the layered worldbuilding in this story and its underlying the ancient history, along with the twists I didn't see coming.

Without giving away spoilers, in book 1 the big bad, Infinity, contrives a game where a mixed group of 12 mortals and immortals must undertake a series of quests to save their world from invasion by the forces of chaos, the Arcana. Book 1 is a slow burn as it sets up the world, its rules, and all the players on stage but picks up the pace as it goes along and takes a few twists I didn't see coming. There's a lot going on and at first I was overwhelmed keeping up with all the relationships between the characters but after a while it all came together and the larger picture emerged. There's a lot to chew on in this book, so my recommendation is to settle in and take it easy. By the time you reach the end of book 1 you'll go full speed into book 2.

Note: With over 1700 pages in the omnibus edition, I'm updating to my review as I complete each book in the series.
