- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2021This book is on fire. The MCs absolutely burn up the pages. There’s also such a profound meaning behind their struggle and how they end up coming together. Both MCs battle through who they’ve always been to become better both together and on their own. I loved every part of this book, but the thing that most impressed me was the author’s ability to smoothly transition through the plot in a way that subtly allowed time to pass to showcase character growth and progresses without having to specifically point it out. This book may have insta lust and all the chemistry but their love for each other was a beautiful discovery & def fought for, it’s basically the best of both worlds!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 29, 2021Would really like to give a 4 1/2, but that's not possible, so 4 it is.couldnt get to a 5 only because I wanted, just a bit more. Maybe I'm just greedy.A really great story. Told in sweet and tender thaughts. I laughed, shed some tears, felt the hurt and huffed with some anger. Kate made it easy to love what these two found.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 7, 2022I'm struggling to give this 3 stars, because I did love the story. I enjoyed the fake boyfriend trope, but loved that the story was taken further than the just the weekend they were pretending. You get to see beyond the weekend when they realize their fake relationship was hardly really fake.
I also did love the two characters. Jace's character was fairly well developed and his motivation and actions were mostly clear and made sense. This was less true with Callahan. Callahan's actions made sense, but his motivation wasn't decent enough. Or maybe it seemed that way because the two characters so different and Callahan just didn't have the same easily identifiable background.
But ultimately, when I finished the story I felt something was missing. The issue lies somewhere with the characters. The ending is sweet though and worth being disappointed with character development.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 30, 2021That was a hard fought kind of journey to love. It was hard. Both men had me wanting to strangle them at certain points of the story. But that just showed how much they still had to learn and to work on themselves. And they did. They worked on themselves and got the love both of them deserved at the end. The writing was amazing. The smexy was yum pictures and all, the side characters..... counting the days until their book. Their book will be amazing. The end the very last few pages, summed up the story in such a brilliant way.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2022First book by this author and it was well written, easy read. I enjoyed the story I just felt that the chemistry was off a bit but other then that the guys were good together. I’m honestly looking forward to book 2
- Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2022This is a really good book. I am not surprised but it blew me away with its characters. Life hasn’t been easy for either Jace or Callahan. They come from completely different backgrounds but they have both been dealt rough hands. Both are trying to figure their lives out but it takes a fake weekend to help them realize that there are some serious truths within one real good lie.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2021*SPOILERS for side characters*
Kate Hawthorne has this habit of writing characters that I fall completely in love with, and she's done it again! Jace and Callahan could not fit better together. Their romance is hard fought and won and I can't wait to see where they go next. And Sebastian and Remington? Swoon! Remington seems like such a sweetheart and I can't wait to get to know him better. Sebastian is struggling so much and I want to see him get his happy ending!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 16, 2021I really enjoyed this story. Had some very steamy parts and I really liked the opposites attract. Only criticism was that sometimes it was hard to follow the dialogue

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful
This is really good. Watching these two MC's with the sharpest of edges accidentally cutting each other whilst trying to protect their softest parts is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time.
The prose is superb, the chemistry is smoking and the tension is such that I couldn't put it down.
Absolutely breathtaking.

4.0 out of 5 stars Callahan ❤️ Jace
Enjoyed Callahan and Jace's story
it was emotional and sexy
with great character development
(I like my fake/pretend boyfriend books a little more angsty but that's just me ;))
Like this, with their bodies pressed together and their breath mingled, Callahan hoped Jace saw who he really was…who he could be if given the chance.
plus amazing friends
(very excited for their story ;))
“You should ask him on a date,” Remington suggested. “Should I?” “An apology date. I’m sorry I ran away from you without using my words like an adult, let’s start fresh.”

4.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic chemistry
This was another fab book from kate Hawthorne. She really gives you depth, you know the characters so well you feel you are with them. The reason I couldn't give it a 5stars was because some of the back and forth of their emotions and thought processes was confusing but that was on me because I have a different thought process to these two MC's so I couldn'tquite relate. There is great sexual chemistry and the intimate scenes were really good. Can't wait to read the next book.

3.0 out of 5 stars So much potential but overall, meh
I could have really loved these characters. I did love these characters, but the story gave me a bit of whiplash from about a 1/3 of the way in. The characters didn’t evolve, they gave me whiplash, ricocheting from one emotion to the other and back again. The author made everything a little too much, each scene a bit too intense, without a recognizable growth or change. I feel like the story has so much potential but it could have been edited to help it progress more smoothly. That said, even though I considered not finishing the story (after yet another eye roll), I did finish it and will try the sequel. I DID like the characters, there were some nice sexy bits, the story line was fun, fluffy, maybe the next story will be better. If I find myself rolling eyes though, I won’t finish it... 3 stars only b/c I can’t give 2.5 and I rounded up since I finished...

2.0 out of 5 stars DNF at 66%
DNF at 66% I can hinestly say the only person I liked in this book was Sebastian. At first I thought Jace was being awfully cruel about judging Callahan. I didn't understand why he was so upset when he knew from the get go he was a pretend boyfriend, plus Callahan did ask him several times to see him after. I didn't mind Callahan until he was a selfish jerk when Sebastian was going thru an incredibly hard time in his life and Callahan was all me, me, me.
I had to stop at 66% cause I couldn't see much more happening in the story and at that point I didn't really care for either MC.
