Asymmetry: A Fate of the Fallen Standalone Kindle Edition
Until three weeks ago, Dorian was a human -- one of those subjugated by the supernatural beings who now rule the world. He spent ten years struggling to survive, but now that he's been turned, he needs to learn how to live. Problem is, there's a lot to learn but not much time to learn it in. Loneliness is far from the only problem, but it seems to be the most pressing.
Supernatural or not, Emery doesn't have a fancy family name to back up his standing in society. The most memorable thing about him is his red hair, not his magic, and he's had to throw in with those whose price for protection isn't low. Even though he'd never admit he's lonely, he's fascinated enough by his run-in with a brand-new vampire to not dismiss him despite the tensions between their races.
Can they cure their loneliness with one another, or will society prevent them from doing anything but wonder what might have been?
Asymmetry is approximately 11k words long. Asymmetry and the rest of the Fate of the Fallen books can all be read separately from each other.

About the author

R. Phoenix (code name: Raissa) has an unhealthy fascination with contrasts: light and dark, humor and pain, heroes and villains, order and chaos. She believes love can corrupt, power can redeem and that the best of intentions can cast shadows while the worst can create light. She agrees with those who say that the truth is best told through fiction — even though fiction has to make sense while reality can be utterly baffling.
Her dark paranormal books explore a world where humanity has become prey, subjugated by “supes” — vampires, werewolves, and witches — who have seized control. They range from romance to dark erotica to horror and everything in between, exploring different aspects of the Fate of the Fallen universe. She’s even published something she calls “playful dark erotica.”
Her tendency to explore dark topics isn’t limited to a supernatural world. Her contemporary romance, Too Close, deals with the difficult topic of domestic violence. She is passionate about the need for greater awareness and understanding of an issue that’s often misunderstood.
She loves chatting with readers, though she often awkwardly rambles. No matter how much she tries to keep her bad and often perverted sense of humor in check, it seems to escape at the most inconvenient moments. (Thanks, universe.) Feel free to friend Raissa on Facebook and chat or send her an email!

- Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2018This was a lovely introduction to the series. The characters are endearing, and there's just enough hinted at the nature of this topsy-turvy world that I am definitely going to read more. The writing is solid, with great pacing and a casual sensibility that nevertheless drives and supports the plot. I am intrigued to read the rest of the stories that have been written about this world. There's obviously so much more going on there. It's nice that my introduction was this sweet little odd couple romance.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 18, 2020All in all this story was rather sweet, just going to show vampires and witches can have a dorky time trying to connect with others. Everyone wants a connection Everyone wants love. Or sex if love isn't available. I really enjoyed this novelist.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 24, 2018A Fate of the Fallen Novella - And a total tease for us in the form of a short book. I NEED MORE.. *grabby hands*
This book was really adorably, cute, even though I’m not quite sure anyone else will see it that way…
I just really loved these characters so much. I found myself smiling at all of their interactions. In a world where they are really supposed to be enemies at the least, and fully hate each other at the most, how do a Witch and a Vampire form such and instant connection and bond like they do. They are both such cute characters, I could read more of their story for hours on end and not get sick of either of them.
Dorian, is a newly made Vampire trying to figure out his place in his new life, while trying not to eat everyone in sight. Emery the (Kind-of) Witch with very limited powers doesn’t know why he is so intrigued and drawn to Dorian after their first encounter. But he ends up following Dorian to see why they have the instant connection they do. Gawwwdd... This book was great. Seriously, everyone should read it. And while you’re at it… Get it in Audio too.
Audio – Kenneth did a great job making me fall in love with these characters even more than I already did. He totally gave us the perfect narration and voices to make these characters and their personality traits come across completely in this narration. I loved every minute of this one, and could listen to it over and over again.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 20, 2018A short and sweet story about a witch and a vampire.
Emery, the red head and sometimes sarcastic witch meets Dorian, the baby vampire who is so sweet. Shouldn't work, isn't suppose to because witches and vamps don't mix after the takeover. Their story made my smile because again, the author who gives twisted and dark a whole new meaning wrote such a sweet story. Elias, a character from her Fate of the Fallen series, would be appalled. I do hope they pop up in future books, as well as Dorian's sire, Anson.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 24, 2021A quick hour read. Alt-world, almost dystopian, where supernaturals rule, albeit with conflict between the factions. Here, however, the fledgling vampire Dorian meets up with Emery, a witchling. They pussyfoot around the rules and find that something.
Phoenix has managed to build a world quickly (yes, this is a standalone in a series) and convey the protagonists sufficiently to merit strong reader interest. Really nice quick read.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2018As the author clearly stated, this book is NOT indicative of the Fate of the Fallen world. That world is dark but fascinating. This story was adorably fluffy. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and I usually am not impressed with fluffy. I actually want to know more about this couple. There were some surprising twists that I wasn't expecting, but was quite happy to find them. Now I feel the need to re-read the rest of the series and see if I can recognize the characters or where they fit in the timeline.
I would definitely recommend this story as an introduction to the series, with a strong caution of "they are not all fluffy". The series depicts a robust world, and there's quite a bit of colorful dialogue throughout even the darkest times to make them enjoyable and not so traumatizing.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 24, 2018This book takes place in a dystopian type of world where the supernaturals have taken over, and humans are reduced to living in slums. Emery (witch) and Dorian (fledgling vampire) were actually so cute together, and with each other they found a spot of contentment while living in this world. I enjoyed this little story, and it was nicely written, held my attention, especially since I wanted to know how these two would relate to each other (outside of curiosity). Totally sweet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Dorian, Emery & Anson
Fledgling vampire, Dorian, is naive to the world of supernaturals. His sire, Anson, guiding him on a loose leash as such.
Emery, a young witchling, at least understands the social barriers between the species. Despite his distaste, he seeks the ecstasy promised by a vampire bite.
This is a sweeter novella in the Fate Of The Fallen universe. Paranormal, mm.

3.0 out of 5 stars I like it but...
it is very unrealistic.

5.0 out of 5 stars A vampire, Witch Short story. Great Coffee break read.
Dorian a Three-week-old vampire male mistakes a young witch for a human and tries to feed.
Emery the young witch falls quickly for the vampire who mistaken him for his dinner. Eager to learn more about the vampire follows him home. Where he offers himself to help Dorian feed, he feels strangely about him even though its obvious there is mistrust and hate between Vampires and witches.
As much as this was a short I was sort of hoping the Author was testing the waters on this story and would bring out a full length of these two, so much could come from a story like this I loved it and I’m not normally into shorts like this.
It fuelled the vampire obsession I seem to have these days along with a mm favourite.
