I found book two even more enjoyable than the first. Some parents don’t deserve to be parents and Audrey’s father is one of them. What an awful man. Glad Audrey found her happiness with Reid.

I eagerly awaited the evening when I could sit and read this book. The story has many angles, and I wondered what was going to happen next. I was often surprised. The story is well woven with its share of guessing and intrigue. I found it a wonderful cozy read.

I found book two in the Oregon Sky Series to be very enjoyable, and it will read well as a standalone. It does have many of the people that are introduced in book one, Phoebe’s Promise. Audrey Thomsen lost her childhood sweetheart and husband, Pete, during the wagon train trek to Oregon to Cholera but continued on the journey, selling her wagon and staying with Phoebe and Grace. She left Kentucky because her father was trying to force a marriage to a man he made a contract with, Frank Hillman.

Widower, Reid Wallace cannot get past his wife’s death during childbirth, even though he has a precious daughter, Sophia, and he needs a wife to help him to mother her and take care of the home. For Audrey to stay in Oregon, a mutual agreement is made with Reid that they will marry in name only, and it will be a marriage of convenience. Audrey’s father is furious and determined that he will take her back to Kentucky, and she will be forced to honor his contract with Frank. To him, she is no more than a pawn for him to gain status and her feelings do not matter.

The plot of the story is full of memories, angst, emotions and harrowing adventures of life and death. To what lengths will a person go to have their way? The dialog and thoughts of both Reid and Audrey are emotional as they try to deal with their situation and question their betrayal to their respected late spouses. This is a clean romance with lots of emotional baggage, memories, and new beginnings. Two people must say goodbye to their former lives and mates and open their hearts to the future and happiness. “I was meant to find you, so you could save me.” The story does not end on a cliffhanger, but one can see several promising future stories in this series.

Another outstanding book written by Kay P. Dawson!! I loved the first book in this series about traveling to Oregon, and I was definitely looking forward to following the main characters. When I started this particular book, I was overjoyed reading about one of my favorite ladies from book one, Audrey. Audrey caught my attention in the first book because she was a newlywed that was escaping from a father that was "selling" her for his own needs. Sadly, her new husband died shortly after the trip to Oregon began. Audrey was strong enough to continue the trek on her own and begin her life as a widow. This book also showed what a strong, but loving, man can be like after losing his own wife in childbirth. Can this couple join together to make a long, happy marriage; or can a father, with a signed contract to a wealthy man, continue to control his daughter's life when the two men arrive in the small Oregon community? Can a rich girl really love being a farmer's wife? How far will a step-mother go to save the lives of her new toddler daughter and husband from a deranged man that has decided he is in control and only his desires matter? Once started, I could not stop reading this book! I fell in love with all the characters and am definitely looking forward to more great books by this terrific author. I highly recommend this book, and this series, for all age groups.

What a sweet historical romance! No sex, only a smattering of cussing, and the plot was interesting. The characters were believable and likable. The twists in the story were also well done. If you’re looking for a sweet historical romance without graphic scenes, this could be a good book for you.

It was a good book, kept my interest til the end. It had a good story line and just the perfect length to read it in a day.

I enjoyed this story. It has some sad moments but some very happy moments too. Their love blossomed slowly and the ending is very touching. I liked how they gave each other space to grieve but also to cherish the memories of their respective spouse's. I would have rated it higher but there was an incident where the author used Lord (as in God) as an expletive. That makes me uncomfortable. There are so many other words authors could use. It spoils good writing imo.
