What other people are saying...
"Angel Rosen’s debut poetry book, Aurelia (2020), is a stunning collection of contemplations on gender, sexuality, mental illness, and seeking space to call home - a difficult task when one feels too large to fit in. With 35 pieces spanning nearly 60 pages, each poem serves as a piece of Rosen’s life and dreams and meditations made tangible, tinged with the wavering edges of the surreal."
- Fox Auslander
"Aurelia is honest, raw, and powerful. It grabs you by the shoulders, shakes you, and moves you in the best way."
- A. H.
"Angel Rosen's first book sears into your consciousness with the singular precision usually reserved for the business end of a sniper's blast. Daring, swift, and always beautiful, she uses her words like tools to carefully uncover bold truths, driving the human condition into the light."
- H.S.
"Angel Rosen’s work is some of the most gripping poetry I have ever read. Some of the most heartfelt work I have ever read, Aurelia was a beautiful debut."

- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2022Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseIt took me longer than I expected to finish this collection — not because it was too long, but because each poem left me oddly satiated to the extent that I had to give them all adequate time to sit and seep into my permanence before successfully moving forward.
Grotesque, gritty, genuine, gothic, occult, & sapphic, the author writes from a heart that is best described as divine, feminine, and Victorian. Each line oozes on out of the pages and makes the reader’s mouth taste like sweet fruit, copper, & toxic kisses. The poems in this collection don’t require that additional adornment of visible overthinking, over-pruning, & over-polishing to the point of synthetic non-recognition. Rather, they are spared of that, and therefore at their most gorgeous & gruesome as they are — free-flowing, airy, & accountable to effortless, natural movement.
Even in achieving so much finesse, Aurelia does not sacrifice its rawness, darkness, bitter sweetness, wholeness, or fullness. Moreover, the lines in each poem (the poems — which vary in form, style, & length throughout the collection), while deeply poetic, lyrical, rhythmic, complex, strategic, skillfully fashioned, and flawlessly created/cultivated, are written such that poetry lovers of all levels can connect with the work in a way that invades, infiltrates, & inspires them exactly how all great writing should — exactly the way Aurelia already does.
Tender, turbulent, and tragic, Aurelia is immaculate.

I don't know how Angel Rosen does it, but she does it. This girl blows me away. Her lines are simply amazing, there's far too many to quote here, as I find something that makes my jaw drop in awe in every poem. I simply cannot get enough of her work.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2020Format: PaperbackVerified PurchaseThe poetry that Angel has written in her book brings me to the edge of my seat.
I feel so loved in her lost words.. Protected by the sheer enormity that somewhere someone is putting to life things I feel but haven't expressed.
To read the words that fill the pages that danced in her beautiful mind encourages me to continue my writing. Beauty at its finest. I will forever recommend Aurelia to anyone and everyone when their minds need someone to hold them dear with words and feelings alone.
Thank you, Angel, for writing an amazing book with amazing poetry that brings fire back to my soul.
You are amazing. Do not give up on these writings. Please. <3
