A Very Grumpy Christmas (Arcadian Falls Christmas Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,864 ratings

My neighbor is a Grinch.

Since I run the Christmas Emporium and sometimes moonlight as an elf, that's kind of a problem for me.

No surprise, though. When I brought over cookies to welcome him to the neighborhood this summer, he slammed the door in my face.

Until he brings his kid to visit Santa one of the days I'm working as an elf, and I realize there are key parts of their story I'm missing ...
  • The little girl is his much younger sister, not his daughter.
  • He's her guardian since their parents died in a tragic accident.

Now all of his handsome, broody glares make so much more sense. As one of Santa's elves, I make it my mission to make this Christmas as special for them as possible. Which somehow includes trespassing on his property to hang Christmas lights and braiding the little girl's hair regularly.

Despite his glares and grumpiness, I discover the soft underbelly of the beast. Will this Grinch's heart grow three sizes as well? And if it does, will it have room for me?

A Very Grumpy Christmas is a standalone, small town, neighbors to lovers romance featuring a grumpy single dad and the sunshiny neighbor who's determined to make his Christmas better. Full of heat and heart with an HEA guaranteed!

A Very Grumpy (but so good) Christmas

A Very Grumpy (but so good) Christmas
This was my first read from Jerica, and I can definitely say, I loved it. 4.5 stars! This book is an emotionally packed, steamy rom-com. The grumpy neighbor and the sunshiny Christmas elf. Jerica writes these two with chemistry off the chart, witty banter, vulnerable moments and the sweetest little 6 year old girl. This book hits you straight in the feels with heavy themes dealing with grief and parental loss, while learning to find a balance of life after loss and overcoming obstacles to find your way through the fog back to something, or someone, that brings you joy. He's grief stricken from the sudden loss of his parents six months prior, which thrust him in to pseudo-parenthood by becoming his 6 year old little sister's guardian. She's sassy and full of Christmas cheer and wants nothing more to make the sad little girl next door have the best Christmas she can given it's the first Christmas without her parents. Sarah and Shane decide to have a Christmas, no-strings attached fling. As they explore their sizzling chemistry and mutual attraction, will Shane let Sarah in? Or will he push her away to protect his already tattered heart.

Great to read. The character s are funny and engaging. Story was a new and incredible tale. Great book be sure to read

This is my first book by Jerica Macmillan as the title and storyline caught my attention. I try and read as many holiday romances as possible in December, and was pleasantly surprised by this little gem. I love when people meet by chance and these two polar opposites aren’t very neighborly at first especially since he moved in right next-door and wants nothing to do with being social.

Sarah is such a kind soul and is filled with the Christmas spirit. She runs her family business, a Christmas Emporium and is smart, giving, and such fun to be around. She meets Shane and Sophie officially as they were in her store visiting Santa and Sarah was a cheery elf.

Shane’s parents died leaving him to raise his six-year-old sister on his own. I could personally relate because my father and his three siblings were all in their 20’s when their baby sister was born. Grandma thought she was going through menopause and nope, it was baby number five.

There are many layers to our hero and I loved watching their friendship, trust, and physical relationship grow day by day. This story is often sad and heartbreaking, but also hopeful and filled with many joyous moments and the theme to appreciate the past, the here and now, and that it’s ok to look forward to the future. I just loved their journey together, meeting his siblings, and especially her family who are so warm and welcoming.

I admired Shane from the beginning trying to do right by his sister and being both a dad and big brother. Sophie was so positive and I loved how she just wouldn’t take no for an answer and injected herself into their lives. Sophie just adored her and grumpy Shane slowly succumbed to her charms and because of her kind heart and spirit, began to live life again. And readers will appreciate the bonus epilogue which was my favorite part!

Good story about a young man who became a parent overnight to his sister. He doesn’t believe he’s able to have a relationship and be a parent at the same time until a sassy little elf comes into their lives

Super cute book. It had me laughing crying and hot & bothered. Their attraction had a rocky start but once they gave in, man did it get heated.

After losing his parents in a car accident, Shane assumes guardianship of his 6 year old sister. Learning how to navigate her loss, his loss and the unexpected father role has him grumpy.

Enter in Sarah the town elf. Her family owns and she runs the Christmas Emporium as well as run the Christmas Fest every year. She is also Shane and Sophie's neighbor.

After hearing Sophie's heart felt wish to Santa, Sophie is determined to make this first Holiday without her parents a happy one, whether Shane wants her help or not.

So I’m pretty judgmental, let’s get that out of the way, and I read ALOT! Like at least 1 book a day, not an exaggeration! Which makes me pretty picky-I needed a feel good book because this was the first Christmas without my father, and this story was perfect! Like my title-despite the endless back & forth by Shane, the author really got it right!!! The grief, the guilt of “living” not just surviving! I loved that she portrayed the child so realistically-kids can be little a-holes, add grief & pain, yeah they can be out of control monsters, and she didn’t shy away from that. She also gave good advice in a non-preachy way, therapy, parenting books & classes, bad days & good days, feeling the feels. Add in some very hot sexy time-a winner! 4 stars because the whiplash was still annoying!

I admit it: There was a point in this book where I couldn't help but shed a few tears! There's a fair bit of angst, but don't let that dissuade you from reading this holiday romance. Wit and humor are very much present as well. I loved seeing Shane slowly let his guard down, and Sophie relishing in being with her three older siblings made my heart squeeze in my chest. Having Sarah in their lives was like a necessary spark for the twosome. Speaking of Sarah, she's now one of my favorite female main characters this year. She was a good person with a giving spirit. With a touching story and such wonderful characters, A Very Grumpy Christmas is a five-starred read.

I loved this book had me tearing up at times as well as laughing. My only gripe was the way the ending kinda jumped missing out on the really important part being a conversation between the two adults and the little girl for that it kinda disappointed me that that was glossed over.
